Abbot William Wise Will Never Come

"Maybe? Is this the kind of thing you can just say 'maybe he'll come' about?" Grace Wan's voice was sharp, her smile full of sarcasm. "Just what kind of earth-shattering event do you think this is? You actually dare to invite Abbot William Wise? If word gets out, won't people laugh at our Prime Minister's Residence for being so clueless?"

Lena paused for a moment and said, "Then what if I say, he will definitely come?"

Grace Wan was momentarily speechless, then forced a smile after a long pause. "If Madam insists, what more can I say?"

Lena looked at the Dowager Lady and said, "Mother, I had some acquaintance with Abbot William Wise years ago. He will definitely come. Please trust me."

Dowager Lady Zhu was quite surprised. "Really? If you truly can invite Abbot William Wise, it would be the greatest honor for our Prime Minister's Residence. Of course, I have no objections."

Lena nodded, "Then I'll go send a message to Abbot William Wise right away."

"Good, then we'll wait and see," said Dowager Lady Evelyn Zhu.

Grace Wan glanced at Lena with a calm expression. How could she possibly have any connection with Abbot William Wise?

Coincidentally, Leon Wan had a relative who was a monk at the Temple of Compassionate Splendor, so she asked Leon Wan to inquire.

......

Next, Lena gathered the main housekeepers, the head guards, as well as Miss Lawrence, Grace, and Grace Wan in Jade Hall to discuss matters concerning the Sacred Relic Festival.

Grace Wan kept causing trouble and contradicting everything.

But Grace and Miss Lawrence were both strong-willed, and with the Prime Minister always siding with his wife,

Despite all the bickering, everything was eventually arranged.

Later, Leon Wan came to the Prime Minister's Residence.

Lena had been ill for over ten years, so even if she had a connection with Abbot William Wise, it was from more than a decade ago.

Leon Wan's relative had only been a monk for seven or eight years and knew nothing about what happened back then.

However, he did manage to find out something else.

"...Her letter was delivered to one of Abbot William Wise's disciples," Leon Wan said. "Apparently, that disciple only replied with one sentence."

"What did he say?"

"I'll be sure to pass it on to the abbot."

"You'll be sure to pass it on to the abbot?" Grace Wan was puzzled. "Wasn't it supposed to be 'he'll definitely come'?"

For the past two days, Lena had been making all the arrangements as if Abbot William Wise was definitely coming.

"No, my relative was right there at the time. Aunt Crystal personally delivered the letter, and that's exactly what Abbot William Wise's disciple said. Then Aunt Crystal left."

"Today is the fifth day of the twelfth lunar month, and there are only three days left until the Sacred Relic Festival," Grace Wan said suspiciously. "So she still hasn't received a reply from the abbot?"

"Before coming here, I checked with my relative again. He can confirm that in the past few days, Abbot William Wise's disciple hasn't sent any further messages."

Grace Wan's mind started working. "She's really good at pretending! When she was calling everyone together for meetings, I didn't notice this at all!"

Leon Wan said, "She personally said 'Abbot William Wise will definitely come.' I guess she won't back down until the very last moment."

Grace Wan nodded, pondering, "Brother, we absolutely can't let her pull off the Sacred Relic Festival this time! Do you have any ideas?"

But Leon Wan just laughed, "You don't need to do anything. Just help her with all your heart! Invite plenty of guests and make it lively and well-organized."

"What do you mean?"

"Because Abbot William Wise is never going to come!"
