The Masquerade Ball

1/4/2026

Cecilia Gu may look gentle on the outside, but that doesn't mean she's indecisive.

Rona Muir and Sophie Mo smiled at the same time.

Cecilia continued, "If you're here to ask for something from Charles Yin or Leon Mai, I'm sorry, I can't help you. If you tried to be friendly with us back then, please take it back. We just want to enjoy a holiday like normal people. If the captain has any other purpose or request, please state it directly."

Sure enough, the chef's expression stiffened slightly.

His expression stiffened—not changed.

Faced with Cecilia Gu's accusation, he didn't dare change his expression.

Rona Muir and Sophie Mo instantly understood.

"Alright, you can go now. Stop lingering in front of the three of us." Cecilia frowned slightly and spoke coldly.

Cecilia herself might not have noticed, but ever since she returned from Yuanshan Village, she carried a faint sense of authority.

Sure enough, the chef didn't dare utter a word and quietly turned to leave.

After Cecilia sent the chef away, no one came by to deliver anything anymore.

Cecilia happily tasted plenty of delicious food.

After they'd eaten, the three realized they hadn't seen Jane Xiao or Myron. The two were probably off somewhere having a romantic moment, so they didn't bother looking for them.

Honestly, the three of them were just here to enjoy the food.

Besides, Cecilia wasn't a child, so of course she wouldn't get in the way of Jane Xiao and Myron's romance.

In other words, Cecilia was happy to see them together.

So, Cecilia didn't disturb their time together.

After finishing their meal, everyone decided to take advantage of the sunshine and go fishing, enjoying some peaceful moments.

The assistant quickly brought over a chair for Cecilia, helped her get settled, and then prepared her fishing gear.

"I don't know how to fish, so I'll just watch you guys," Cecilia said with a smile.

"Just watch and learn," Sophie Mo said with a smile. "I'm a fishing expert!"

Rona Muir protested, "I'm not bad either! Come on, let's have a contest today and see who's better!"

"Sure! How about a three-hour limit?" Sophie Mo raised an eyebrow. "Let's see whose skills are sharper!"

"No problem," Rona Muir nodded, accepting the challenge.

Fishing is a time-consuming activity—whoever can sit still the longest will catch the most.

As expected, Cecilia kept time for them, and the two started their contest, casting their rods and focusing intently.

Cecilia sat nearby to keep them company. Seeing others come over to fish too, she laughed and said, "You two keep at it. I'm going to the restroom."

Rona Muir and Sophie Mo nodded, saying, "Hurry back."

Cecilia waved her hand, telling the assistants to stay put—she could go by herself.

The restroom wasn't far, so there was no need for a crowd to follow her.

Besides, her five-month belly wasn't so big that she couldn't see her feet while walking.

Cecilia walked to the restroom, only to find it was under maintenance.

Damn!

Looks like she'll have to use the restroom on the next floor.

Without hesitation, Cecilia turned and slowly walked to the next floor.

She had just stepped off the stairs and hadn't even found the restroom yet when someone handed her a mask and pushed her into a very dimly lit room.

Cecilia looked around and realized the decor was straight out of a 17th-century British royal palace.

Countless people wore masks and glamorous outfits, dancing elegantly to the music.

Damn, it's a masquerade ball!

She'd ended up in the wrong place!

She was just trying to find the restroom...

"Beautiful lady, may I have this dance?" A soft voice sounded behind her.

Even though the voice was very low—almost unnaturally so—Cecilia still sensed something familiar about it.

Could it be...

Cecilia whipped around!

She saw a tall, striking young man with short golden hair, wearing a half-mask. His presence was impossible to ignore, and he was smiling at her.

Seeing Cecilia's surprised expression, the man performed an elegant English nobleman's bow.

Cecilia had studied this before—she knew his etiquette was flawless.

"Sorry, I've come to the wrong place. I wasn't planning to attend the ball," Cecilia said, a bit embarrassed.

"Since you're here, why not enjoy the elegant music and dancing?" The Captain's white uniform made his long legs look even more graceful.

Cecilia actually wanted to refuse.

But for some reason, the next moment, she found herself gently pulled by him and instantly spun into the dance floor.

The Captain was an incredible dancer. Even though Cecilia was pregnant, he still made her feel elegant.

The music was slow, so their movements were small and gentle. Despite the slow pace, nothing was lost in terms of nobility.

Cecilia found herself looking up into his eyes.

Even with the mask, Cecilia couldn't shake the feeling that those eyes beneath it were so familiar...

What a strange feeling, isn't it?

Why did he seem so familiar?

They'd only just met, right?

"Excuse me... do you know me?" Cecilia finally couldn't help but ask.

"Why wouldn't I know such a beautiful lady?" he replied with a gentle smile. Just the curve of his lips was enough to make hearts flutter.

Cecilia suddenly wanted to reach out and lift his mask, just to see what kind of breathtaking face was underneath.

She wondered, compared to Charles Yin, who would be more impressive?

"Maybe we already knew each other in a past life." He leaned down, whispering in Cecilia's ear, "This life, I've followed your footsteps. How could you forget my eyes?"

Cecilia's ears instantly turned red.

Oh my god! This man was a master at flirting!

"You're such a joker. We only met today," Cecilia replied calmly. "So, can you tell me who you are?"

(Irrelevant passage, skip translation.)

He kept his tone calm, but this time didn't dodge the question: "Wasn't it you who told the chef to have me come find you?"

Cecilia was stunned. When did she ever tell the chef...?

Wait a minute!

Could he be the captain of this cruise ship?

Cecilia's eyes widened in shock!

"How sad, you made a date with me and now you've forgotten." He smiled, his voice enchanting and making her blush even harder.

"Sorry, I just..." Cecilia stammered, not sure what to say.

"It's alright. You called for me, so here I am." As the music ended, he made a graceful finishing move and stepped back from Cecilia.

"You're the captain?" Cecilia still couldn't quite believe it.

This captain was way too handsome, wasn't he?

"Why? Do I not look the part?" He tilted his head and looked at Cecilia.

Cecilia shook her head slightly. The captain's uniform on him was just ridiculously good-looking.
