Uncle Eric Gu's face turned green when he saw the other player's cards!
At that moment, Baldy glanced at him sideways and said, "Brother, your luck really sucks today! Why not call it quits? Look, the others are still waiting to play!"
Uncle Eric Gu's eyes were bloodshot from losing so much—there was no way he'd leave!
"No way, I have to win it back today! I've already lost all the dowry money I saved for my daughter. If I go home like this, my wife will kill me! Wait for me, I'm going to get more cash!" Uncle Eric Gu jumped up and shouted, "I will turn things around tonight! This is ridiculous! I refuse to believe it!"
Baldy exchanged glances with the other three men, then put on a helpless expression and said, "Alright, we'll take a break too. Hurry up! We'll wait for you for half an hour. If you're not back by then, we're not waiting anymore!"
Hearing they were willing to wait, Uncle Eric Gu was overjoyed and rushed out to find money.
As soon as Uncle Eric Gu left, one of Baldy's lackeys leaned over and asked, "Boss, how much do we want him to owe tonight?"
Baldy gave the lackey a deep look, a trace of fear flickering in his eyes. The cigarette dangling from his mouth almost fell to the floor.
Baldy scratched his head hard, forcing himself to calm down, then said to the others, "Tonight, let him be as miserable as possible! Offending Mr. Yin—this is already the most merciful ending! Alright, cut the crap! Watch for my signal later! This whole thing stays between us, no one says a word!"
The lackeys instantly fell silent, looking terrified—like deer in headlights.
After a short while, Uncle Eric Gu came back, carrying a shabby bag on his back.
Baldy looked at Uncle Eric Gu with a half-smile, half-smirk. "Hey, brother, where'd you get all that cash? Did you strike it rich somewhere?"
Uncle Eric Gu's face flushed, and he stammered, "I lent out some money a while back—just got it back today!"
He dumped the cash out of his bag onto the table, gritting his teeth. "I'm winning it all back tonight!"
"Good! That's the spirit!" Baldy shot a look at his boys, and they all started buttering up Uncle Eric Gu, showering him with flattery. He was in such a good mood, it was like he’d turned into the King of Gamblers, ready to sweep the table.
To keep him hooked, Baldy gave one of his lackeys a look. The guy immediately played into it, letting Uncle Eric Gu win a round.
Sure enough, Uncle Eric Gu instantly regained his confidence and fell right back into their trap.
But his luck didn’t last—the second and third rounds he lost even more, each time worse than the last.
Baldy kept needling him: "Hey, buddy, what’s going on? You were doing great just now—how come your luck turned so fast?"
Sweat broke out on Uncle Eric Gu’s forehead. Stubbornly, he said, "Who knows what’s going on—this is crazy! I don’t believe it! I’m putting it all on the line!"
Baldy glanced at Uncle Eric Gu and silently threw out a card. The others immediately followed his lead—swish, swish, swish—another win!
Baldy calmly scooped up all the cash on the table and said to Uncle Eric Gu, "Alright, buddy, you should quit now! Make some room and let the others have a turn!"
People around them started jeering, "Yeah, yeah, hurry up and give up your seat!"
Uncle Eric Gu stiffened his neck and slapped his carefully-guarded house purchase contract onto the table!
"I don't believe this! I refuse to accept I can't win it back!" Uncle Eric Gu's eyes were bloodshot, his whole face twisted with desperation.
Baldy shot a glance at the contract lying on the table.
Finally, the moment had come!
The order from above was to make sure Uncle Eric Gu lost that house contract!
Having accepted the payoff, Baldy wouldn’t dare slack off.
"Since you’re so confident, I won’t stand in your way! But this isn’t something you can just toss in as a bet. You sure about this?" Baldy eyed Uncle Eric Gu sideways. "If you’re sure, write a statement—don’t try to back out later!"
Baldy shot a look at his lackey, who immediately whipped out a statement and handed it to Uncle Eric Gu.
Uncle Eric Gu was so deep in his losing streak, he didn’t even wonder why they had a statement ready. He quickly stamped his fingerprint on it.
With the statement in hand, Baldy finally relaxed and smiled.
Uncle Eric Gu put it all on the line, hoping this round would be his comeback.
But with the trap set, there was no way he’d escape.
When Uncle Eric Gu lost again, he was completely stunned!
He grabbed the contract off the table, ready to deny everything!
Sitting across from him, Baldy said coolly, "Buddy, you lost fair and square! The house is gone."
Suddenly, Uncle Eric Gu dropped to his knees in front of Baldy with a loud thud.
The swagger he used to bully Jane Gu and Cecilia Gu was nowhere to be found.
"Boss, please let me go! I swear I'll pay you back every cent! This is my daughter's house—please, I can't lose it!" Uncle Eric Gu kept bowing his head to Baldy, begging for mercy.
