Misunderstanding

2/14/2026

Utterly superficial!

Evan Lin didn't speak loudly, but his words were perfectly clear to everyone nearby.

"You’re calling Doctor Wu the Miracle Healer superficial? And what are you supposed to be, then?" Simon Zuo sneered, secretly delighted by Evan’s words.

As soon as Evan said that, he was bound to lose points in Rachel Liu and Julia Du’s eyes.

Simon Zuo couldn’t wait for Evan Lin to be looked down on even more. In Simon’s mind, anyone who tried to get close to Rachel Liu was his enemy.

"Doctor Wu is famous throughout all of River City’s circles. Are you saying our entire River City elite has been fooled by him? Or do you actually think your own insight can compare to all these elders present?" Simon Zuo fired off a barrage of words, trying to crush Evan Lin on the spot.

Simon’s speech instantly put Evan at odds with all of River City’s elite, making him look even more reckless and arrogant.

"Just the hollow adoration of boring people. If he ever meets me, he’ll have to lower his head." Evan’s face was calm, his tone utterly steady.

"Lower his head to you? Who do you think you are?" Simon Zuo burst out laughing and pointed over, "Don’t you see your friend Summer Mu is begging him for help? If you’re really that capable, why don’t you go help your friend instead? Talk is cheap!"

Simon Zuo sneered, while Julia Du and Linda Zhao both looked a bit impatient. Julia was already considering whether she should tell her daughter to stay away from Evan Lin after this.

"I said no and that means no. I’m not seeing patients today. Young man, come another time."

Warren Wu waved his hand, lifted his chin, and didn’t give Summer Mu any face at all as he turned to leave.

Summer Mu’s face was grim, while the people nearby looked at him with thinly veiled mockery.

"Doctor Wu the Miracle Healer, what an ego."

Just then, a voice cut through the crowd—so quiet it seemed to bring total silence, with not a hint of emotion, as if it froze everything around it.

It was like ice.

"You—" Rachel Liu tried to stop Evan Lin from stepping forward, but it was too late. She watched him walk up to Doctor Wu, a hint of annoyance on her face.

Evan Lin had already embarrassed himself enough, but no one expected he’d actually dare to step up in front of everyone now!

Was he not embarrassed enough already?

"Liu Ran, from now on at school, don’t make friends with people who don’t know their place. They’re just not from our world." Julia Du said calmly, watching Evan Lin’s back as she quietly advised her daughter.

"Exactly, Liu Ran. With arrogant guys like him, he won’t even know how he ends up dead." Simon Zuo chimed in.

Keaton Wang and Megan Liu stared curiously at Evan Lin’s back.

"Who?"

Warren Wu had just taken a step, not yet past Summer Mu, when he heard someone speak. The voice sounded familiar, but for the moment he couldn’t place it.

"You don’t recognize me?" Evan Lin stepped out from behind Summer Mu, looking calm as his gaze settled on Warren Wu.

"It’s you! What are you doing here?" The moment Warren Wu saw Evan Lin, he remembered exactly who he was.

After his scheme against Haiyang Sheng was exposed in Brightsea City, Warren Wu had investigated what went wrong, only to discover that it was all the work of this kid named Evan Lin.

He’d met Evan Lin twice before—the second time at Haiyang Sheng’s house, where Evan’s overwhelming presence knocked back Ping Nianhua and his group. That scene was still vivid in Warren Wu’s mind.

Most importantly, this kid seemed to have a truly formidable miracle doctor backing him.

As soon as Warren Wu spoke, everyone who’d been ready to mock Evan Lin suddenly froze.

Simon Zuo’s face froze, his smile stuck unnaturally in place.

Julia Du and Linda Zhao exchanged glances, both seeing confusion in each other’s eyes.

Doctor Wu the Miracle Healer was highly respected in River City’s elite circles. The richer people were, the more they feared illness and death, and Doctor Wu’s skills were revered by these death-fearing tycoons. He was both cunning and skilled, so his reputation was sky-high.

"They know each other?" Julia Du’s eyes flashed with surprise as she turned to look.

In Julia Du’s mind, Evan Lin and Doctor Wu were worlds apart—one in the heavens, one in the mud. She never expected them to have any connection.

"Doctor Wu, are you sure you haven’t mistaken him for someone else?" Simon Zuo stepped forward, looking at Warren Wu, his tone still tinged with disbelief.

But Warren Wu didn’t even look at Simon Zuo, ignoring him completely. Instead, he stared at Evan Lin, his eyes full of wariness.

"Do I need your permission to be here? Who do you think you are?" Evan Lin snorted coldly, stepping forward with a frown and icy gaze. "I let you off back in Brightsea City, but I didn’t expect to run into you here. Still scamming people?"

"Ping Nianhua and his crew all paid for what they did. But you—ran pretty fast, didn’t you?" Evan Lin gave a half-smile, his words snapping the crowd back to reality.

"Where’d this punk come from, talking to Doctor Wu like that!" A fat businessman stood up, jabbing a finger at Evan Lin’s nose.

Bang!

Evan Lin kicked out without hesitation.

The fat businessman flew like a heavy sandbag, sent sprawling across the room by Evan Lin’s kick. He crashed into several tables and landed on the floor, groaning in pain, blood streaming from his nose.

Seeing Evan Lin strike so ruthlessly, the other tycoons—who’d hoped to gain favor with Doctor Wu by joining the scolding—instantly shut their mouths, not daring to say a word.

Warren Wu’s expression darkened, shifting rapidly. He looked at Evan Lin, gritted his teeth, then glanced around the room before quickly saying, "Young man! Back in Brightsea, it was all a misunderstanding—a misunderstanding!"

"A misunderstanding?" Evan Lin sneered. "Then if I hit you now, I guess that’s a misunderstanding too."

As soon as he finished speaking, Evan Lin raised his hand and slapped Warren Wu across the face.

Warren Wu cried out, his whole body sent flying into the wall, coughing up blood.

The sudden turn of events left Simon Zuo and the others completely stunned.

"Stop!"

At that moment, a cold shout rang out from not far away.

A whistling sound cut through the air.

A chair soared over the crowd’s heads, hurtling straight for Evan Lin’s head.
