Saving a Life

Serena Feng had no idea what these two officials were thinking. Then again, even if she did, she wouldn’t care—and right now, she had no time to care.

Because as soon as she stepped out the door, she realized she was being watched again.

Outside the Feng residence, plenty of young servants and maids loitered, sneaking glances at her as if they were thieves.

Whenever their eyes met Serena’s, they’d quickly look away, uneasy.

Again and again...

The whole scene made it seem like she was some kind of monster.

Serena let out a bitter laugh.

Honestly, she probably couldn’t even compare to a monster.

At least when monsters were put on display, people paid admission. But her?

She was just there for people to gawk at and judge for free.

All these maids and servants had been sent by their masters to watch Serena’s humiliation and report back for entertainment.

Right now, Serena Feng was the imperial capital’s biggest joke—a headline scandal.

These days, if you went to a party or a garden stroll and couldn’t gossip about Serena Feng’s latest scandal, you were out of the loop.

Especially with officials showing up at the Feng residence, the crowd was several times larger than usual—people practically wanted to stare a hole through her.

Serena wasn’t surprised to step outside and find this scene waiting for her.

There would always be people who took pleasure in watching others fail, picking at their wounds for sport.

Serena swept her gaze over the crowd, nodded politely, and ignored their stares and mocking looks, walking confidently behind the officials.

Let them treat her like a monster—so what?

She, Serena Feng, didn’t steal or rob; she had a clear conscience. Why should she fear the world’s pointing fingers?

Fine, she felt a bit uncomfortable inside, but she’d adjust. After all, if these people wanted to see her make a fool of herself, they were in for disappointment.
