"He’s completely lucid. Is that how a possessed killer would act?" the elder asked Mason Meng.
Mason Meng examined the mark and said, "Let’s find him and confirm what happened."
"If you don’t believe me, just follow along and see for yourself," the elder said. Mason naturally followed the elder toward Spirit-End Valley.
Evan Yang was only a short distance from Spirit-End Valley when the elder and Mason Meng appeared behind him, just as he was about to enter.
Evan hadn’t expected the elder to arrive so quickly, and with Mason Meng in tow. When Mason saw that Evan wasn’t out of control, he grinned and said, "See, Evan? I told you you’d be fine."
"What’s up?" Evan asked, curious at Mason’s tone.
Mason chuckled, "He said you were possessed by the Cloud Parasite, killed Hugh Hu, and left a mark only the Cloud could leave."
Evan laughed when he heard this. "So that’s what this is about. I did kill him, but I wasn’t out of control—I wanted to kill him myself."
Mason’s smile faded. "Why?"
"You should ask the elder. He sent his disciple to round up some outsiders to ambush me, but they weren’t strong enough and got killed instead. As for the mark, that was on purpose," Evan said with a smile.
Hearing this, Mason Meng turned to the elder. "Elder Li, did you really send people after Evan Yang?"
"I have no idea what happened. As for my disciple, he never told me anything about it." The elder was left speechless; he hadn’t expected Evan to be unharmed and acting normal, with no excuse to attack him.
"So it wasn’t your doing, Elder. I really did misunderstand you—sorry about that," Evan said with a smile.
Left with no comeback, the elder could only mutter, "So I misunderstood you. Let’s just leave it at that for now." With that, he turned and left in a flash.
Watching the elder storm off, Evan felt a rush of satisfaction. If not for Mason Meng’s presence, the elder would’ve definitely attacked him regardless of reason.
"Thanks, Mason. Otherwise, I don’t know what would’ve happened," Evan said gratefully.
"Don’t mention it. It’s what I should do," Mason replied.
"Well, I’m heading in now," Evan said, looking toward Spirit-End Valley.
"Go on," Mason nodded, then watched Evan leave.
Evan composed himself and headed into Spirit-End Valley. Seeing Evan enter, Mason finally relaxed—after all, no one but Evan could enter the valley. Even if the elder wanted him dead, there was nothing he could do.
