Three Lifetimes as a Beast

He’d already lost two million in public funds and couldn’t account for it. So he tried one last desperate gamble, pulling together another $2.4 million—but lost it all again. With nowhere left to turn, after three days and nights in the casino, Leon Chang’s body and mind reached their limits. He began hallucinating, and in his despair, climbed to “Ascension Corner” and jumped, ending his greedy, tragic life.

"Ah! You—you want to negotiate with this vengeful spirit!?" David Yu’s face turned ashen with fear.

"That’s right. As long as we strike a deal, he’ll help you! Don’t worry, I know how to bargain with him. Let’s go—first, we need somewhere quiet and secluded," Shawn Young said to David Yu.

"Somewhere secluded... Well, we could go to my place! It’s pretty out of the way," David Yu said, blushing.

"Oh! You actually have your own place?" Shawn Young asked curiously.

"Uh—sort of! C’mon—" David Yu scratched his bald head, grabbed the bottle, and led the way. Shawn Young and Rainie Bai followed him off the street, heading toward a little corner behind a roadside gambling den.

After winding through a maze of alleys, David Yu brought Shawn Young and Rainie Bai to an unfinished construction site. His "room" was a bare cement shell, open to the wind with no windows. The floor was covered in kraft paper and woven bags—his "luxury bed." Trash piled in the corners, chaos everywhere, the classic "street drifter style."

"Heh—this is where I usually live. Yeah, it’s rough, but a boss from Guangdong started building a luxury casino here. He gambled away all his money at Golden Mountain Casino and ran off before finishing construction. So now it’s an abandoned building, all the workers gone. The place belongs to Golden Mountain Casino, but they won’t restart work until after the New Year. No one comes here, so it’s really secluded. Whatever we do here, nobody cares," David Yu said, a little embarrassed.

Shawn Young smiled and said, "Alright, put the bottle on the floor and wait outside with Rainie. Once I’ve finished negotiating, I’ll call you in when it’s time!"

"Okay—" David Yu quickly set the bottle on the floor, then stepped outside with Rainie Bai to wait.

Once David Yu and Rainie Bai stepped out, Shawn Young quickly set up a barrier in the room. Then he uncorked the bottle and chanted, "Heaven and earth shine, sun and moon ablaze, spirits and mortals walk separate paths. By the power of yin and yang, let the soul take form—Leon Chang, reveal yourself—now!"

As Shawn Young finished his incantation, a red glow emerged from the bottle, slowly condensing in midair into a human shape. The figure took on the appearance of a middle-aged man—face pale and twisted in misery, eyes blank and lifeless, the look of someone utterly lost.

One look at the spirit and Shawn Young could tell Leon Chang had died terrified and full of regret. Shawn’s voice turned cold: "Leon Chang, your sins are grave. Soon you’ll fall into the Hell of Avici and the Hell of Tongue Pulling, suffering three days and nights of fiery torment. Are you aware of this?!"

Leon Chang—that was the middle-aged man’s name. At Shawn Young’s sharp questioning, he snapped to attention, his ghostly pale face twisting in fear. He muttered, "I know... Ox-Head and Horse-Face told me..."

"That’s the punishment for your lifetime of sins—it’s only fair! But do you realize, while your death was quick, you’ve brought misery to your family! Because of you, they’ll never be able to hold their heads high. This is your doing. Not only will you suffer in hell, you’ll be cast into the animal realm, reborn as a pig for three lifetimes, doomed to slaughter!" Shawn Young said coldly.

"What?! I’ll be a beast for three lifetimes!? How do you know? And my family—will they really be shamed because of me?" Leon Chang asked in terror.

"Why would I lie? If I can summon your soul away from Ox-Head and Horse-Face’s grasp, I know your fate. Think about it—after your scandal is exposed, will your family ever live a normal life again?" Shawn Young said icily.

Leon Chang was stunned by these words. Memories of his sinful life flashed before his eyes—he’d been a bank manager back in China, a man of status, with a wife and a beautiful daughter who’d just started working. He loved playing cards, and through friends, learned about the casinos in Mai Zayan, Myanmar. At first, he just wanted to check it out, but soon he was hooked.

Gambling ruins lives, just like drugs—once you start, it’s hard to stop. Leon Chang gambled a few times, winning and losing, the thrill addictive. Wanting more, he entered the VIP hall, where bets ranged from three thousand to three hundred thirty thousand at the top. Even so, he lost two million—and it was public money he’d embezzled!

Blinded by greed, gamblers never think straight or know when to quit. Winners want more, losers chase their losses, and only those who lose everything finally stop! Leon Chang used tricks and accounting sleight-of-hand to cover up the losses in the bank’s books.

He’d already lost two million in public funds and couldn’t explain it. So he tried one last desperate gamble, scraping together another $2.4 million—but lost it all again. With nowhere left to turn, after three days and nights in the casino, Leon Chang’s body and mind reached their limit. He began hallucinating, and in his despair, climbed to “Ascension Corner” and jumped, ending his greedy, tragic life.

The past was like smoke, yet vivid in his mind. Seeing what his gambling had led to, Leon Chang was overwhelmed with regret. He wanted to cry, but only a harsh, ghostly wail came out—newly dead spirits have no tears.

Shawn Young saw the change and knew he’d touched Leon Chang’s deepest regrets. He said, "Leon Chang, since I can seal your soul, I need your help. But don’t worry, I won’t let you suffer—tell me your unfinished business, and I’ll help as best I can! I’ll use my spiritual power and recite the Rebirth Mantra to help you transcend, reduce your sins by half, and free you from three lifetimes of suffering!"

Leon Chang was stunned, then spoke urgently, "Little brother, the ones I feel worst about are my wife and daughter. If they’re shamed because of me, I can’t bear it! If you promise to help them, even just to let them live ordinary lives without ridicule, I’ll agree to anything you ask!"

Shawn Young nodded, "I’ll do my best. But you should know, fate is already decided. I may not be able to help your wife, but I promise to look after your daughter! As long as I’m around, I won’t let her be shamed or bullied!"

Leon Chang’s face grew somber, then he nodded. "I understand—everyone has their fate. I owe my wife a debt I’ll repay in the next life, even as a beast of burden. My daughter is my biggest worry, but since you promise to look after her, I trust you! As long as she’s cared for, I don’t care about status or titles—just look after her for life!"

"Alright! I promise!" Shawn Young said seriously.

"Good! Then I have no more regrets. Whatever you need me to do, just say the word!" Leon Chang said, relieved.

"Don’t worry, I only need your soul for two days! After that, you’ll return to the underworld. Now, you need to possess a man and help him suppress the Five Cursed Ghosts!" Shawn Young said, lifting the barrier and calling out, "David Yu, come in!"
