Sylas Ren saw the guarded look in Roxy Shangguan's eyes. His mouth twitched several times before he finally shouted, "I like women!"
"Oh..." Roxy nodded, reaching out her little hand to wipe away sweat that wasn't really there from her forehead, and said, "You should've said so earlier! I was worried for nothing!"
Quentin Hua's eyes were full of amusement. He glanced at Sylas Ren and said slowly, "It seems you really are quite effeminate."
"Effeminate?" Sylas Ren jumped up, pointing angrily at Quentin Hua. "You, you monster, have the nerve to call me effeminate? Have you looked at your own face...?"
Before he could finish, Roxy Shangguan smiled and said to Quentin Hua, "Quincy, he's actually complimenting your looks."
Quentin Hua nodded calmly. "Everyone thinks so."
Sylas Ren gazed speechlessly at the sky. Had anyone ever seen someone so full of themselves? Though the Lotus Sect Master's beauty was renowned, was it really appropriate for him to say it himself?
Kathy Ren shook her head repeatedly. Sigh... How could her son be so clueless? He couldn't even handle a little child—truly embarrassing!
Unable to win against the two, Sylas Ren cut to the chase, "Quentin Hua, where's my father? Is he playing the little emperor again...?"
Evan Hua's mouth twitched as he glared, "You brat, what do you mean 'little emperor'? Emperor is emperor—why add the 'little'?"
Sylas Ren pouted, "Isn't the emperor of a small kingdom called a 'little emperor'? And he's such an irresponsible little emperor! Disappearing every few days—the ministers are already at their wits' end, but they can't do anything about him."
Actually, this just proves how capable Evan Hua is!
Ignoring Evan Hua, Sylas Ren continued speaking to Quentin Hua, "I don't want to be emperor. A wanderer should be free! But my inconsiderate father, so young and already wanting to abdicate and dump all the responsibility on me—I sometimes wonder if I'm really his biological son. Otherwise, how could he care so little about me?"
Evan Hua felt a bit guilty and kept quiet. He'd never had any interest in the throne; to him, it was nothing but a shackle. He had originally gone looking for Charles Hua just to hand the throne to him, but Charles turned out to be wholly unfit for the role. So Evan had to take over himself. Luckily, his son seemed decent enough now, so he could retire early.
Roxy Shangguan nodded her little head, suddenly enlightened. "Your father wants to pass the burden to you, but you don't want to take it, so you came to frame Quincy?" With that, she glared fiercely at Sylas Ren, as if she wanted to eat him alive.
Sylas Ren awkwardly rubbed his nose and whispered, "How is it framing? There are lots of perks to being emperor. Even if Huayi Kingdom is just a vassal of Silvermoon, it's still being emperor! Actually, if the Hua family ever had any ambition, Huayi Kingdom wouldn't have ended up like this. In the end, it's all because the descendants of the Hua family never strive for anything!"
Roxy Shangguan snorted coldly. "If it's so great, why don't you do it yourself?"
Sylas Ren muttered weakly, "I just don't like it, okay?"
Roxy Shangguan shot him a sideways glance and snorted, "Then what makes you think Quincy would like it?"
Sylas Ren was speechless. Wasn't he just trying to talk it over?
Quentin Hua looked at Roxy Shangguan's adorable expression, amusement filling his eyes. Seeing Sylas Ren about to say something more, he interrupted, "I have no interest in the throne."
That single sentence deflated Sylas Ren, but he still refused to give up. "Won't you reconsider? There are so many perks to being emperor. Huayi Kingdom is rich, the palace is full of rare treasures, and being emperor is so prestigious..." Sylas tried every trick to tempt Quentin Hua, but no matter what he said, Quentin remained unmoved.
Roxy Shangguan glared at him and said with disdain, "Handle your own business. Even I understand that!" She sighed, looking at him with pity. "You should just accept your fate!"
"Heh..." Quentin Hua chuckled softly and pinched her cute little cheek. Why did she seem a bit like a housekeeper? Always rushing to the front, like a mother hen protecting her chicks. Did he really look like someone who needed protecting?
His smile deepened. Honestly, this feeling was wonderful—truly wonderful!
Kathy Ren watched her son, who wanted to speak but hesitated, knowing there was no hope yet unable to give up. She shook her head and sighed. Her poor son! Was this hereditary? Why did none of the Hua family seem to want the throne?
In fact, before Sylas Ren even spoke, Kathy Ren hadn't held out much hope. Quentin Hua was simply too much like Evan Hua—not just in looks, but in temperament and the feeling he gave others. So she knew Quentin wouldn't be interested in the throne either.
For the next two days, Sylas Ren kept hovering around Quentin Hua and Roxy Shangguan, trying every argument to persuade Quentin. But most of the time, all he got was Roxy's eye rolls, and Quentin couldn't even be bothered to respond anymore.
Finally, Roxy Shangguan couldn't take it anymore and said, "If you and Quincy switched places, would you agree?"
"Of course not." Sylas Ren's lifeless reply made it clear he had finally given up hope.
Evan Hua and Kathy Ren also moved into Hua Mansion, saying they wanted to bond with Quentin Hua. But in reality, the two spent all their time together and barely showed up in front of Quentin.
After two days, they learned a lot about the Hua family. Evan Hua couldn't help but sigh—if he hadn't been so disappointed in the Hua family back then, and had come back for just one look, maybe Quentin wouldn't have suffered so much. But now, nothing could change the past. In his heart, Quentin was now on equal footing with Sylas Ren; Evan genuinely liked Quentin, whose temperament suited him perfectly!
Is this another form of narcissism, perhaps?
The first thing Charles Hua did after waking up was to visit Quentin Hua. He had only one daughter, Wendy Hua, and had always wanted a son. Unfortunately, his wife was never able to give him one. Now, upon learning Quentin was his biological son, he was overjoyed and brought all the best things to Quentin. But Quentin, cold as ever, treated him like a stranger. He only kept the gifts he liked and sent the rest back.
