Rainie Cheng was most worried that something would happen to Shawn Young. She immediately dashed inside, and as she turned the corner at the end of the corridor, she found a passage leading down to the basement. "Ah—" At that moment, a piercing shriek echoed from the basement level.
Rainie’s heart raced. Without hesitation, she rushed downstairs, passing through an open iron gate. It turned out to be a detention cell in the basement, meant for holding suspects. As soon as Rainie burst through the door outside the cell, she was hit by a nauseating stench. Pushing open the door, she saw Shawn Young standing there, his expression solemn as he stared at the air at the end of the corridor.
There, floating in midair, was a woman in white with loose, disheveled hair. For some reason, the fluorescent lights above flickered wildly, casting shifting shadows on her body. Her face was deathly pale, lips tinged black and purple—a truly terrifying sight. Wisps of black mist swirled around her, and the stench of long-rotted corpse wafted from her body. There was no doubt—she was a White-Clad Ghost!
"Ah! What a terrifying ghost—" Rainie Cheng screamed loudly. Even though she was experienced, seeing a female ghost at such close range made her cry out in fear.
The floating woman in white trembled when she heard Rainie scream—"Whoosh—" In a flash, she lunged at Rainie with impossible speed. But Shawn Young was even faster. His right hand formed a sword gesture, tracing an arc in the air. A burst of golden light appeared, blocking Rainie and forming a protective barrier. The White-Clad Ghost crashed into the golden barrier—"Bang!"—and was sent flying, unable to break through. She let out another piercing shriek!
Just then, footsteps sounded outside—it was Sergeant Mandy Chung, Sergeant Louis Liu, and the other officers trying to rush in. "Heh—heh—heh—" The White-Clad Ghost let out a chilling laugh, clearly ready to act if anyone entered!
Shawn Young quickly turned to the still-shaken Rainie Cheng and said, "Rainie, go block the door. Make sure nobody comes in, or they might get possessed by this ghost—that would be a real mess!"
"Oh—okay—" Rainie replied, immediately backing out and saying a few words to the officers outside. The group of police hurriedly retreated—no one wanted to risk getting possessed!
"Hmph—you may have some ghostly power, no wonder you’re causing trouble here. But your Taoist skills aren’t enough to impress me. If you try anything else, I’ll hit you with a Taoist Thunder Palm and blast your soul to pieces—never to reincarnate!" As soon as the others left, Shawn Young sternly threatened the White-Clad Ghost.
The White-Clad Ghost trembled at his words, clearly aware that Shawn Young had the power to back up his threat. She dared not move recklessly, hovering in midair with a sinister glint in her eyes.
"Now tell me, why are you doing all this?" Shawn Young asked her directly.
"Revenge—I want revenge—" the White-Clad Ghost suddenly cried out, her voice filled with anguish and sorrow.
"Revenge?" Shawn Young was taken aback, then replied coldly, "Miss, you have some ghostly power and your spirit lingers here, which means you must have suffered great injustice to gather such intense resentment. But every grievance has its cause, every debt its owner—humans and ghosts belong to different realms. If you want revenge, go after your enemy, not haunt this place and disturb the living!"
"I don't want to do this either. After I was murdered, I tried to send a warning through dreams and report it to the police. But as soon as I entered this station, someone cast a spell to trap my soul here. I can't leave, nor can I enter the cycle of reincarnation! With no other choice, I had to resort to this method to attract someone capable of helping me!" the White-Clad Ghost said, her voice trembling.
"Oh—so you mean someone deliberately trapped you here with a spell?" Shawn Young asked quickly.
"Yes—I don't know who did it, but I know there are other vengeful spirits like me in different places, all controlled by that person!" the White-Clad Ghost suddenly said.
"What—there are other vengeful ghosts too? This is serious! What does that person want?!" Shawn Young exclaimed, realizing the situation was more complicated than he thought.
"I don’t know either. The person who cast the spell channels massive resentment into our souls, making us violent and fierce. He also has a terrifying method—he binds our souls and tortures us with Infernal Soulfire, causing unbearable pain and fear. The agony of having your soul burned is worse than death! That’s why we’re under his control!" the White-Clad Ghost said, her voice trembling.
"Using Necromancer’s Binding to command fierce ghosts! Someone with that kind of skill is no ordinary person. This must be a master of dark Taoist magic!" Shawn Young exclaimed.
"That person can also use a magic array to channel all the dark energy in the area into me. He wants to turn me into his Possessed Spirit Servant!" the White-Clad Ghost said.
"Uh—Possessed Spirit Servant, that's a forbidden ritual from the Maoshan Order! If you’re turned into one, you’ll become his tool for harming people forever!" Shawn Young exclaimed.
"Exactly—so I refuse to give in. I’d rather risk being destroyed than let him win. Whenever I get the chance, I haunt the police here, hoping they’ll find someone powerful enough to help me! Sir, you’re the most capable person I’ve met—please help me!" the White-Clad Ghost pleaded with Shawn Young.
"Alright, your situation is complicated. Tell me everything that happened to you, so I can figure out how to help!" Shawn Young said to her.
"My name is Wendy Lam. Two months ago, one night after I went out, I was attacked near Tsuen Wan Dingjiu Village. Someone put a bag over my head, tied up my hands and feet, and then raped me. Afterward, afraid of being caught, he hung me from a tree with a rope and killed me. My body was stuffed into a sack with stones and thrown into a pond in the woods!" The White-Clad Ghost explained, clearly upset as she revealed the cause of her death.
"Oh—so you’re the missing girl Wendy Lam! No wonder the police couldn’t find you—you were murdered!" Shawn Young realized.
"Sir—he raped and murdered me, but he kept my face covered the whole time, so I still don’t know who killed me. I died with such injustice—please, you have to help me!" The White-Clad Ghost was indeed the long-missing Wendy Lam.
"Alright, I’ll have the police find your body first. Then I’ll figure out who your killer is. I’ll also draw your soul into my body for safekeeping—though I can’t bring you back to life. My goal is to break the spell controlling you, so you can enter the cycle of reincarnation and be reborn." Shawn Young nodded to her.
"Thank you, sir—but please hurry! At night, the one controlling me floods my soul with dark energy, making me violent and desperate to hurt people! He forces me to enter the Red Cross Hospital across from the station, spreading evil energy that drives patients mad and causes them to die in agony—creating even more vengeful spirits!" Wendy Lam said.
