Only the Two of Them
"How am I able to get close?" Lucy Luan asked curiously. "It's difficult, but I can approach it."
Jumin Jing felt embarrassed and, after thinking for a while, said, "Maybe it's because you're his biological sister and share the same bloodline. That barrier doesn't reject you as much."
Nowadays, the Three Realms and Ten Wilds are enjoying a peaceful era.
Most of the Demon Beasts that mutated during the Demon Clan invasion have already died off.
Very few have survived for two hundred thousand years or managed to reproduce.
So, this new generation doesn’t really understand demonic energy all that well.
Lucy herself wasn’t sure if it was because she was Ryan Lu’s biological sister that she could break through the barrier and approach that mass of demonic energy.
"Let me try too," Sean Shaw said at that moment.
So, they swapped him in next.
His energy was different from everyone else's.
A stream of red energy invaded Ryan Lu’s body, and after more than half an hour, a wisp of black qi was forced out.
It wasn’t much, but it was way more than the tiny bit Lucy had managed to extract.
"Whoa, the Fifth Prince can do it too!" Ryan Lu exclaimed in surprise. "Looks like it’s not just a bloodline thing."
"Then what is it? Why can only those two pull out the demonic energy?" Yin Shu asked, confused.
"Maybe it’s just because they’re stronger," Harvey Quinn suggested.
Sean withdrew his power, sweat beading on his forehead. He said, "I can pull out a bit, but it’s less than a tenth. If I keep going, I’ll be totally spent."
"Ahhh!" Ryan Lu was on the verge of tears. "What do I do? I don’t want to turn into a demonic qilin!"
"Don’t panic yet," Sean said. "I’ll summon my father, His Majesty. Maybe he can clear the demonic energy right away."
"Thank you so much, Fifth Prince!" Ryan Lu’s opinion of him shot up instantly.
Sean pulled out a Messenger Charm and explained the situation to the Celestial Emperor, asking him to come over.
The Celestial Emperor arrived quickly.
He was the most powerful god in existence, so everyone assumed he could extract the demonic energy in no time.
However, after channeling his power, he frowned and said, "This mass of demonic energy is really tricky. The stronger the attack, the stronger it gets. If I force my way through, I’ll end up hurting Ryan."
"Huh? You mean, even you can’t pull it out?" Ryan Lu was nearly in tears.
"Mm," the Celestial Emperor replied.
"Then... how come my sister and the Fifth Prince can do it?" Ryan Lu asked.
The Celestial Emperor glanced at them and said, "As for Sean, thanks to his mother, his Divine Power mixes in a type of energy that’s different from spiritual power. Maybe that’s the key to breaking the barrier."
"What about my sister?" Ryan Lu asked.
"She..." The Celestial Emperor studied Lucy thoughtfully. "Maybe it’s just because she’s your sister!"
So it really was about bloodline after all.
Lucy said, "Second Brother, looks like we can’t get it all out right away. But don’t panic—we’ll pull out a little every day, and in ten days or so, you’ll be clean."
"It’s only been a few days, and I’ve already forgotten a third of what I learned about military strategy. In ten days, will I forget everything? Will I turn into an idiot?"
"You won’t!" Lucy said. "I’ll give you a special medicine to fumigate you. It’ll greatly reduce the damage from the demonic energy."
"Oh..." Ryan Lu looked pitifully at the Celestial Emperor. "Your Majesty, can you go easy on me for this Assessment? I don’t think I’ll pass..."
The Celestial Emperor laughed, "Alright, you can skip this round."
"Your Majesty, you’re the best!" Ryan Lu grabbed his hand. "You’re the greatest Celestial Emperor ever!"
The Celestial Emperor said, "Once you recover, you’ll have a make-up exam."
