Meeting an Old Acquaintance and Rescuing Him
"What kind of thing is that to say? Seriously," Evan Yang said, feeling a bit annoyed.
"Just joking around. Now that you've reached early Divine Spirit, what's your plan?" Ye Chen said with a grin.
"Plan? I was thinking about going into closed-door seclusion again, but who knows when I'd break through. Might as well head out for a walk. But before I leave, I need to refine that Immortal artifact first," Evan Yang said after thinking for a moment.
"Alright, you go ahead and fuse it. I'll wait for you in the tower," Ye Chen replied.
"That's right. Anyone who didn't get out in time was left behind in Hundred-Change Valley. Whether they died or what, nobody knows, but rumor has it no one survives. So anyone who didn't make it out was never seen again," Ye Chen replied.
He took out the men's armor and started refining it. With the Sacred Flame's help, refining anything was easy—this was the thing Evan Yang enjoyed most.
Evan Yang snapped back and said, "You stay here, I'll go take a look outside."
"Be careful," Ye Chen and Winter said together. Evan Yang nodded, then left the tower and continued flying east.
After flying for a few days, Evan Yang finally saw the shoreline and exclaimed with delight, "I finally made it to land!"
Evan Yang quickly stepped onto the shore, glanced at the lake water, and muttered, "Just where is Thunder Lake Isle, and who were those two, anyway?"
After thinking for a long time without figuring it out, Evan Yang finally left the shore and flew outward. After a few days, he saw the layer of white mist again. "It still formed after all," he muttered.
Not only that, Evan Yang saw many corpses lying at the edge of the mist.
"Are these all the ones who didn't get out in time?" Evan Yang murmured.
Faced with this situation, Evan Yang fell into deep thought. Just as he was thinking, the white mist started moving toward him.
"It can move?" Evan Yang was shocked.
He quickly retreated, but the mist seemed to latch onto him, instantly enveloping his whole body.
"Damn it." Just as Evan Yang cursed, the mist suddenly erupted with thunder and lightning, and a surge of electric current shot through his body.
The electric current was incredibly strong. Evan Yang felt his whole body go numb and he couldn't move at all, until the current crackled its way into his Divine Spirit region (the core area where a cultivator's soul and spiritual power reside), then entered the Spirit-God wall (the boundary of the Divine Spirit, acting as a shield and power source) and merged with his lightning attribute.
"Absorbing again?" Evan Yang didn't dare keep absorbing it. If the lightning turned out stronger than the other two attributes and threw things out of balance, he'd be in trouble.
So Evan Yang tried to leave the mist zone. At first he couldn't move, just like on the surface of Thunder Lake, but soon his body regained mobility, and a green mist began drifting inside him.
"Done. Time to bolt." Evan Yang flashed through the mist zone in a blink. The lightning chased after him, but his body acted like an energy field that just kept absorbing it.
Afraid his body would get overloaded with lightning and throw his Divine Spirit out of balance, he didn't dare linger. After flying for a few more hours, he finally escaped the mist with a splash.
Looking back at the white mist behind him, Evan Yang felt lucky. "Good thing my body is so weird," he said to himself.
After a short rest, Evan Yang let Ye Chen out.
When Ye Chen saw they were outside Hundred-Change Valley, she asked suspiciously, "How did you get out?"
Evan Yang explained what happened when he crossed the mist. After hearing it, Ye Chen asked skeptically, "You're really not afraid of that stuff?"
"Why? Is it really that scary?" Evan Yang pointed at the mist.
"Of course! For the past hundred years, that mist has kept everyone out. Once you go in, you never come out. Nobody knows why, but based on what you said, it must be the lightning killing people," Ye Chen replied.
"Maybe it really is lightning killing them." Evan Yang said with an awkward smile. If his body wasn't so weird, he'd have been paralyzed and electrocuted too.
"Freak." Ye Chen had officially labeled Evan Yang a total freak after seeing all his actions.
Evan vanished, leaving the tower behind.
"If you keep running, you're dead!" Three men chased after another man, shouting.
The middle-aged man was covered in blood, cursing through clenched teeth, "I’m not stopping!"
