Another Encounter

1/4/2026

Tracy Chen couldn't hide the disappointment on her face.

Her English wasn't as good as Wendy Fang's, so the result was expected.

Tracy Chen was prepared for this. As she accepted the travel allowance and gift from Cherry Miller, Cherry spoke in Mandarin, "I looked at your college transcript. Your grades have always been good, but your English is really... not great..."

Tracy's face flushed with embarrassment. "I'm sorry."

"It's not a big deal," Cherry Miller smiled. "It's not like only people with good English can find jobs. Language is just one aspect—it doesn't erase your strengths elsewhere. The position you applied for is gardener in the front garden, so you might encounter some foreign guests and need a foreign language. I do have another position—plant fertilization—which doesn't require advanced English. Would you like to try it?"

Tracy Chen's eyes lit up instantly. "Really? I can?"

"I see your theory is solid. If your grades are real, you should be able to handle the job," Cherry Miller said, handing Tracy a blank work badge. "Start in three days. Is that okay?"

"No problem, no problem! Thank you so much! Miss Miller, you're really amazing!" Tracy was so excited she almost cried.

"Welcome to Yin Enterprises." Cherry Miller smiled at them and nodded. "Please ask the next two applicants to come in."

"Yes, yes!" Tracy grabbed Wendy Fang and floated out, bouncing with joy at the door. "Ahhh, I'm so excited! We actually made it! I'm so happy, so happy!"

Wendy Fang was happy too, but deep down she felt a pang of bitterness.

Will she have to watch Miss Yin and Winston Fan being lovey-dovey every day from now on?

Just thinking about it made Wendy Fang feel sad.

"Come on, let's go! We're eating something good tonight to celebrate!" Tracy Chen was oblivious to Wendy Fang's disappointment and sadness. "Now that we're employees at Yin Enterprises, our future is set! Promotions, raises, buying a house and a car—none of it is just a dream!"

"Ah, sure," Wendy Fang replied, forcing herself to sound cheerful.

Even at the restaurant, Wendy Fang couldn't muster much enthusiasm.

Tracy Chen, on the other hand, was buzzing with excitement and couldn't calm down.

"Hey, hey, hey, Wendy Fang, what's up with you today? You're so distracted!" Tracy Chen tugged at her. "Aren't you excited too?"

"Excited," Wendy Fang replied weakly, slumping over the table and watching Tracy order food.

How could she not be excited?

The person Winston Fan, her secret crush, was chasing after was now her boss.

Just then, Tracy Chen exclaimed, "Hey? Isn't that Winston Fan over there?"

Wendy Fang, who had been listless, suddenly sat up straight and looked around. "Where, where?"

"Over there!" Tracy Chen pointed in a direction. "Who's that with him?"

Wendy Fang immediately stood up and looked in that direction. In the distance, she saw two people walking over.

Wendy Fang instantly recognized Winston Fan, and soon realized the person beside him was none other than Yina Yin.

Watching the two of them walk side by side like a perfect couple, Wendy Fang felt a bitter taste in her mouth.

"Isn't that Miss Yin?" Tracy Chen called out. "Why are they together?"

Wendy Fang's mouth felt even more bitter. "How would I know why they're together? One's the CEO of Fan Corporation, and one's the heiress of the Yin Family!"

"Oh, true. They're a perfect match!" Tracy Chen said innocently.

Wendy Fang felt even worse inside. She grabbed her phone from the table and turned to leave.

"Hey, hey, hey, where are you going? We just ordered!" Tracy Chen chased after her.

Maybe it was just a coincidence, but Wendy Fang rushed out with her head down and accidentally ran straight into a car that had just started moving.

Screech—the tires braked suddenly, making a sharp noise against the ground.

"Ah!" Wendy Fang was so startled she fell to the ground, unable to recover for a long moment.

The car door flew open and someone rushed out, squatting in front of her. "Are you okay?"

It took Wendy Fang a while to come back to her senses. "W-Winston Fan?"

Winston Fan frowned.

Wendy Fang quickly said, feeling wronged, "I really didn't do it on purpose."

Winston Fan sighed. "Why is it you again?"

Wendy Fang lowered her head and said nothing.

