Chapter 403: You Are Not Welcome

A shadow flickered—Three-Eyed Shadow Wolf. Its gaze was locked onto the Primordial Deity Soul Fragment on the ground. It let out two excited howls, circling the fragment as if it had discovered a new continent. After a triumphant wolf cry, it eventually lay down beside the fragment, stretching out its little paw, seemingly wanting to grab it, but never actually touching it...

There were originally two Primordial Deity Soul Fragments, both belonging to the same ancient god. Over the past few days, they had completely fused together—and undergone many changes.

If Leon hadn’t left, he would have been astonished to discover a strange rune on the Primordial Deity Soul Fragment. Its oddness defied description... It was like seeing something, yet never being able to remember what it looked like!

Without a doubt, this rune was even harder to decipher than those inscribed in the Book of Death.

The divine script on Three-Eyed Shadow Wolf’s forehead also began to change, subtly resembling the strange rune on the Primordial Deity Soul Fragment...

In the days that followed, Leon remained at the Apocalypse Mercenary Company’s camp. The three major mercenary groups continued to push deeper into the Turin Mountains, and Leon gradually sensed that the magical beasts they encountered were growing stronger...

Especially not long ago, when they encountered more than twenty Amethyst Demon Apes, each one a formidable Level 25 beast. If it hadn’t been for the intervention of Title Magus-level experts, the three mercenary companies would have suffered devastating losses.

After the night of the wyvern attack several days ago, the relationships among the three mercenary companies became more complicated. Previously, they would argue endlessly over where to set up camp, and their campsites formed a triangle, each group keeping their distance—clearly wary of one another.

Now, the deputy leaders of the three mercenary companies often gathered together, apparently to discuss something. Their interactions were no longer as tense as before; though they still quarreled occasionally, relations had noticeably eased.

Leon noticed all these changes. He knew that after surviving the wyvern attack, the mercenaries must have realized just how perilous the Turin Mountains truly were. Unless the three companies joined forces, they’d be in grave danger...

At this moment, inside a tent...

"Chief Captain Anley..."

Across from Orson sat a thin, middle-aged man. Even with Orson’s usual arrogance, he didn’t dare show it in front of this man—instead, he appeared almost humble.

Only Orson knew the reason why...

This middle-aged man was no ordinary figure. In his forties, he had already reached the rank of Level 9 Grand Swordmaster and commanded five elite squads within the Apocalypse Mercenary Company. Chief Captain was his official title.

Within the Apocalypse Mercenary Company, aside from the leader and vice-captain, Chief Captain Anley held the highest authority.

Orson simply couldn’t muster any arrogance before Chief Captain Anley!

"Chief Captain Anley, there’s something I must tell you." Orson glanced at Anley’s expression, his emotions rising. "Some time ago, I kindly rescued a guy named Matthew Merlin on the edge of the Doomscar. You have no idea—he’s a complete bastard! Not only is he insatiably greedy, he’s also cowardly, despicable, and shameless!"

Do you remember the night our camp was attacked by the wyvern? Yes, that night—Matthew Merlin didn’t help fight the wyvern at all. Instead, he snuck off to steal our Apocalypse Mercenary Company’s spoils! Chief Captain Anley, tell me, is someone like that really worth protecting? I say we need to drive him out!
