Chapter 727: What Now?
Using the power of wind to store sound at all times, waiting for an intruder—this is the enemy's nightmare...
At its peak, the Silent Mage Tower was so formidable that any enemy below Sky Rank couldn't even take three steps within its range and survive. Even four Sky Rank masters were killed outright.
If the Silent Trap could move, or didn't need time to slowly accumulate power, Curis Quinn could have dominated the world with just Wyndel Vossade at his side...
Aside from his strongest signature spell—the Silent Trap—Wyndel Vossade's mastery over wind magic was beyond extraordinary. Even elemental hurricane beings couldn't compare. He could fully exploit wind spells and develop countless terrifying variants.
In the future, even as a mere thirty-eighth rank wraith, Wyndel Vossade joined Curis Quinn to slay a Ninth-Rank Title Archmage...
Cold sweat dripped from Leon's brow, one drop after another. No wonder things felt so strange before—damn it, we've stepped right into a Silent Trap...
Luckily, the forest was already eerily quiet—not a living creature in sight. Otherwise, we wouldn't even have had a chance to cast a Silence Barrier...
If this had been a noisy place, we wouldn't have needed to trigger the trap ourselves. Just the sound of our heartbeats would have set off the Silent Trap, instantly turning our brains to mush...
Now that the Silent Trap is activated, Wyndel Vossade is probably lurking nearby. If we try to escape, we'll die horribly. We have to be on full alert.
Leon quickly explained the situation with Wyndel Vossade to everyone, and in an instant, cold sweat broke out across every forehead—even Reina, usually stone-faced, had beads of water streaming down her cheeks...
Not even a dragon's mind could withstand that kind of power...
Each of them felt an overwhelming sense of relief that the environment here was disturbingly quiet to begin with...
Anderson's three faces twisted in eerie terror as he frantically layered a dozen Silence Barriers on himself. Hubert's face went pale with fear, pleading with Leon to add a few more layers for him...
Even Elsa's expression changed; she had no idea Wyndel Vossade's Silent Trap was this powerful, since he died only a few years after creating this mutated wind spell...
Leon hadn't even finished speaking when faint ripples appeared in the air all around—so subtle, like barely perceptible waves in the atmosphere.
A flame elemental Leon summoned was grazed by one of those faint ripples. It didn't even resist symbolically—instantly sliced into a dozen pieces...
Leon's expression shifted slightly, and he blinked ten meters away. Where he'd just stood, the ground looked as if a razor had sliced through it—a narrow crack three or four meters long appeared.
The most terrifying part was the utter silence—not a single sound could be heard!
Reina summoned an ice wall, but saw what looked like an invisible thread touch it. Where it made contact, a long, thin mark appeared, scattering ice chips everywhere. In less than a second, the wall was sliced clean in two...
Seth's shield didn't even put up a token resistance—instantly sliced in two by that invisible thread. If he hadn't rolled away, his body would have been cut in half as well...
Only the Alchemical Golem managed to withstand the invisible thread, sparks flying as it tanked the attack head-on.
Anderson's three faces twisted in bizarre terror, trembling uncontrollably.
"Damn it, those are Sonic Blades... and they're Limit Spell Sonic Blades at that! Isn't this magic supposed to require a special talent? I thought only wind element sovereigns could use it!"
A mutated wind spell, Sonic Blade has cutting power rivaling Dimensional Blade, but it's completely invisible and gives off only the faintest magical ripple. Normally, the sound is piercing, but here, there's no sound at all...
After those first Sonic Blades appeared, more began to rain down from all directions in the forest—countless invisible blades slicing through everything. All you could see was the dense trees instantly shredded into fragments...
It was as if, in total silence, every tree exploded at once—a sight that made your scalp tingle...
Cold sweat streamed down Leon's forehead as he swung his Dragonstaff, casting Sea of Flames three times over a wide area. The spell wasn't especially lethal, but its coverage was vast, turning the whole area into a sea of fire.
But this usually useless spell was now a lifesaver.
Within several hundred meters, everything turned into a fiery ocean. The invisible, terrifyingly fast Sonic Blades became traceable in the sea of flames.
Everyone watched as massive, two- or three-meter-long transparent Sonic Blades sliced through the flames, rushing toward them. With some warning, the battle became just a tiny bit less disastrous.
But only just.
As time passed, the number of Sonic Blades kept increasing, with no sign of stopping—and still no trace of Wyndel Vossade.
Even Leon's Mana Harness couldn't detect Wyndel Vossade's presence. Any fluctuation here was instantly absorbed by the Silent Trap, just like sound—unless you got really close, the Mana Harness couldn't pick up a thing.
The group dodged the Sonic Blade attacks in utter chaos, but had no way to fight back.
"Leon, don't you think the sound is getting louder...?"
Anderson floated beside Leon, his voice sounding as if it came from a great distance, tinged with strange unease.
Leon's expression darkened. He focused, and sure enough, it was true.
Even with the Silence Barrier up, they could still hear each other's voices—and those voices were getting louder by the second...

This meant that, during the fight, the Silent Trap's power had been drastically amplified...
Because while they fought, they could barely hear anything—all the sound was being absorbed by the Silent Trap...
If this kept up, even if Wyndel Vossade's Sonic Blades couldn't kill everyone outright, the ongoing battle would keep strengthening the Silent Trap until even the Silence Barrier couldn't hold. At that point, everyone would be doomed...
"Leon, we have to break out—if we stay in the Silent Trap, we're all dead..."
Anderson's voice was trembling now, and even the Silence Barrier covering him was starting to shake. That meant the outside noise was close to overwhelming the barrier—if it collapsed, he'd be the first to die as a Relic Spirit. This kind of power was the nemesis of Relic Spirits...
Leon's face was grim. Unable to track Wyndel Vossade, he started following the trajectory of the Sonic Blades, using his Mana Harness to frantically calculate their paths...
As time went on, everyone started getting hurt—even Hubert, whose body was terrifyingly strong, got four or five nasty wounds just from being grazed by the Sonic Blades...
Seth's clothes were shredded in his desperate dodging, now looking like a beggar as he braced himself with the Crystal Balance, waiting for death. Relying on that absurdly powerful defensive spell, he tanked the Sonic Blades while chugging potions to restore his mana...
Elsa cast the Wooden Sanctuary, but a split-second delay in dodging nearly cost her her head to a Sonic Blade...
"Leon, have you found a way out yet?"
Anderson was starting to panic.
"Archmage Leon, what do we do? I can't hold out much longer..."
Hubert was covered in blood, nearly in tears. With Sonic Blades raining down everywhere, there was no way to break through...
Leon's face was grim and he kept silent—anything said now could be overheard by Wyndel Vossade.
Escaping the Silent Trap wasn't so simple—the only way out was to find Wyndel Vossade first!
Only by finding Wyndel Vossade and disrupting his attack pattern could they hope to escape. Otherwise, they'd have to brute-force their way through countless Sonic Blades.
But with at least a kilometer to cover, and dozens of Sonic Blades to endure every second, no one here could survive that dash...
"The only way is to break out past the Silent Trap's boundary. Stay close to me! Don't lose sight of me! Don't lose sight of me!"
Just as everyone was about to be overwhelmed by Sonic Blades, Leon suddenly spoke up, repeating his final command three times.
Even Hubert, not the brightest, ignored everything else and remembered only the last command.
