Men, Huh

Dr. Rowan Lin clearly thought routine pregnancy check-ups were beneath him. The more he ranted, the more dramatic he got: "Doctors in the Lin family only deal with the tricky stuff—the cases everyone else botches! Any old physician can handle a simple check-up. Why do you insist on wasting your talent on something so basic, huh?"

Simon Yu tried to shrink into his collar, clutching his forehead, convinced his scalp was about to get poked into oblivion by his mentor.

Just as Dr. Lin was hitting his stride with the lecture, Quentin Lin barreled in, wrapped himself around Dr. Lin’s leg, and wailed, "Dad, Dad! Lily’s asleep again in the middle of the day! Mom says you have to check on her and the baby—make sure everything’s okay!"

Dr. Lin snapped to attention, forgetting all about scolding Simon. He grabbed Quentin’s hand, saying, "Alright, Quentin, let’s hurry—don’t keep your mom waiting!"

With that, Dr. Lin hauled Quentin along, snatched up his medical kit, and jogged straight out the door.

Simon clutched his head, staring in disbelief as he chased after them. "Master, didn’t you say Lin family doctors don’t do routine pregnancy check-ups? Why are you running faster than a rabbit now?!"

Dr. Lin spat back, "You little rascal! Your teacher’s wife told me to check on her daughter—do you think I’d dare say no? You’re single, no girlfriend, so you just don’t get it!"

Simon clutched his chest, feeling utterly defeated: Seriously, did being single offend you? That’s it—I need to find someone fast, before I get force-fed more couple drama and roasted every day!

Dr. Lin and Quentin arrived at the Lin estate, where Lily was still sound asleep in her room.

Margaret Evans sat by the bedside. Seeing Dr. Lin arrive, she hurried over, "Darling, come take a look at Lily—she’s been sleeping all day, like she can’t get enough rest. Is something wrong with her health?"

Margaret—ever the commanding missus—gave the order, and Dr. Rowan Lin hurried over to check Lily’s pulse.

Lily was sound asleep, blissfully unaware that her parents and little brother were huddled together in the room, fretting over her.

After checking Lily’s pulse, Dr. Lin finally relaxed and said, "She’s fine—both Lily and the baby are healthy. Every woman experiences pregnancy differently: some get really sick, others just want to nap. Lily isn’t much for vomiting, but she sure loves her sleep. Nothing to worry about."

"Thank goodness!" Margaret pressed a hand to her chest. "I nearly had a heart attack just now."

Seeing how anxious Margaret was, Dr. Lin quickly rubbed her back to comfort her. "Darling, if it’ll put your mind at ease, I’ll be home every day to check Lily’s pulse and make sure she’s doing well. How does that sound?"

"Really? That would be wonderful! With Lily’s doctor dad looking after her, I can finally relax." Margaret beamed.

Seeing his darling wife smile, Dr. Lin felt a rush of pride and promptly declared himself responsible for Lily’s daily wellness checks.

Quentin Lin, lurking nearby, shot his dad a sly look and muttered inwardly: Just a minute ago, you scolded Simon Yu for giving people daily wellness checks and swore no one in the Lin family would ever do such a thing. Now look at you—signing up for the job yourself. Men, huh!

With Lily still fast asleep, her parents didn’t dare disturb her. They quietly left the room to head back to the Lin estate. But just as they stepped out, Margaret spotted Sam Evans, pale-faced and hurrying their way.

"Huh? What’s Sam doing here? Didn’t he just move in with Lana and Jasper?" Margaret wondered, eyeing Sam Evans with growing curiosity.
