Chapter 997: Orc Sword Saint
At that moment, a flash of light appeared in the distance, instantly crossing over a thousand meters and arriving right in front of Hubert, who was closest to the Red Flame Fire Fox.
Hubert instinctively raised Slaughter to block, and in that instant, the dark light exploded...
Twisting black smoke took shape, forming one demonic head after another—each about the size of a fist—crowding around a thick black arrow, as wide as a thumb.
Where the black arrow met Slaughter, swirling black vortices spun, emitting sharp, screeching cries.
Gritting his teeth, Hubert staggered backward—the monstrous force barely able to hold back the black arrow. After a second, all the demonic heads crowded to the arrow’s tip, and with a burst of black light, Hubert was blasted away. Everything within a dozen meters looked as if it had been corroded.
Only then did everyone see, far off in the sky, a dozen wyverns swooping in at high speed. On the back of one wyvern stood a Blazeforge Orc with crimson skin, wielding a massive black bow at least two and a half meters long.
The wyverns moved so fast that within two seconds, they were upon the crowd. Six Blazeforge Orcs riding wyverns hurled iron claws toward the corpse of the Red Flame Fire Fox.
Six iron claws latched onto the six horns of the Red Flame Fire Fox, and the wyverns began to ascend rapidly.
Unfortunately, the Red Flame Fire Fox’s limbs were pinned to the ground. Without breaking the ice and the stony giant hands restraining it, no one could move the beast. Even when it was alive, it couldn’t break free in a short time—let alone now, with just the strength of six wyverns...
The Blazeforge Orcs had appeared so suddenly that, aside from Leon, almost everyone else was nearly drained of mana.
Every member of the Mage Legion was wounded. Reina had been struck several times by the Red Flame Fire Fox’s tails, and resisting the Foxfire had consumed much of her mana—especially that final Zero-Degree Dragon Breath, which had required her full strength.
The Patchwork Golem and Anderson weren’t badly hurt, but against these highly mobile Blazeforge Orc Windriders, they were nearly useless.
Hubert relied solely on brute strength, which was no help against enemies in the sky.
Leon frowned. Were the Blazeforge Orcs here just to snatch the Red Flame Fire Fox’s corpse?
There was no time to think. Theo, who was devouring the lingering Foxfire on the Red Flame Fire Fox, acted first. Orange flames ignited the six iron chains, instantly burning through them. The fire chased along the chains, leaping skyward.
Seeing this, the six Windriders immediately released the chains and soared higher into the sky.
Below, Leon shot up into the air, instantly transforming into a Lava Avatar—a towering giant of molten rock over ten meters tall, his body dragged upward by surging magma.
Clusters of rolling magma appeared out of thin air—within seconds, a dozen magma balls, each seven or eight meters wide, floated around Leon.
Magma churned, and massive dark red arrows shot out from the magma balls—dozens of lava spears, each seven or eight meters long, hurtled after the six Blazeforge Orc Windriders.
A violent whooshing filled the air as most of the magma spears were dodged, and the rest were deflected by the Blazeforge Orcs on their wyverns with long spears.
Face cold, Leon cast Flight and gave chase, but after only a few hundred meters, the remaining Windriders dove from the side, heading straight for the Red Flame Fire Fox on the ground.
Leon frowned, abandoning the chase after the six Windriders and instead casting spells at the others.
But just as Leon turned, the six fleeing Windriders spun around, hurling poisoned spears with a piercing whoosh straight at him.
Ten-meter-wide Magma Shields swirled around Leon, blocking the poisoned spears—but the force pinned him in place. The remaining eight Windriders seized the chance to dive at the Red Flame Fire Fox, their wyverns clawing desperately at the corpse, trying to pull it free.
Now Anderson and the Patchwork Golem began casting spells, unleashing torrents of four-element magic against the wyverns in the sky.
Dense black smoke suddenly spread, the aura of the Abyss seeping out. The smoke twisted into jagged black shields, which withstood Anderson and the Patchwork Golem’s attacks as the orcs kept tearing at the Red Flame Fire Fox’s corpse.
But they still couldn’t lift the Red Flame Fire Fox’s corpse from the ground...
After all that effort, their hard-won prize was about to be snatched away—and not just any corpse, but that of a transcendent magical beast. Leon’s face grew icy cold.
The Lava Giant raised its hands slowly, magma runes spraying from its palms. Instantly, the earth around the Red Flame Fire Fox’s corpse began to tremble.
