Arriving at the Bar

2/14/2026

Evan Lin shot a cold glance at Ryan Cao, who was yelling in their direction. His expression was indifferent, but under that icy stare, Ryan suddenly felt his breath catch, panic rising in his chest and cold sweat breaking out on his back.

For a split second, he felt as if death itself was looming over him.

"Buckle up."

Evan said coolly, shifted gears, released the handbrake, and then slammed on the gas.

In an instant, the whole car shot forward like a bullet, accelerating crazily.

"Ah!"

The woman in the passenger seat turned pale with fright at Evan's speed.

"Ryan, what's wrong?"

In the Audi, the woman next to Ryan Cao noticed his sudden pallor and was startled.

"N-Nothing. I'm fine."

Ryan Cao finally caught his breath. For a moment there, he thought he was about to be killed—he could barely breathe from the pressure.

"Looks like that kid's really heading for Northstar Bar? Is he not afraid of dying?" The woman frowned and said, "And lately, the Ding family has been stirring up trouble with that underground boxing championship. The whole city's talking about it—no idea what they're after."

"That's not for us to discuss. We just need to mind our own business. But I should call Carter and let him know what's up."

Ryan Cao took a deep breath, picked up his phone, and dialed a number.

...

"Where are you driving? You're going way too fast! Ah!"

Evan kept his foot on the gas the whole time, never letting up for a second.

The speedometer shot from 20 km/h straight to 180 km/h. With the car tearing down the road at breakneck speed, it felt like the whole vehicle was about to lift off.

"Aren't we going to Northstar Bar?"

Evan's gaze stayed calm and indifferent.

Suddenly, a beam of light flashed across their path.

A fully loaded dump truck was barreling toward them from the opposite direction.

The two vehicles were about to meet head-on.

"Careful, careful, careful! Ahhh!"

Yinnie stared in horror at the oncoming dump truck, watching helplessly as they were about to crash. Her face turned ghostly pale and she instinctively squeezed her eyes shut.

Just a split second before impact, Evan Lin tapped the brakes, shifted gears, and spun the steering wheel. In the blink of an eye, he maneuvered the car at the perfect angle, narrowly missing the dump truck.

Yinnie, eyes squeezed shut in the passenger seat, waited for what felt like forever.

She thought this was it—she was going to die in a car crash. With both vehicles speeding toward each other, their combined speed had to be over three hundred kilometers per hour.

At that kind of speed, most people wouldn’t even have time to react.

But when she finally opened her eyes, the dump truck was nowhere to be seen.

"Are you a professional race car driver?"

Yinnie stared wide-eyed at Evan Lin, her gaze full of curiosity and disbelief.

"Nope. This is my first time driving."

Evan's answer earned him a dramatic eye-roll from Yinnie.

"I hate to say it, but I think you’re going the wrong way. Northstar Bar isn’t in this direction!"

Yinnie paused for a moment before finally speaking up.

Evan blinked, then casually whipped the car around with a perfect 180-degree drift, making Yinnie’s heart leap into her throat all over again.

"Sorry, it’s my first time here. You’ll have to guide me."

Watching Evan say this like it was the most normal thing in the world, Yinnie was left utterly speechless.
