Another One Ruined?

Meanwhile, the Village Chief did his best to persuade Helen Parker to take May Parker home first, promising that he would make sure May Parker received justice.

After a long night of trouble, the Village Chief was feeling frustrated. He made his way home in the dark, and as soon as he entered, he saw the lights were on.

"Old man, you're finally back! We've got visitors again. They just arrived," Mrs. Zhou, the Village Chief's wife, greeted him at the door.

"What, more people?" The Village Chief was stunned. What was going on tonight—why were so many people showing up at his house in the middle of the night?

The Village Chief walked into the house and saw Mrs. Thompson and Tofu Beauty sitting in the main room. Tofu Beauty kept her head down, dabbing at her tears with a handkerchief. As soon as Mrs. Thompson saw the Village Chief, she rushed over, wailing, "Village Chief, please stand up for my cousin! She may be a widow, but that doesn't mean people can bully her!"

The Village Chief felt a headache coming on as soon as he saw Mrs. Thompson. "Just tell me—what's going on? It's the middle of the night and you won't let me sleep!"

Mrs. Thompson shot a glance at Tofu Beauty, then said to the Village Chief, "Village Chief, tonight my cousin was violated!"

"What!?" The Village Chief's eyes widened like copper bells. Something was seriously wrong tonight—why were the women in the village all getting attacked?

Mrs. Thompson cried, "It's that damned beast! He couldn't keep his hands off my cousin's beauty! Tonight, just after sunset, he snuck into her room... My cousin is timid—she was so scared she nearly lost her soul, and in her confusion, she was taken advantage of. As soon as that beast left, my cousin came to me, and now we've come to you, Village Chief, for justice!"

"Huh? Who is that beast!?" The Village Chief rubbed his forehead, feeling utterly exasperated.

"That beast is none other than Lucky, Lily Evans's husband!" Mrs. Thompson cried.

"What!? Say that again, and make it clear!" The Village Chief exchanged a look with Mrs. Zhou. What was going on? Why was Lucky being accused again?

Tofu Beauty dabbed at her tears, looking pitiful. "Village Chief, I may be a widow, but that doesn't mean people can bully me. The other day, I rode into town on Lucky's cart, and he took a fancy to me. Tonight, just after sunset, before it was fully dark, he came into my room and tormented me for half the night before leaving. He promised to take me as his concubine. Village Chief, you must stand up for me!"

The Village Chief suddenly felt his mind clear. Tofu Beauty claimed Lucky entered her room before dark and only just left, while May Parker said Lucky snuck into her room in the middle of the night.

Lucky couldn't possibly be in two places at once. The timing just didn't add up between Tofu Beauty and May Parker's stories.

That meant at least one of them was lying and trying to smear Lucky—or maybe both of them were!

The Village Chief began to form a plan, his gaze toward Tofu Beauty and Mrs. Thompson turning cool and appraising.

Mrs. Thompson and Tofu Beauty were confused, exchanging glances. Why was the Village Chief so indifferent?

"Village Chief, you can't just ignore me! Why don't we go to Lily Evans's house right now and confront Lucky face-to-face?" Tofu Beauty had already found out that Lucky was out hunting in the mountains and not at home.

The Village Chief lit a cigarette, sat down, and took a couple of puffs. He gave Tofu Beauty and Mrs. Thompson a meaningful look. "Alright, I understand. I'll make sure you get an explanation."

"But—but we haven't gone to Lucky's house yet," Tofu Beauty blurted out, dumbfounded. Why wasn't the Village Chief investigating? Was it because she was a woman married out from Clearwater Village, and now he didn't want to bother with her?

The Village Chief let out a cold laugh. "Go where? I'm not blind! You two go home and wait for news, alright?"
