I Am Here to Apply as a Medicine King Valley Guardian

As the woman spoke, Evan Lin turned to look at her, his gaze lingering for a moment before he hesitated slightly: "Yvonne Qu?"

The woman before him wasn’t exactly stunning, but looked to be in her twenties, tall and well-dressed—clearly from a well-off family.

Standing beside Yvonne Qu were two men—one looked to be in his twenties, the other in his thirties.

After hearing Yvonne's words, both men glanced at Evan Lin and Warren Wu standing nearby. Their eyes skipped over Evan without a second look, but lingered on Warren for a moment longer.

Xiaoyan, you know him?

The man raised his eyebrows, looking at Evan Lin with an indifferent gaze.

To him, the boy standing there was just an ordinary person; it was Warren Wu beside him who seemed to have some presence.

Oh, he’s the boy who boarded with my cousin Lynn Chen’s family. Didn’t I tell you before about my cousin in Brightsea City? I even showed you her photo. I met Evan Lin once when I visited Brightsea.

At that moment, Evan Lin also recalled the past—Yvonne Qu was Lynn Chen’s older cousin, apparently related to Charles Chen’s side. Her family was middle-class and usually lived in River City. When they’d met before, Evan had overheard her and Lynn discussing him.

Her comments weren’t exactly flattering. In fact, Yvonne had once privately urged Lucy Lu and Charles Chen to help Evan Lin find a place to rent, just so Lynn wouldn’t have to live under the same roof with a boy of unclear background. She worried that if Lynn’s classmates found out, it would hurt Lynn’s reputation.

In the end, it was Lucy Lu who put a stop to it.

"Your cousin Lynn Chen—I remember her. Next time there’s a chance, let’s all hang out together." The young man in his twenties, Henry Yuan, recalled the photo Yvonne Qu had shown him before, his eyes lighting up and a faint smile appearing.

Yvonne Qu was mature and had a good figure, but compared to Lynn Chen, her looks were far inferior. When Henry Yuan saw Lynn’s photo, he was stunned and always hoped to meet her. Over time, though, he’d gradually forgotten.

Now that Yvonne mentioned it, Henry Yuan finally remembered.

Henry Yuan glanced at Evan Lin and asked blandly, "So, you’re Yvonne’s cousin’s boyfriend?"

As soon as Henry Yuan asked, a strange look flashed across his face.

Lynn Chen’s photo was stunning, but the boy before him—fair-skinned and decent-looking—made Henry Yuan feel a little uncomfortable.

Hearing Henry Yuan’s question, Yvonne Qu immediately reached out and slapped his arm, shooting him a glare. "What nonsense are you talking about? There’s no way Lynn would be his girlfriend."

By the way, Evan, your mom’s a primary school teacher in Whitewood County, right? How’s she doing lately?

Yvonne smiled at Evan Lin, unconcerned about whether he’d overheard her earlier comments or might feel uncomfortable.

That was never something Yvonne Qu cared about.

Yvonne had already looked into Evan Lin’s family background: single parent, a mom working as a primary school teacher in Whitewood County. Compared to someone like Charles Chen, who earns over a million a year, Evan’s situation was worlds apart.

A primary school teacher in Whitewood County?' Henry Yuan couldn’t even be bothered to keep up the polite small talk and turned away outright.

She’s doing fine.

Evan Lin nodded.

Warren Wu listened to their back-and-forth, finding their words increasingly unpleasant. He worried Evan “Nine Mysteries” Lin might get angry and kill them all on the spot.

But to Warren’s surprise, Evan “Nine Mysteries” Lin didn’t seem angry at all. He looked as if he didn’t care about these people one bit, which actually reassured Warren—at least Evan wasn’t petty.

You came to Medicine King Valley for spiritual medicine? If so, you’ll probably have to wait.' Yvonne Qu’s interest faded as she looked at Evan Lin. She was surprised he’d made it this far, but didn’t think much of it.

I’m here to take spiritual medicine, but I don’t need to beg for it.

Evan Lin said calmly.

Warren Wu could only give a wry smile at that, while Henry Yuan immediately frowned. "Don’t need to beg—just take it? That’s some big talk."

But whether you’re begging or taking, you’ll have to wait. Today’s the day my cousin is competing to become a Medicine King Valley Guardian.

As Henry Yuan spoke, he looked proudly at the thirty-something man beside him.

Competing for Guardian?

Evan Lin glanced at him. The man was lean but had a piercing gaze—clearly a trained martial artist.

To become a Medicine King Valley Guardian, you have to defeat one of the current Guardians in single combat. My cousin Trent Yuan is already a late-stage Inner Strength expert, just one step from the peak.

Henry Yuan paused, giving Evan Lin a playful look. "Am I being too technical? You probably don’t even know what Inner Strength is, do you?"

Anyway, just know my cousin is strong, and this time he’s sure to win. Once he joins Medicine King Valley, maybe he’ll help you get some medicine, since you know Yvonne.

Henry Yuan grinned.

If the Yuan family gets a Medicine King Valley Guardian, it’ll be a huge win for us all.

Hmph, asking me to help get medicine for a complete stranger? Dream on." Trent Yuan said coldly, giving Evan Lin a disdainful look.

He didn’t feel any need to show Evan Lin respect. To Trent Yuan, a teenager with no background or connections was useless. As for favors, those were only for people who actually mattered.

In his eyes, this boy wasn’t even worth considering.

Ah, Evan, that’s just how Trent is." Yvonne Qu wasn’t upset by his words. She smiled at Evan Lin.

Weird, why hasn’t a Guardian from inside the Valley come out yet?

Trent Yuan frowned slightly. He’d been waiting here a long time. All he needed was to pick a Guardian, beat him cleanly, and he’d be in.

He was confident he could pick a late-stage Inner Strength Guardian and win.

Just as he finished speaking, someone finally appeared in the distance.

Here they come!

Trent Yuan’s face lit up, but in the next moment, he froze.

Why are there so many people coming?!
