Sudden Incident

2/14/2026

In the darkness, Lucian Vane's stunningly beautiful face looked just as black as the night itself.

"Do you even have a conscience? You want me to let go?" Lucian snapped, totally ignoring how miserable Ivy Shen looked right now.

"Ow, my arm's about to break! Aren't you supposed to know martial arts? Just jump down already!" Is this snake seriously insane?!

"I don't know martial arts!" Lucian answered, clearly annoyed, as he saw Ivy's desperate, disgusted look—she just wanted to toss him off.

"Didn't you fly out of the carriage last time? How could you not know martial arts? Ugh, whatever, just let go already! If I don't die from falling, you'll drag me to death!" Damn, why is this guy so heavy?!

Seeing this, Lucian finally realized this woman was totally heartless. He frowned, annoyed, and slid his green tail out from below, slowly looping it around the railing in front of Ivy. What he didn't expect was that this little 'self-rescue' move would end up screwing him over.

"Holy crap, a giant python!" The green serpent tail accidentally brushed Ivy's arm, making her break out in goosebumps. Even though she kept telling herself, "It's a snake, it's a snake," seeing a thick green tail suddenly appear in the dead of night—right next to her arm—would freak anyone out.

So...

Unluckily, the fright made her head spin, and she collapsed straight into Lucian's arms—dragging both of them down together.

Actually, Lucian's martial arts were top-notch. Even in a situation like this, he could've landed lightly while holding her, or just flown up with her using his qi. But sadly, Ivy was impossible to predict, so everything always went the opposite of what he expected. Like right now...

"Ahhh, am I poisoned? Am I poisoned or what?!"

"Let go, you crazy woman! You're covering my eyes, stop clutching my head!" Lucian never expected Ivy to freak out this much. Collapsing on top of him was bad enough, but now her hands were all over his handsome face, and—worst of all—she was kicking his tail so hard he couldn't even focus his qi.

With a loud crash, the two of them hit the ground—hard. Ivy landed squarely on top of Lucian, pinning him down.

Lucian's waist ached a bit, but for someone who practiced martial arts all the time, this height was nothing. The real tragedy was his face, now sore from all the pinching and smushing. Still, he decided this was the perfect chance to teach her a lesson and make her worry for once.

A few seconds later, Ivy scrambled up, glancing left and right. Once she confirmed she wasn't hurt, she finally let out a sigh of relief.

Turning back, Ivy saw Lucian's tail had already turned back into legs. She boldly squatted in front of him, worriedly asking, "Hey, Poison Snake, are you okay?"

"..."

"Poison Snake, Poison Snake... Oh my god, you're not dead, are you?" Seeing Lucian completely silent, Ivy started to panic. She immediately reached out to check if he was breathing.

"Wake up, Poison Snake! You can't be this fragile, right?" Ivy shook him anxiously, but Lucian didn't react at all. Seeing this, Ivy started pressing on his chest, panicked. "Don't die! If you die, I'll be a murderer!"

Ugh, that hurts. What is this crazy woman doing—trying to crush me to death?

"What do I do, what do I do? Did I kill someone? Did I actually kill someone?!" Ivy freaked out, stopping the chest compressions. Even if there was the tiniest hope, she couldn't give up! She took a deep breath—okay, time for mouth-to-mouth.

Without a second thought, she bent down and pressed her lips to Lucian's, trying to give him mouth-to-mouth.

But just as she lifted her head for another breath and leaned in to continue, she suddenly saw Lucian staring at her with wide, astonished eyes...
