Taking Care of the Child Personally

Seeing Lily Evans so nervous for him, Alexander Hayes felt a warm surge in his heart. He said to Lily, "My dear, there's something I need to tell you. But before I do, you must remember one thing: in this lifetime, I love only you. I've never had feelings for any other woman, nor will I ever. Do you understand?"

Lily Evans stared at him in surprise, then nodded and said, "Alright, I remember. Go ahead."

Alexander Hayes briefly told Lily Evans about Sophie White’s background, and explained everything about Sophie currently recuperating at the Lin Residence.

After hearing this, Lily Evans’s face instantly fell. "Oh, so you’ve been hiding this from me all along! Now that you can’t keep it secret anymore, you finally decide to tell me, is that it!?"

Recalling Madam Flora’s advice, Alexander Hayes immediately declared his loyalty, "It wasn’t my intention to hide anything from you, my dear. She’s just someone insignificant—hardly worth your concern."

"Insignificant? Hmph! How can someone you kept by your side to personally raise be called insignificant?" Lily Evans felt much more at ease after hearing Alexander’s words, but she still couldn’t help being a little annoyed.

"A dying friend entrusted her to me, and she’s the daughter of a loyal official—her identity is sensitive. If anyone found out she’s the daughter of a traitor, she’d be doomed. I could only keep her safest in the army, and since she was just a child then, I couldn’t let her live among the men, so I kept her close. At that time, she really was just a kid." Alexander Hayes turned Lily Evans to face him, looking seriously into her eyes. "My dear, before I met you, there was never anyone else in my heart. And after meeting you, there’s no room for anyone else."

Looking at Alexander’s anxious yet earnest expression, Lily Evans snorted proudly and said, "Since you usually behave so well, I’ll believe you this time!"

Alexander Hayes immediately made a gesture of respect. "Thank you, my dear, for being so understanding!"

With that, Alexander Hayes moved the nearby couch over and placed it beside Lily Evans’s bed, then lay down on it.
