Even More Curious

Alexander Hayes looked at Lily Evans, so thin and fragile, and remembered that winter in Haizi Village. The snow had blocked all the roads, and Lily Evans had been pushed into the icy water by May Su. She’d nearly died that day.

Back then, he was still a fool. Seeing Lily Evans unconscious and unresponsive, he was truly terrified she might never wake up again.

Now, it felt as if that scene were repeating itself, making Alexander Hayes deeply uneasy.

He slipped a hand under the quilt—because Dr. Rowan Lin had warned him that Lily Evans was still in a critical period, and there was a real danger of massive bleeding.

If he kept lifting the quilt to check, the cold wind would blow over Lily Evans’s body. Alexander couldn’t bear to let her catch a chill, so he kept his hand under the covers, carefully checking for signs of heavy bleeding, and held that position the whole time.

Outside Quentin Lin’s treatment room, a long line had formed—everyone was waiting to have their blood drawn.

Thanks to their experience treating Bai Lu’s child, Quentin Lin and Simon Yu worked in perfect sync this time, calm and efficient.

Simon Yu was in charge of collecting blood, then passed the vials behind the screen, where Quentin Lin was performing the blood transfusion for the child. When the supply of fresh, healthy blood was running low, Simon Yu would draw blood from the next person, making sure it was always fresh and hygienic.

When Dr. Rowan Lin entered the room, Simon Yu was busy drawing blood from a household servant.

The servant looked frightened, but having already seen Simon Yu draw blood from others, he wasn’t quite so scared.
