Adopting Miles Gu

1/4/2026

Since Charles Yin had already spoken, Cecilia Gu felt no more burden.

Cecilia reached out to tease the little guy: "Since you have such a special connection with our family, why don't you stay and become my godson? My surname is Grant, so you can have the same surname as me. You're so adorable, I bet you'll grow up to be a handsome young man. I wonder if you'll be even more handsome than your little brother?"

The little one in Cecilia's belly immediately kicked in protest.

Cecilia clutched her belly and cried out, "Oh no, your little brother isn't happy! Haha! Since you're so cute, how about I call you Grant Miao, okay? Grant Miao, do you like this name?"

Mo Ruona agreed enthusiastically, "Grant Miao, little Meow Meow, that's a great name!"

At that moment, the two thick-skinned women probably didn't realize that the boy they had casually taken in would one day achieve enough to capture the world's attention.

Now that Grant Miao had his own name, he happily waved his little hands, clearly delighted.

Because Grant Miao had suffered from malnutrition as a child, his physical development was affected. Now that he was finally comfortable, he could eat and sleep well.

He spent little time awake and much more time sleeping.

Cecilia arranged for two dedicated maids to take care of his daily needs.

Mo Zixuan heard that Mo Ruona had picked up a son for Cecilia, and immediately cried out that she wanted to come to N City to see the little bird.

Poor Grant Miao, not only was he seen by everyone, now people couldn't stop thinking about him.

Mo Zixuan complained about her own brother in their little three-person group chat.

Mo Zixin was currently working with Charles Yin on the Summerville Coastal Reclamation Project in S City, so all the energy cases fell on Mo Zixuan's shoulders, leaving her no chance to visit N City.

After chatting for a while in the group, Mo Zixuan went offline.

She was just too busy.

After dumping this hot potato on Cecilia, Mo Ruona also left without a second thought.

With nothing else to do, Cecilia stayed home to play with the little one.

Watching Grant Miao gradually recover and look more and more like a healthy baby, Cecilia grew increasingly fond of this little bundle of joy.

Cecilia teased Grant Miao's fingers, stroked her belly, and started prenatal education for her own child: "Good boy, how about letting this little brother keep you company? In the future, you two will grow up together, go to school together, chase girls together, and even get into fights together..."

Aunt Zhang came in with some ginseng tea and happened to overhear that, unable to hold back a slightly awkward cough.

"Young Madam, little kids go through things quickly. I'll have someone pick out some clothes for Young Master Grant Miao. We only prepared newborn clothes at home, but a seven or eight month old can't fit into those," Aunt Zhang said softly.

"Aunt Zhang, tell the driver to wait for me at the door in half an hour. I don't have much else to do, so I'll go to the mall and buy him some things myself. Since I've accepted him as my son, I can't just ignore him," Cecilia said with a smile. "Bring a few more people along, just in case."

Aunt Zhang responded, set down the ginseng tea, and went off to make arrangements.

Cecilia couldn't carry the child herself, so a dedicated nanny held him as they all rode in the family van straight to the local mall.

Even though Cecilia was about to give birth, she'd been running around nonstop during her pregnancy and had never stayed home for more than a month.

So, even with her due date approaching, she was still in pretty good shape.

Cecilia walked ahead, pointing out clothes she liked and having the sales clerk pack them up right away.

After all, the mall belonged to Mo Zixin, and Cecilia had a diamond membership card—no matter how much she bought, it was all free!

That's right, free!

Ever since Cecilia learned that Charles Yin had given the Mo family so much face—on the surface, the project looked like it was all handled by the Yin consortium, but behind the scenes, Mo Zixin was involved too—she'd been swiping that card without a second thought!

You know, the profits the Yin family gave up to the Mo family could buy thousands of malls like this!

So what's a little money like this?

Cecilia was happily shopping up front, while Grant Miao enjoyed the spectacle from behind.

Whenever Grant Miao couldn't see Cecilia, he'd wave his little arms and call out, "Mama, mama..."

Cecilia couldn't help but say, "This kid is way too precocious. Sure, some babies this age can call people, but most still don't recognize anyone."

Assistant Xiao Wang playfully pinched Grant Miao's chubby cheeks, but except for Cecilia and Mo Ruona, he pretty much ignored everyone else.

"Young Madam's godson, of course he's special," Aunt Zhang said with a smile. "If he wasn't smart, how could he be the chief assistant to Young Master? When Young Master was little, Xiao Heng stuck by his side too. They grew up together, and Young Master's intelligence was famous, so Xiao Heng's brilliance was overshadowed. People thought Xiao Heng was a bit slow, but actually, he just knew how to hide his talents."

Hearing Aunt Zhang praise Xiao Heng like that, Xiao Wang gave her a grateful smile.