"Where are you hurt? I'll take you to the hospital." Winston Fan saw she wasn't speaking and assumed she was in pain. He immediately picked her up from the ground and turned to head for the car.

"Wendy Fang..." Tracy Chen finally caught up, breathless, and was stunned by what she saw. "Winston Fan?"

Winston Fan didn't recognize Tracy, but since she called him 'senior,' she was probably a student at A University too.

Winston Fan nodded at her.

"Wendy Fang, what's wrong?" Tracy Chen asked quickly.

"She accidentally got hit by my car. I'm taking her to the hospital. Do you want to come too?" Winston Fan asked politely.

Tracy was about to speak, but Wendy Fang quickly said, "No need, just find a place to bandage it up. It's just a scrape, nothing serious. Winston Fan, you can just help me wrap it up somewhere. And Tracy, you don't have to come along—it's really not a big deal. Go back and wait for me."

After speaking, Wendy Fang gave Tracy a meaningful look.

Tracy Chen didn't really understand what was going on, but since Wendy said so, she just nodded. "Okay, I'll go back and wait for you then!"

Only then did Wendy Fang turn to Winston Fan and say, "Winston Fan, please."

"Let's go." Winston Fan put her in the front passenger seat and fastened her seatbelt himself.

Wendy Fang stole glances at Winston Fan's handsome face, her ears quietly turning red.

Instead of taking her to a small clinic, Winston Fan brought her to a fairly large private hospital. After an X-ray confirmed there were no broken bones, a nurse disinfected and bandaged her wound.

"Where do you live? I'll take you home," Winston Fan said.

"I... I'm currently staying at a classmate's rental place," Wendy Fang said, eyes downcast.

"Then I'll take you back..."

"Actually, my classmate's not really available tonight. Her boyfriend is coming over... Maybe you shouldn't worry about me. I'll just find somewhere to stay for the night. Anyway, in three days I'll start work, and the job provides food and accommodation, so I won't need a place anymore." Wendy's voice grew quieter and quieter.

"I see. Then stay at my place for the night," Winston Fan said with a frown. "It's not safe for a young woman to be out so late."

Wendy Fang felt a secret delight inside, but said, "Isn't that a bit inappropriate?"

"It is a bit inappropriate..."

"But since you insist, it would be rude for me to refuse," Wendy quickly added. "Then I'll trouble you tonight, Winston Fan."

Winston Fan was silent for a moment, then agreed.

He had plenty of houses anyway, it was just a matter of picking one.

Winston Fan made a call, and soon someone brought over a set of keys.

Winston Fan personally drove Wendy Fang over, explained how to use the appliances, then prepared to leave.

Wendy Fang blurted out, "You're not staying here?"

"I'm not staying here," Winston Fan replied bluntly. "It's just one of my properties."

Wendy Fang looked completely disappointed.

She thought that by staying at Winston Fan's place, she'd get to spend a night with him.

She hadn't expected that he didn't actually live there.

"Winston Fan, I'm scared to be alone," Wendy Fang said pitifully. "Can you stay with me?"

Winston Fan frowned slightly. He didn't really understand what girls were thinking, but that didn't stop him from being a gentleman. "Afraid to be alone? I'll call someone else to keep you company."

"Winston!" Wendy quickly stopped him. "Actually, I'm not that scared anymore. Thank you, Winston Fan."

Winston Fan nodded. "Then get some rest early. If you need anything, just order delivery."

"Alright," Wendy Fang replied reluctantly, nodding.

After Winston Fan left, Wendy Fang slumped onto the sofa, feeling dejected.

Why was Winston Fan so clueless?

Or maybe not.

If he was clueless, how could he be chasing after Miss Yin?

Wasn't it just because she was too ordinary and plain, and Winston Fan didn't like her at all?

There's no such thing as a clueless guy.

It's just that he's not interested enough.

Not long after Winston Fan left, Tracy Chen called. "Wendy Fang, what's going on between you and Winston Fan?"

"What do you think? It's just what it looks like," Wendy replied vaguely.

"Are you dating Winston Fan?" Tracy asked.

Wendy wanted to deny it, but she couldn't bring herself to. She wished it were true.

"Don't be ridiculous," Wendy said ambiguously. "Winston Fan is just beautiful and kind."

"So where are you now?" Tracy Chen asked.
