Alex smiled, "You really know how to use the resources. I'm at the office now, come on over."
With that, Alex hung up the phone.
Wendy stared at her phone and muttered, "I just wanted to apply for something—I didn't actually mean to ask for your help!"
But since Chief Assistant Alex said so, wouldn't it be rude not to go?
Well... I guess I'll go then.
Wendy packed up her things and headed to the office, making her way to Alex's room.
As the chief assistant to the CEO, they all have their own offices.
Since they have to provide all sorts of conveniences for the CEO, most assistants' offices are packed with stuff.
Alex's office is right next to the CEO's, so it's easy to report in at any time.
Wendy nervously knocked and walked in. "Chief Assistant Alex, I'm here."
After finishing her messages, Wendy looked up and saw Alex sitting there with a serious expression. Suddenly realizing what she'd done, she blushed and said, "Sorry, Chief Assistant Alex, I was just telling Doug and Coco Shen about all this! Please, eat—go ahead!"
Wendy sat down, not daring to move, and just watched Alex efficiently handle some tasks.
After finishing up, Alex finally said to Wendy, "So, which resources do you want to use?"
Wendy replied a bit sheepishly, "I just want to look into Victor Shen and Jason Shen. Oh, Victor Shen is Coco Shen's biological father, and Jason Shen is her half-brother."
Wendy mumbled, "Chief Assistant Alex, don't worry about me—I can manage. Ahhh, Doug says she's going to use the beauty trap! Beauty trap—so who's going to do it? Coco Shen is Jason Shen's sister, so it's just Doug and me left. I don't know how!"
From the start, Alex was aware of every assistant's family situation.
What happened today really upset us, so Doug and I want to help Coco out." Wendy was both angry and uneasy. "I know our Yin Group's intelligence network is the most thorough, so I figured—why go anywhere else when we have our own? ...Why are you looking at me like that? Did I say something wrong? Was I not supposed to ask for your help?
Alex shook his head. "It's fine. So, have you figured out how you want to help Coco get even?"
"Of course—we want him to regret it for the rest of his life." Wendy clenched her fists, furious. "Chief Assistant Alex, you have no idea! When it all went down today, we were right there. Victor Shen acted like Coco wasn't even his daughter. Every word out of his mouth was so cruel, so cold—like he was talking to an enemy. I guess he thinks that when Coco and her mom left him years ago, it hurt his pride, so now he just wants her to suffer as much as possible."
Alex smiled.
If the young madam's assistants could unite as one, that would be ideal.
After all, the three of them will be working with the young madam for a long time.
Now that such an opportunity has arisen, he certainly wouldn't just stand by and do nothing.
"Alright, I'll have someone look into their situation," said Chief Assistant Alex. "How is the young madam today?"
"She's doing well." Wendy's eyes lit up when she heard Chief Assistant Alex agree, and she replied, "After the young madam signed the papers and came back, she spent the afternoon reading in her room. Actually, I know she's giving us a break on purpose so we can help little Shen! The young madam was pretty upset today, too!"
Chief Assistant Alex understood immediately.
Of course the young madam would be angry.
She absolutely can't stand things like this.
Chief Assistant Alex made a call: "Have someone investigate Victor Shen and Jason Shen. Yes, send the report to me later. No, it's not for the CEO. Okay."
"The report will be here soon. Just wait here for a bit," Chief Assistant Alex said, glancing at the CEO's office as the door opened. He quickly gestured for Wendy to pause and turned to leave.
Seeing how busy Alex was, Wendy sensibly kept quiet and sat obediently on the sofa, waiting for him to finish.
The room was filled with documents, mostly reports compiled from various departments.
Wendy was worried she'd break something if she wandered around, so she just sat still on the sofa, playing on her phone while she waited.
Alex was gone for over half an hour before finally returning.
When he came back, he had a few sheets of paper in hand.
Alex handed the papers to Wendy. "This is everything on Victor Shen and Jason Shen. I even included Victor Shen's current family situation—should be useful for you."
Wendy was thrilled.
She hadn't expected things to be so efficient!
After all, being the chief assistant to the CEO of the Yin Group is a pretty high-powered job.
Wendy's eyes sparkled, practically full of stars. "Thank you so much, Chief Alex! Let me treat you to dinner!"
Alex smiled, suddenly finding this young woman so cute and soft. Southern girls are always adorable, but Wendy was especially petite and delicate—fair-skinned, bright-eyed, with a round, babyish chin, just like a little bun.
"Sure," Alex agreed offhandedly.
"Uh..." Wendy hesitated.
She'd only said it without thinking.
But now that she'd said it, she couldn't back out.
