Taste My Pain From Years Ago
The noble Princess May finally lowered her proud head, kneeling before the woman she’d hated for years—Lily Evans. Clutching her child, her body nearly pressed to the ground, she pleaded, "My son is gravely ill. Please, save him! I beg you! As long as you save my son’s life, I’ll agree to anything!"
Lily Evans looked down at Princess May, her voice cold: "So, you have a son. You understand a child’s life means more than your own. But when you poisoned my unborn child, did you ever consider that I was a mother too? Princess May, now you finally taste the pain I once endured..."
"I... I..." Princess May was speechless at Lily Evans’s words. She glanced behind Lily Evans at Charles Hayes, knowing he was the child she’d nearly poisoned to death.
Princess May swallowed hard and said, "But your son—he seems perfectly fine now..."
"Perfectly fine!?" Lily Evans’s voice suddenly rose. She turned to look at Charles Hayes, then glared at Princess May. "Do you know how much my son suffered because of your poison? How many years of painful treatments he endured just to survive? If not for your cruelty, my son would’ve been born healthy and happy—he wouldn’t have suffered so much! And now you have the nerve to tell me my son’s perfectly fine!"
The anger in Lily Evans’s voice made everyone feel a chill in the air around her.
Charles Hayes was born weak and nearly lost the use of his legs. Fortunately, after years of treatment from the Lin Family of Healers, he finally regained his health.
But the treatments were agonizing, and Charles Hayes suffered greatly even as a baby in swaddling clothes.
As a mother, Lily Evans could never forgive Princess May—the one responsible for all this suffering.
Princess May clearly realized Lily Evans was furious. She kowtowed desperately and pleaded, "I know I was wrong! Queen Lily of Qin, it’s all my fault! Blame me, punish me if you must, but my son is innocent. Please, for the sake of his life, save him!"
Lily Evans looked at Princess May with icy indifference. Princess May, desperate for help, had already bruised her forehead from kowtowing.
Charles Hayes bit his lip, watching Princess May. He knew about the poisoning when he was still in his mother’s womb, and that the Princess May before him was the one who had caused him years of pain.
Young Charlotte Hayes, her eyes full of curiosity, stared at Princess May as she continued to kowtow.
Charlotte Hayes wanted to ask something, but sensing the tense atmosphere—her mother seemed furious—she just held tightly to her brother’s hand and stayed silent.
Lily Evans watched Princess May kowtow, her gaze cold and unyielding, not even thinking to stop her.
It was as if Lily Evans wished Princess May would smash her head open before she’d be satisfied.
Princess May never expected Lily Evans wouldn’t stop her. But she’d already begun her desperate plea, and now couldn’t stop kowtowing.
After all, she was the one who first created this enmity with Lily Evans. Now, all she could do was play the part of the suffering mother, hoping Lily Evans would soften and save her child.
Clearly, Princess May had miscalculated this time.
Her forehead was nearly split open from kowtowing, but Lily Evans remained silent. At last, Princess May could barely kneel, clutching her son, looking up at Lily Evans as blood streamed from her brow.
"Queen Lily of Qin, please, I beg you—have mercy and save my son!" Princess May cried.
After a long silence, Lily Evans finally spoke: "Princess May, do you know why your son is so ill?"