"You really want to die?" one of them sneered.
"Pah! You hypocrites!" the man shot back.
"As a junior, it’s only right to honor your elders with gifts!" the eldest of them scoffed.
"I worked hard for this. No way I’m handing it over!" the man retorted.
"You’re only late Out-of-Body Realm—a stage where the soul can leave the body and travel independently, but still far from true mastery. Having this thing won’t do you any good. Elder Rong already knows—he told you to hand it over quietly. Otherwise, you know the consequences. Even if you leave the sect, what about your junior sister? You’d better think carefully," one threatened.
"You bastards! What happened to Xiaomei?" the man shouted angrily.
"Want to know? Then hand it over and come back with us. Pretend nothing happened—you’ll get to see your junior sister," one of them smirked.

"You...!" The man was torn—if he handed it over, he’d die; if not, his beloved would perish.
"Just hand it over," seeing his hesitation, the three quickly surrounded the wounded man.
Seeing he was surrounded, the man stopped running. He glared at them, "Dream on! If I die, I’ll take you with me!"
"Take us with you? In your dreams!" Another waved his hand, and a stone pillar slammed into the wounded man’s waist, worsening his injuries and spilling more blood.
Clutching his wound, the man pointed at the three, "I’ll drag you down with me!" He began to ignite his own cultivation, preparing to self-destruct—a desperate move often used by cultivators when cornered.
Just then, a figure appeared beside him. The man was startled: "You—"
"Long time no see," Evan Yang said.
The man was about to speak when one of the three shouted, "Kid, you’ve got a death wish? Daring to meddle in Huang Immortal Sect’s business?"
"Huang Immortal Sect?" Evan felt it was familiar—he remembered the earth arts user was from this sect, and these men used stone pillars, too.
"You joined Huang Immortal Sect?" Evan had figured out from their conversation they were fellow disciples.
"Heh, you’d better leave. These guys are tough," the man glanced at Evan like an old acquaintance, but shook his head helplessly, thinking about their strength.
Evan smiled at the three, "Relax, they won’t touch you."
"Who are you, kid? So arrogant!" One shouted, the other two exchanged looks—was he tired of living?
"I’m his hometown friend. If he’s in trouble, of course I’ll help. Right?" Evan grinned.
"Hometown friend? Pah! Who cares? Let’s kill him first!" One scoffed, motioning the others to attack Evan.
Seeing the three rush forward, the wounded man cried, "Run!"
"Don’t worry. Let’s deal with them first," Evan said with a smile.
As the three prepared to cast spells, Evan moved.
The wounded man only heard three miserable screams and the thud of bodies—he didn’t even see what happened.
"Dead?" The man was shocked—the three were killed by Evan in a single move, hard to believe.
"Don’t talk. Let me treat you." Evan checked him—the stone pillar had caused serious injury. Evan used spiritual power, a form of cultivated energy, to heal his wounds.
The man watched as Evan’s hand sent spiritual power into his body, gradually restoring him.
When he’d mostly recovered, the man smiled awkwardly, "Didn’t expect your cultivation to soar since coming here."
"Seeing an old friend makes me happy, too. Back then, the star teleportation array broke, and we got lost in space. I was so excited to see you just now," Evan laughed.
The man felt the same—though he wasn’t close with Evan on their old continent, they were from the same place.
This was Lan Xuan, the Blue Clan genius who came with Evan. Over the years, he’d only advanced from early to late Out-of-Body Realm—a stage where the soul can leave the body—while Evan had left him far behind, making him feel a bit down.
"What’s wrong? Not happy to see me?" Evan asked, seeing Lan Xuan looking a little lost.
"Sigh, it’s not that. We came here together—I thought we’d make a splash, but..." Lan Xuan sighed, feeling his years here were just miserable.
"Tell me—how’d you end up in Huang Immortal Sect? And what was all that about just now?" Evan asked curiously.
Lan Xuan thought for a moment, then told Evan how he’d gotten lost in space after messing up the array, and everything that happened since.
After hearing it all, Evan had to admire this resilient man—once high and mighty, now living the opposite, a drastic fall.
