Dungeon Confrontation
Alexander Hayes stared expressionlessly at Sophie White lying on the ground.
Sophie White was in agony and panic, sobbing uncontrollably. "Alex, please take me away! I can't stay in this hellhole any longer! That cruel woman, Lily, had my limbs crushed, my tendons severed—I'm in so much pain! Alex, save me! In three days, Lily will hand me over to those villagers for execution. I don't want to die! Alex, please, take me away!"
Alexander Hayes looked at Sophie White and finally sighed. "Sophie, why did you do such a thing..."
Sophie White sobbed so hard she could barely breathe. "I was wrong, Alex, I know I was wrong! I only did it because I was confused for a moment—I really know I was wrong! Please take me away, Alex. My father entrusted me to you before he died, and you promised him you'd take care of me for life. You're a true hero—you can't break your word!"
Seeing Sophie White cry like that, Alexander Hayes sighed and took out a bunch of keys from his waist.
These were the keys Alexander Hayes got from the jailer.
When Sophie White saw Alexander Hayes holding the keys, she was overjoyed. She glared at Sean Hayes and shouted, "See that? Go back and tell your master that Alex is rescuing me! She wants to kill me? No way! With Alex here, I'm not afraid of anything!"
Sean Hayes, looking anxious, blocked the cell door and said to Alexander Hayes, "Your Highness, I'm here on Princess Consort's orders to guard Sophie White. No one is allowed to take her away! Please, Your Highness, don't make things difficult for me!"
Sophie White was already growing desperate. "You, Lily Evans's lackey—how dare you block His Highness? You must have a death wish! I've said it before, the bond between Alexander and me is not something outsiders can interfere with! Lackey, get out of the way, and go back to tell Lily Evans that Alexander came to the dungeon himself to carry me out!"
Sean Hayes glanced at Sophie White—sure enough, the moment she realized she wouldn't die, her arrogant persona returned in full force.
Sean Hayes was frantic, blocking the entrance and refusing to let Alexander Hayes open the door. He pleaded, "Your Highness, Sophie White killed so many innocent children—her crimes are unforgivable! Today, Princess Consort Lily declared her sentence in front of everyone; the execution will be carried out in three days. If you take her away now, how will Princess Consort Lily answer to the crowd? Your Highness, you mustn't! If you really let personal feelings sway you and take Sophie White away, won't that hurt your relationship with Princess Consort Lily?"
Alexander Hayes stared at Sean Hayes with a blank expression, the key in his hand never wavering.
Sean Hayes stubbornly blocked the way, refusing to step aside. "Your Highness, I am guarding Sophie White under Princess Consort Lily's orders. Today, if you want to take Sophie White away, you'll have to step over my dead body—otherwise, I will not yield!"
Sophie White grew anxious seeing Sean Hayes's stubbornness and snapped, "You really don't know what's good for you! Have you forgotten whose servant you are? What kind of spell did Lily Evans put on you to make you defy Alexander for her! Alexander, deal with this nuisance and take me out of here. My whole body hurts, you need to find a doctor to treat me and take care of me. This damned dungeon is no place for people; I can't stand another moment in here!"
Sean Hayes paid no attention to Sophie White's curses, stubbornly blocking Alexander Hayes's way. If Alexander tried to force his way in, Sean looked ready to fight him to the death.
Alexander Hayes looked at Sean Hayes's resolute face, then suddenly reached out and patted him on the shoulder. "Sean, you used to be one of my men, but later Princess Consort Lily asked for you and Peony. Your loyalty to her is unwavering—even daring to block me... Tsk, you really are something."