Cecilia laughed and said, "Yeah, Xiao Heng isn't slow at all. In his eyes, I'm the one who's slow."

Just then, someone walked quickly toward Cecilia with their head down.

As this person passed by Cecilia, they deliberately brushed against her.

Xiao Wang reacted quickly and pushed the person away: "Can't you watch where you're going?"

The person didn't look up, just kept apologizing with their head down: "Sorry, I didn't mean to."

Cecilia had only been lightly bumped, so she wasn't bothered. "Forget it, she didn't mean it. Let's go buy Grant Miao some nice shoes. A boy can't go without cool shoes, right?"

Grant Miao seemed to understand Cecilia and waved his little arms even more happily.

With her assistant, nanny, and bodyguard in tow, Cecilia marched on to the next counter.

After they'd left, the person who'd bumped into Cecilia slowly lifted her head, a flash of murderous intent crossing her pale, haggard face.

That person was none other than Jiang Huiyin, trapped deep in the wolf's den.

Jiang Huiyin used to be all arrogance and pride.

But now, Jiang Huiyin radiated a chilling aura, her eyes cold and venomous like a snake, icy and bloodthirsty.

She clenched her hand tightly inside her sleeve.

"Cecilia Gu, you really can't stay out of trouble! Too bad—my brother and cousin were both fooled by you! I've had enough of your fake, hypocritical face. You ruined me, so how could I ever let you go?" A vicious smile twisted Jiang Huiyin's face, making her look utterly repulsive. "Cecilia, just wait. It won't be long before I make you pay in blood!"

Walking up ahead, Cecilia couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching her.

But no matter how many times she looked back, she couldn't spot anything unusual.

She placed her right hand over her heart.

A strange sense of unease gripped her, as if something bad was about to happen.

Was it just nerves because she was about to give birth?

That must be it!

How could she suddenly feel so uneasy when everything was fine?

She must just be overthinking things!

Cecilia shook her head and kept walking.

Just then, Xiao Wang's phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, Xiao Wang quickly handed it to Cecilia: "It's the CEO calling."

Cecilia instantly put aside her unease and answered, "Hello, Charles..."

"Honey, I haven't seen you these past few days. Did you miss me?" Charles Yin's deep, gentle voice came through the phone. Even though they'd been married for over half a year, Cecilia still blushed whenever he said things like that.

"Stop it, I'm outside," Cecilia teased, unable to help herself. "I'm shopping for Grant Miao right now."

"You could've just let the housekeeper and Aunt Zhang handle it. Why do you need to do it yourself?" Charles Yin raised his brow.

"I'm his adoptive mother, so of course I have to take care of him! I was raised by adoptive parents myself, and that kind of love doesn't change just because of blood ties." Cecilia laughed. "You're his adoptive father—shouldn't you do something too?"

A soft, muffled laugh came from the phone: "Yes, yes, Madam, you're right! I'll come home today and bring him a welcome gift, okay?"

"Great!" Cecilia beamed when she heard Charles Yin was coming home. "I'll wait for you at home then."

They chatted for a bit longer before hanging up.

Cecilia grinned at Xiao Wang: "Your CEO is finally done with work and coming home today. He's been busy for more than half a month since the bidding started. The New Year is almost over, and he finally has time to come home. Let's hurry up and finish shopping so we can get back early."

Cecilia reached out to pinch Grant Miao's little cheeks. "Grant Miao, your daddy's coming home soon. Are you happy to see him?"

Grant Miao wrapped his tiny hand around Cecilia's finger and grinned happily.

Because of malnutrition earlier on, the child was late in getting his teeth.

Even at seven or eight months, his front teeth hadn't come in yet.

Cecilia gave Grant Miao the best formula and supplements, hoping he'd grow up healthy and strong.

That evening, Charles Yin finally returned home, looking travel-worn and tired.

The couple hadn't seen each other in days, so naturally they had a lot to talk about.

Because of Cecilia, Charles Yin treated Grant Miao quite well too.

It was Grant Miao's first time meeting such a handsome man, and he stared in awe before happily waving his little hand.

Even at his age, he already preferred being around good-looking people!

Charles Yin was stunned too. Even though he was about to become a father, it was his first time holding such a tiny baby.

"Young Master, give him a hug. Think of it as practice—when your own son is born, he'll be even smaller and more delicate." Seeing Charles Yin hesitate, Aunt Zhang didn't give him a choice and plopped Grant Miao right into his arms.

Up close, Grant Miao looked at Charles Yin and happily snuggled into his arms, babbling, "Daddy... Daddy..."

Shock flashed across Charles Yin's eyes!

Then a smile slowly spread across his face.

"Alright, just for that 'Daddy,' I'll accept you as my son." Charles Yin lifted Grant Miao high. "He's one of the Yin family now! His name is Grant Miao!"
