Innate Rune Master
Shannon looked at Maya Summers and smiled, "I never expected it, but Aunt Maya is a natural-born Rune Master."
"Huh? What makes you say that?" Maya asked.
"Not everyone can see the formation," Shannon replied. "The same array, in Grace's eyes, is just a pile of random rocks. But you can see the pattern—that's a gift, the essential talent of a Rune Master."
Maya scratched the back of her head. "Really? So that's what it is! I thought I was turning into Old Man Yuan, losing my mind!"
"Aunt Maya, are you interested in learning the real thing—becoming a true Rune Master?" Shannon asked.
Maya said, "If I really had the chance, of course I'd want to go! But..."
She came to Sigil City to look for Samuel Summers.
Since she hadn't found Samuel, she didn't want to go anywhere else...
"Shannon, do you really think my aunt could become a real Rune Master?" Grace's eyes lit up. "Like you?"
Shannon nodded and said, "If Aunt Maya is willing, I can write her a recommendation letter. With it, she can join the Sigil Sect—the biggest Rune Master organization in the East Wilds."
"That's wonderful! If she can join the Sigil Sect, I really can't thank you enough!" Grace said.
"Then let's head inside. I'll write the recommendation letter right now," Shannon said. "Aunt Maya can go whenever she likes."
Maya glanced at Grace and nodded, "Alright! Thank you, Miss Shannon."
......
Grace had read in a book at the Celestial Library that the Sigil Sect was the most powerful Rune Master organization in the East Wilds.
Shannon's master, Master Xuanwei, was said to be the strongest Rune Master on the continent. He was once a disciple of the Sigil Sect.
But for certain reasons, he left the sect later on.
If Aunt Maya really had this talent and could become a Rune Master, it would be a huge turning point in her life.
After Shannon left, Grace handed the recommendation letter to Maya and said, "Auntie, since you have this gift, you should give the Sigil Sect a try!"
But Maya shook her head, "I haven't found Samuel yet—I don't want to go anywhere."
Grace knew that Maya felt deeply indebted to Samuel.
And maybe, her determination to save Samuel wasn't entirely free of romantic feelings.
After a moment's hesitation, Grace took something out and placed it in front of her.
It was Samuel's jade pendant.
Maya's eyes sharpened. She picked up the pendant and asked in confusion, "Isn't this Samuel's pendant?"
"Yes, and that chip on it—I broke it when I was little. No doubt about it," Grace said.
"Where did you find it?"
"On a dead man," Grace replied. "He was from the Ye Clan—a powerful ancient family."
Maya didn't say a word.
"It only took one person from the Ye Clan to wipe out the entire Shen family. And there are plenty more like him in the Ye Clan," Grace said. "So, Auntie, whether Samuel is alive or not, there's nothing we can do right now!"
Maya bit her lip.
"All we can do is get stronger—it's the only way we can help him," Grace said. "The Sigil Sect is the biggest Rune Master sect in the East Wilds. If you go, and learn even a tenth of what Shannon knows, maybe you'll be able to find him."
Maya silently took the recommendation letter and said, "Alright, I'll go."
Maya was a woman of action.
That night, she packed her luggage. The next day, she left Sigil City and set out for the Sigil Sect, thousands of miles away.
Maya's cultivation level wasn't high, and Grace was worried she might run into trouble on the road, so she personally escorted her.
