Even subordinates had to be searched—was Frank Lu simply afraid of death, or was he deliberately trying to embarrass Landon Lu?
He knocked and entered.
Frank Lu was sitting behind his desk, reading documents.
"Wait a moment. Let me finish these files, then I'll talk to you," Frank Lu smiled at Landon, sounding polite enough.
Landon replied, "Please, Minister, take your time."
But inwardly, Landon sneered. Frank Lu was clearly trying to put him in his place, but Landon found it odd—Frank was the minister, he was just a lieutenant vice-captain. Was there any point in picking a fight?
Time slowly passed. Frank Lu was completely absorbed in his reading, as if he'd forgotten Landon was even there.
Half an hour went by...
An hour went by...
Two hours went by...
Three hours went by...
Finally, Frank Lu put down the files and looked up, apologizing to Landon: "Sorry to keep you waiting."
"It's only right," Landon replied coolly, growing even more disdainful of this new minister—his tactics were just too childish.
"I hear your hypnosis skill is pretty good?"
Frank Lu asked with curiosity.
"It's alright," Landon said blandly.
"Oh? Why don't we have a little exchange?" Frank Lu narrowed his eyes slightly.
"No need for that," Landon shook his head.
"Relax, I'll only use the same level of mental strength as you," Frank Lu said, smiling with a hint of pride.
"That's not what I'm worried about. I'm worried you'll lose and look bad, Minister."
"What did you say?"
Colonel Lu's expression suddenly darkened, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.
Landon Lu looked at him and said slowly, "I mean, if Colonel Lu—a two-star Psychic Adept—loses to me, you won't be able to show your face. So, it's better not to compete."
Colonel Lu snapped, "Arrogant! You're just a one-star Psychic Adept and you dare say you can beat me!"
Landon shrugged indifferently. "Fine, let's say I'm not as good as you. By the way, Colonel, do you have anything else for me? If not, I'll head out."
"...You!"
Colonel Lu's eyes filled with anger. "Alright, let's have a contest. If you win, I'll promote you to deputy battalion captain. If you lose, you leave the City Special Police on your own!"
Landon showed no sign of panic. "So how do you want to compete, Colonel?"
"Since you're good at hypnosis, we'll compete in hypnosis, of course!"
Landon curled his lip. "Heh, but how do I know you're using the same level of mental power as me?"
Colonel Lu took out an oval-shaped metal device. "See this? It's the latest portable mental strength tester. Once you set a target value, it'll sound an alarm if anyone goes over. Now, test your own mental strength with it."
Landon took the device and released only a tiny portion of his true mental power. The numbers on the device jumped rapidly, finally settling at 6.1.
Seeing that number, Colonel Lu was shocked. "You only just became a Psychic Adept—how can your mental strength already be 6.1?"
"Good talent. Can't be helped."
Landon replied offhandedly.
"Fine. Very well!"
Colonel Lu nodded, suppressing his frustration, then gritted his teeth and called out, "Hu Wei, get in here."
The office door opened, and the same man who had frisked Landon earlier walked in.
"Next, use your full strength to hypnotize him!" Colonel Lu pointed at Hu Wei.
"Come on, kid, show me what you've got!" Hu Wei smirked, completely confident. His strength had been honed on the battlefield—he had iron willpower. No way some rookie one-star Psychic Adept could hypnotize him.
