Evan Lin looked at him, his tone indifferent.
The others' gazes landed on Jason Liu's face, each showing a strange expression.
"That kid didn't even move just now. He probably didn't do anything to Jason Liu, right?"
"I've been watching over there the whole time. That kid didn't even show any inner force. If you say he pulled some trick, I don't think he did."
"That guy looks just like an ordinary person at first glance. He doesn't have any strong aura, and besides, with so many of us watching, he really didn't move at all."
The people nearby listened to Evan Lin's words and started discussing among themselves.
In their eyes, Evan Lin hadn't made a single move from start to finish.
But Evan Lin's question to Jason Liu made his expression turn even uglier.
He was sure Evan Lin had done something, but he couldn't prove it.
If he insisted now, everyone around would probably think he was crazy.
"What a disgrace!"
Seeing Jason Liu suddenly go silent, the middle-aged Liu clan man next to him cursed angrily.
If Jason Liu had actually fought with the other guy, he probably could've helped out.
But since the other guy hadn't done anything, and Jason Liu respectfully kowtowed three times, even if the middle-aged man wanted to step in and help him save face, he couldn't find a good reason.
He looked both disappointed and furious, finally glaring at Jason Liu: "The immortal's disciple selection is about to start. You better behave!"
"If you pull any more stunts, just wait till we get home—I'll make sure you regret it!"
He shouted angrily, then turned and left with a flick of his sleeve.
"Just you wait!"
Jason Liu's face was twisted with rage as he yelled at Evan Lin, then left full of resentment.
He couldn't stay here any longer.
He had completely lost face.
But the other two Liu clan girls, who hadn't spoken before, were both fairly pretty. Right now, each shot Evan Lin a cold, icy look.
"Jason's temper isn't great. I don't know how you did it, but I'm warning you—when you're out and about, you'd better watch yourself," one woman said coldly.
"Today, our Liu clan is being generous and letting it slide for now. But once the immortal finishes choosing disciples, someone from our clan will definitely enter the immortal gate. When that happens, we'll settle accounts with you."
The other woman sounded even more arrogant as she looked at Evan Lin: "Whether you did anything or not, right or wrong, after this is over, you owe Jason nine kowtows. The first three are paid back, but the other six are what you owe to restore our Liu clan's face."
After finishing, both women gave Evan Lin a look of disgust, then turned and left together.
"Not much skill, but plenty of attitude."
Evan Lin sighed. These ancient martial clan types, each one acts like they're all that, but when it comes to real strength, they're honestly pretty weak.
"Why aren't you leaving?"
Evan Lin glanced at Sam Liu standing nearby, curious why he was still hanging around.
"Uh... I'll head over then."
Sam Liu looked at Evan Lin and hesitated: "Let me give you some advice—if you're not here to become the immortal's disciple today, you should leave now."
"My brother's temper is no joke. After today, he'll definitely get the family to come after you."
"This is about our Liu clan's reputation, so they won't let you off easy. And when our clan handles things, we don't mess around—we'll just beat you until you submit."
"I don't really like you. I think you're just some pampered rich kid hiding behind a strong bodyguard, but I still have to give you this warning."
"Leave here right now. Immediately."
After finishing, Sam Liu cupped his hands to Evan Lin, then, without hesitating, hurried after Jason Liu.
He'd originally planned to stick close to Evan Lin, scope things out, and maybe get to know Queenie Tong and Yvette Locke.
But after what just happened, he lost all interest. Even when he spoke, aside from a bit of genuine concern, he couldn't hide his disdain for Evan Lin.
"Well, that was pretty straightforward."
Evan Lin watched him leave, shook his head, and didn't feel offended at all.
Right now, Evan Lin had no inner force left in his body, and his spiritual qi was completely drained.
Aside from the Left-Hand Dragon still sleeping in his arm, Evan Lin really wasn't much different from a regular person now.
"These people all act so high and mighty. It's honestly annoying."
Queenie Tong frowned, clearly irritated.
"Want me to go burn them all?"
Yvette Locke turned to Evan Lin, eager to try.
Before she awakened her Fire-Spirit Mortal Body, Yvette's aura was pretty weak. Even if someone checked carefully, they'd have a hard time seeing her real strength.
If those people had realized Yvette Locke was already at the Pointing-to-Mystery Realm, Jason Liu probably would've thought twice before talking big.
"It's fine. I came to Coldspire Peak to look for something."
Evan Lin ignored the Liu clan for now; if they really wanted to cause trouble later, he could deal with them then.
At the moment, Evan Lin was hoping to find that woman's portrait and the crimson chain here at Coldspire Peak, but he also wanted to see if this so-called immortal was really a cultivator like everyone said.
If it turned out to be true, getting some pills or spiritual qi would be pretty nice.
You Mingdao followed Evan Lin, scanning the area with a predatory look. He was still a bit disappointed he hadn't gotten to fight just now.
Beating ten Vajra-level fighters sounded impressive to others, but to You Mingdao, it wasn't worth mentioning.
But if he could take down a Pointing-to-Mystery expert in no time, You Mingdao figured he'd make a name for himself.
"Silence."
As Evan Lin led Yvette Locke, Queenie Tong, and the others toward the Coldspire Peak ruins, using his Earth-Spirit Mortal Body to carefully search the area...
Not far away, behind the immortal seated cross-legged on high, a young man in a dark-blue Daoist robe scanned the crowd with a stern face and barked out.
His voice was deep and commanding, instantly quieting the whole scene.
Even the Ancient-Martial Liu clan looked over.
"Today, the Profound Clarity Sect immortal, True-Immortal Layman, is here to accept disciples."
"Everyone here is brought by fate. If you wish to enter the immortal gate, step forward!"