"Do you have time tonight?" Wendy asked cautiously.
If he was busy, she could get out of it!
But Alex answered, "I'm free. The CEO's going on a business trip tonight, taking Ben and Chris with him. I'll be staying at the office in case they need anything."
"Oh." Wendy nodded, feeling a bit disappointed—why hadn't she been invited along?
That night, Alex drove Wendy to a quiet spot for dinner.
It wasn't really about the food—it was just peaceful.
Wendy didn't feel like eating much, and Alex probably didn't either.
Sure enough, as soon as they sat down, Alex said, "You three girls never make a move unless you're going to shake things up for Victor Shen. You only get away with it because Mrs. Yin spoils you."
Wendy grinned, "That's right—Mrs. Yin totally dotes on us! When everything happened today, she told us to ask for help if we needed anything. Mrs. Yin is so great, I want to stay by her side forever."
Alex smiled, casually ordered a few dishes, handed the menu to the waiter, and said to Wendy, "So, tell me—what's your plan?"
"Honestly, we haven't figured it all out yet," Wendy admitted. "Here's what we're thinking: Victor Shen is your classic toxic patriarch, obsessed with having sons, like his life isn't complete without them. So, if you want to hurt him, you go after his sons. I came to you for help because I want to know exactly how many sons Victor Shen has! If we're going to do this, we have to do it right—Coco's suffered long enough, it's time for her to finally hold her head high."
Alex chuckled. "And then?"
"We haven't thought that far ahead," Wendy admitted. "We're planning to discuss it once we get the intel."
Alex pointed to the documents on the table. "Victor Shen really is a textbook toxic patriarch. That's why he's got so many women on the side, but only his current wife and his old classmate in another city have given him sons—the rest all had daughters, so you don't need to worry about them."
Wendy nodded. "So, just two sons!"
"Mrs. Shen is pretty savvy. So even though Victor Shen's old classmate had a son, she couldn't become the official wife. Still, the conflict between the two women is obvious. The reason the old classmate lives in another city is to keep them from causing trouble together." Alex kindly reminded Wendy, "Sometimes, you don't have to get your hands dirty—let them fight among themselves and keep yourself squeaky clean. That's the best way."
No wonder Alex works for the CEO!
Alex's words instantly gave Wendy a new perspective.
Wendy was intrigued. "So, how do we get that woman to come to N City?"
"That's easy," Alex said, noticing the sparkle in Wendy's eyes and smiling. "Victor Shen's illegitimate son is about school age now, and the city they're in doesn't have good schools. N City has the best education resources."
Wendy's eyes lit up—she got what Alex meant.
Wendy was so excited she didn't care that Alex was still there—she whipped out her phone and started texting Coco Shen, sharing everything she'd found and their plan to deal with the Shen family.
Coco Shen was overjoyed when she saw the message. She thought the plan was brilliant.
Alex saw Wendy's excited face and couldn't help but smile, shaking his head.
When the food arrived, Alex watched Wendy's eyes light up with excitement. Seeing she wasn't even paying attention to her meal, he kindly peeled a big shrimp and handed it to her.
Alex had meant to just hand Wendy the shrimp for her to eat.
But Wendy was so caught up chatting with Coco Shen and Doug, she forgot all about manners. When Alex handed her the shrimp, she just opened her mouth and ate it right out of his hand.
Her tongue accidentally brushed against Alex's fingers.
A jolt of electricity shot from Alex's fingers straight to his heart. His hand trembled slightly—he almost lost his composure.
But Wendy, the culprit, didn't notice a thing. She just kept texting away with Doug and Coco Shen.
Alex gave Wendy a helpless look.
If he didn't already know Wendy had never dated anyone, he'd think she was trying to flirt with him.
After all, being the chief assistant to the CEO of the Yin Group is a pretty high-powered job.
Everyone outside wants to get close to him, hoping he'll put in a good word with Charles Yin.
After finishing her messages, Wendy looked up and saw Alex sitting there with a serious expression. Suddenly realizing what she'd done, she blushed and said, "Sorry, Chief Alex, I was just telling Doug and Coco Shen about all this! Please, eat—go ahead!"
Alex lowered his gaze slightly. "It's fine. Take your time, no rush."
"Mhm, mhm!" Wendy believed him and went right back to texting away.
Alex acted like nothing had happened, using serving chopsticks and a spoon to dish food out for Wendy.
Wendy mumbled, "Chief Alex, don't worry about me—I can manage. Ahhh, Doug says she's going to use the beauty trap! Beauty trap—so who's going to do it? Coco Shen is Jason Shen's sister, so it's just Doug and me left. I don't know how!"
