You Were the Only One Still Sitting in the Stands
Ethan Xu spoke in a calm tone.
After he said this, everyone turned to look at Eldest Brother Su.
Eldest Brother Su looked somewhat troubled.
Evan Lin really did come today—he’d specially sent Blade to pick him up. But Eldest Brother Su honestly couldn’t figure out what Evan was thinking, and with his personality, it didn’t seem likely he’d bother giving face to any so-called Old Master Xu.
Eldest Brother Su was afraid something might go wrong.
“What’s wrong, Old Su? Old Master Xu is giving your company’s new instructor a lot of face by wanting to meet him. Why do you still look unhappy?” Major General Gavin Yue chuckled.
“Yeah, just have your company’s instructor come over. That shouldn’t be a big deal, right?” Colonel Sean Chen snorted coldly, his expression unfriendly.
“Old Master Xu, it’s not that I don’t want him to come. He really is here today, but this instructor has a pretty cold personality and isn’t very mature when it comes to dealing with people. I’m honestly worried he might say or do something wrong and offend you.” Eldest Brother Su forced a bitter smile, struggling with his words.
“My grandpa isn’t that petty,” Lena Xu interjected at that moment.
“Mm. If someone really has talent, a little arrogance is understandable. I’m not some stubborn old fogey—just curious, that’s all.” Old Master Xu nodded.
Lena Xu was still leaning by the window, watching the matches down in the ring.
The fighters up there were quick and decisive, every punch slicing through the air.
Most of the people on stage were standouts from various companies. While they couldn’t compare to the special forces matches Lena Xu had seen in Beijing, they still had their own kind of excitement.
“In that case, I’ll go ask him and see if he’s willing to come over.” Eldest Brother Su gritted his teeth, as if making some big decision, and nodded.
Soon, Eldest Brother Su headed out the door.
“Who is this guy, anyway, that he needs to be asked in person? What kind of instructor has that much attitude?” Lena Xu muttered, a bit dissatisfied.
“He’s got plenty of attitude, all right—and he’s not exactly a good person. Later, Lena, you’d better stay away from him.” Colonel Sean Chen chimed in at just the right moment, calling Lena by name with a kindly smile, almost like a caring elder.
“I’m not afraid of bad people—I’ve got Brother Yuan to protect me!” Lena Xu grinned, looking up at Grant Yuan with open admiration.
Grant Yuan kept his face steady, showing no reaction—cool and collected as always.
Meanwhile, Major General Gavin Yue and the others sipped tea and chatted, watching the matches.
Five matches had already finished down below. Most of the fights looked exciting, but honestly, some were hard to watch.
Eldest Brother Su walked out, planning to go straight to the stands and invite Evan Lin in person.
But halfway there, he reconsidered and pulled out his phone to call Blade instead.
Today’s Single-Soldier Showdown had eyes on it from all directions.
If he, as deputy regimental commander, personally went to the stands to invite Evan Lin, it might not actually be a good thing for Evan.
Eldest Brother Su was grateful to Evan Lin and didn’t want to drag him into more trouble.
Eldest Brother Su got through to Blade and had him pass the phone to Evan Lin.
“Master Lin, are you available to come upstairs for a moment? There’s someone here who’d like to meet you, and you’ll have a better view of the whole ring from up here.” Eldest Brother Su tried to offer reasons. “Also, one of the guests today is a former instructor from the Tiger Special Forces. What do you think…?”
Eldest Brother Su held his breath, listening intently for any sound on the other end, afraid to miss a word.
The other end was so quiet, not even a breath could be heard, making Eldest Brother Su even more nervous.
After a long pause—
“Okay.”
Evan Lin finally spoke.
Hearing Evan’s agreement, Eldest Brother Su instantly relaxed. “I’ll have Blade bring you over. I’ll be waiting at the door.”
Soon, Blade led Evan Lin up from his seat and toward the stairs.
From the moment Evan Lin got up and left, almost no one noticed—everyone was caught up in the action on the ring.
Plenty of soldiers cheered loudly, rooting for their own.
Evan Lin walked at an easy pace. The fights in the ring didn’t interest him; he was here to see Tiger Fang’s skills, and to check on the current strength of Blade One through Blade Five.
Eldest Brother Su had already been waiting by the door. When he saw Evan Lin approach, he hurried over. “Master!”
“Mm.” Evan Lin glanced at him and nodded in greeting.
Seeing Evan Lin like this, Eldest Brother Su could only smile wryly.
If Blade hadn’t gone to Jingzhou No. 1 High School to pick up Evan Lin several times, Eldest Brother Su might have doubted whether this young man was really just a teenager.
The calm and mature air about him was more composed than many who’d lived for decades.
“I’ll take you in. Please, just try to keep a low profile,” Eldest Brother Su pleaded.
But seeing Evan Lin’s indifferent attitude, Eldest Brother Su could only sigh, knowing more words would be useless.
Blade didn’t go in, waiting outside instead.
Eldest Brother Su stood at the door, took a deep breath. He’d weathered a lot in his forty-plus years, but he hadn’t felt this nervous in ages.
He reached out and pushed open the door in front of him.
“Please.”
Eldest Brother Su didn’t dare be presumptuous—he wouldn’t walk in before Evan Lin.
Evan Lin stepped forward and entered.
Inside the room—
Hearing the door open, Xu Shifeng and the others all turned to look.
Lena Xu, who’d been absorbed in watching the fights, also turned to look.
Everyone thought Eldest Brother Su would be the first to come in.
But to their surprise, it was a young man who entered first, while Su—the famed deputy regimental commander of the Southern Military District—was the one opening the door for him.
Many people were taken aback.
For most, this was their first time seeing Evan Lin.
Colonel Sean Chen’s face darkened, his eyes full of anger as he stared at Evan Lin.
Major General Gavin Yue frowned. The deputy commander of the Southern Military District personally opening the door for a youngster—this wasn’t just about Su; it affected the reputation of the entire district!
No matter what, a military officer shouldn’t be giving so much face to some unknown kid, right?
At the same time, Xu Shifeng and Grant Yuan both looked at Evan Lin.
Xu Shifeng’s eyes were thoughtful, while Grant Yuan narrowed his gaze.
Lena Xu couldn’t help blurting out, “Wow, you must have some serious pull—Deputy Commander Su opened the door for you? And when Grandpa came in earlier, weren’t you the only one still sitting in the stands?”
