Lucky Goes Hunting in the Mountains

Lily Evans couldn't help but giggle. During the day, he looked all serious and proper, but at night, once they hit the bed, he turned into a total charmer. And with that handsome face of his, Lily was left utterly powerless, unable to resist his antics.

"Alright, one last kiss." Lily ruffled his hair and planted a big kiss on his forehead.

Lucky's eyes instantly lit up. Feeling completely satisfied, he hugged Lily tightly. "Wife, Mark Hunter asked me to go hunting in the mountains with him. Can I go?"

"What got you interested in hunting all of a sudden?" Lily nuzzled against Lucky's chin.

"Mark Hunter says there are lots of wild game deep in the mountains—stuff you can't get outside. I want to bring some back for you to try. He also said that wearing animal skins in winter is super warm and comfy, and I don't want you to be cold, so I want to hunt extra pelts to make you cozy clothes. Plus, Mark Hunter says there are rare herbs up there that are really good for you. I've learned a bit about herbs from Dr. Wu, so I want to dig up some ginseng and polygonum for you to eat." Lucky rambled on with his eyes closed, full of all the things he wanted to do for Lily.

Lily listened with a gentle smile, her heart warmed. Even though their family was well-off now and never worried about food or money, Lucky's thoughtfulness truly touched her.

"Alright, go ahead. Just make sure you listen to Mark Hunter when you're in the mountains—he's an experienced hunter, got it?" Lily relented; how could she say no to Lucky's little wishes?

"Thank you, wife!" Lucky's eyes sparkled. He mumbled, "Dr. Wu says ginseng is good for you, and then you can have a chubby baby..."

Lily sighed and held her forehead. What on earth has Dr. Wu been teaching Lucky!?

The next day, Lucky went to discuss the hunting trip with Mark Hunter. Mark had all the bows, arrows, and spears ready, and he soon arrived at Lily's house with the hunting gear.

"Lily, I can't thank you enough." Mark Hunter hurried over to thank her as soon as he saw her, lowering his voice, "The shop and house I bought at Ten Mile Slope made a killing!"

Lily grinned, "Now that you’ve got a house and money, Mark Hunter, all you’re missing is a wife! So, when are you bringing a sister-in-law home?"

Mark Hunter blushed, fiddling with his bow and arrows. He murmured, "I’m heading into the mountains to hunt, and then I’ll propose..."

Lily burst out laughing, covering her mouth. "So this hunting trip is for your betrothal gifts, huh? How are things going between you two?"

Mark Hunter’s face turned even redder. He lowered his head, "Once I’m back, I’ll go propose."

Mark Hunter was always steady and reliable. If he said he’d go propose, he must have already discussed it with the Wu family. Lately, the way Wu Caiwei looked at him was definitely different.

Just thinking about these two getting together made Lily so happy that she put together a feast.

Mark Hunter and Lucky both changed into hunter’s gear for easier movement. Lucky carried a bow and arrows on his back and held a spear in his hand, looking quite heroic.

Since Mark Hunter was hunting for his betrothal gifts, they needed to go deep into the mountains to look for big game. The trip would take at least four or five days, maybe up to seven or eight. Lily packed plenty of dried meat and water for Lucky.

"Wife, wait for me to bring back lots of good stuff!" Lucky looked at Lily, reluctant to leave.

"Be careful out there. Mark Hunter, I’m counting on you to look after Lucky." Lily said.

Mark Hunter grinned, "Don’t worry, sis. I’ll make sure your husband comes back safe and sound."

The two men set off. That night, Lily lay on the empty bed, missing her silly, kiss-demanding husband more than ever.

Unknowingly, that man had already settled into her heart, leaving his mark there.

Two days passed. Life at home was as usual for Lily, but she couldn’t shake off a vague sense of unease, as if something was about to happen.
