Angry at His Lack of Ambition
"Princess Consort, I will do my best!" Lola clenched her fists tightly, as if making a solemn vow. Her voice suddenly rose, startling Princess Consort Lily.
Princess Consort Lily laughed heartily at Lola's rare serious expression, feeling gratified. "Good, good. Our Lola has grown up and can handle things on her own now."
Lola's face flushed red, and her heart surged like a rising tide.
She had witnessed so many women making a difference; even little Sisi from the mountains was going overseas to study. Surrounded by positive energy, Lola's competitive spirit was ignited. She resolved to carve out her own success and make everyone see her in a new light!
After giving her instructions, Princess Consort Lily yawned, curled up under the covers, and soon fell asleep.
Lola quietly kept watch by Princess Consort Lily's side. After some thought, she took a copy of 'Advanced Mathematics' from the bedside, and settled at the nearby desk to study it diligently.
She was determined to master her studies and not let Princess Consort Lily down!
Snowflakes drifted outside the window, and the room was very quiet.
The sound of Princess Consort Lily's breathing mingled with Lola's pen scratching across the paper. The room was warm, filled with the faint scent of books—a cozy and tranquil scene.
Just as Lola was working through a problem, she suddenly stopped writing and turned to look toward the door.
With Lola's keen hearing as a female bodyguard, she heard someone approaching through the snow outside the door and quickly went to greet them.
Margaret Evans, wrapped in a cloak and holding Quentin Lin by the hand, braved the snow to come over. She saw Lola at the doorway.
Lola lowered her voice and quickly said, "Princess Consort is asleep."
"Oh—" Margaret Evans slowed her steps, gestured for Quentin Lin to keep quiet, and whispered, "Lily has been so sleepy lately. Is she pregnant or not feeling well? Quentin, go find your father to check Lily's pulse for peace of mind."
Quentin Lin answered and trotted off through the snow toward the Lin Residence.
Margaret Evans entered the room, tiptoed to the bedside, and sat gently, watching Lily.
Lily was sound asleep, completely unaware that anyone had come into the room.
Margaret Evans tucked the quilt around her daughter, feeling a pang of tenderness. "Lily is truly exhausted. At least now she can finally rest a bit."
After saying this, Margaret Evans turned and noticed the books and writing materials on the desk. She looked at Lola and whispered, "Lola, are you studying?"
Lola's cheeks turned slightly red, and she nodded honestly.
Margaret Evans smiled and said, "Good child, working so hard even during New Year's—are you aiming to be the top scholar?"
Lola gave a graceful smile, her eyes filled with pride. "Madam, I'm not aiming to be the top scholar, but maybe someday I'll teach a few who become top scholars—and be their teacher!"
Margaret Evans let out a surprised sound and gave Lola a thumbs up. "Good child!"
Meanwhile, Quentin Lin dashed off to find Dr. Rowan Lin.
Dr. Rowan Lin was in the pharmacy with Simon Yu, busy working on the False Death Elixir. Thanks to the journal they found from Dr. Leonard Lin, they had made great progress in restoring the formula.
When Quentin Lin slipped inside, he heard his father scolding Simon Yu: "Simon, you spend all day running to the Lin Residence. It's one thing to treat White Lily—that's a tough case—but what are you doing otherwise? Every day you check the peace pulse for Sean Hayes's wife! Peace pulse! Peace pulse! Is that really the work of a Lin Family heir? If word gets out, our family's reputation will be ruined!"
Dr. Rowan Lin wore a look of disappointment, poking Simon Yu on the forehead as he lectured.
Simon Yu knew he was in the wrong and shrank his head, not daring to argue. If his master found out that Sean Hayes kept threatening to accuse him of misconduct, his master might actually kill him.