"Oh... it's for your daughter?" Baldy replied carelessly. "Show him that statement. It clearly says if you back out and refuse to sell the house, your daughter has to work for me for free for ten years."
Uncle Eric Gu looked up and saw those exact words written clearly on a piece of paper.
Uncle Eric Gu knew exactly what Baldy did for a living. Hearing those words, he shuddered violently!
"Boss, no! My daughter’s just a kid—she can't do that kind of work!" Uncle Eric Gu sobbed, trying to grab Baldy’s leg, but was stopped by a lackey.
"That’s not up to you anymore. I warned you out of old friendship, but you insisted on jumping in—who can you blame?" Baldy looked smug. "I hear your daughter’s pretty—she’ll make good money in a place like that!"
Uncle Eric Gu's face went ghostly pale, his whole body shaking like a leaf.
He’d rather die than let his daughter end up in that kind of life!
"Well, Uncle Eric, what’s it gonna be? Made up your mind yet?" Baldy scratched his head impatiently. "My patience is running out! Don’t make me wait too long!"
Uncle Eric Gu was still hesitating.
Baldy nodded at his lackey, who turned to grab Jenny Gu.
Uncle Eric Gu panicked and grabbed the lackey, screaming, "I'll sell! I'll sell! I'll give up the house!"
Only then did Baldy grin in satisfaction. "See? Should’ve done this sooner!"
Baldy and his crew left in a hurry, and Uncle Eric Gu collapsed to the floor, unable to recover for a long time.
It’s over. It’s all over. Everything’s ruined.
Not only had he lost the two million Mr. Yin gave him, but he’d gambled away all his own savings too.
Now Jenny Gu’s house was gone too.
He really had nothing left.
Three o’clock in the afternoon.
Cecilia Gu and Jane Gu came back from grocery shopping, chatting and laughing. Little A popped open the trunk and started unloading all the groceries.
The three of them hadn’t even stepped inside when they heard a commotion next door—a crowd of neighbors had come out to watch the drama.
"What’s going on?" Jane Gu couldn’t help but ask.
Cecilia Gu was curious too. If she wasn’t pregnant right now, she’d be over there watching the show herself.
Little A just smiled and said nothing.
Of course he knew exactly what was happening.
But he couldn’t say anything right now.
Just then, a sharp female voice echoed from the hallway: "Get out, all of you! This is my house! You can’t take it from me! Honey, come tell them this house is ours, not theirs!"
Eric Gu was dragged out of the house, looking completely disheveled.
Eric Gu was furious. "Who the hell are you people? What makes you think this house is yours? Are you kidding me? This is my house! My mom bought it for me!"
Cecilia Gu and Jane Gu both froze, surprised that all this chaos was about Eric Gu.
Just yesterday, the Gu family had thrown a lavish wedding. They hadn’t even had time to visit the bride’s family—now all this drama?
Little A lowered his gaze and said to Cecilia Gu, "I’ll go see what’s happening. Madam, you’d better go inside; it wouldn’t be good if you got caught up in this."
Jane Gu agreed. She said to Cecilia Gu, "Forget it, let’s stay out of Gu family business. We don’t have anything to do with them anymore. Come on, there’s so many people—getting worked up isn’t good for the baby."
Cecilia Gu nodded and followed Jane Gu inside.
Little A turned and walked into the crowd. Baldy spotted him and perked up, about to greet him.
Little A shook his head slightly, and Baldy immediately understood what he meant.
With the boss watching, Baldy wouldn’t dare slack off.
Baldy whipped out the house contract and said to Eric Gu, "Take a good look. The contract’s in my hands now! I’m the owner of this house! I decide if you get to live here or not!"
Eric Gu didn’t believe it. He snatched the contract and tried to tear it up.
Baldy was quicker, snatching it back. He turned to the crowd of neighbors and said, "Everyone, look—we’re not bullies! We’ve got a signed, stamped contract! This house never belonged to Eric Gu; it was his brother’s. Now his brother owes me money, so the house pays the debt! I’m just taking back what’s mine—isn’t that fair?"
The neighbors all started gossiping and pointing fingers.
Eric Gu’s newlywed wife heard that and instantly went off on him. "Eric Gu, you jerk! Didn’t you say this house was yours? How could you lie to me?"
As soon as she finished, she reached out and scratched Eric Gu across the face.
This new wife was nothing like Jane Gu—she wasn’t gentle or kind at all.
She left Eric Gu’s face covered in scratches.
Eric Gu wanted to fight back, but seeing his wife’s big pregnant belly, he was scared of hurting his ‘son.’ All he could do was dodge her attacks, not daring to talk back.
Cecilia Gu and Jane Gu went inside, leaving all the shouting and chaos outside.
After a while, Little A came back in from outside.
"So, what happened?" Cecilia Gu asked for her mom. Even if Jane Gu didn’t say anything, she was definitely worried about all this—so Cecilia asked for her.
