A Wounded, Pitiful Little Deer

Jason Zhuo helped Grace up, looking at the red mark on her face, and said each word clearly, "I won't let you lay a finger on her again!"

"You won't let me? Ha! Who do you think you are?" Kevin Zhuo sneered. "You're just a parasite my family raised! You won't let me? What right do you have?"

Jason Zhuo's face shifted from pale to flushed, but he still said nothing, just shielding Grace and saying, "Come on, let me put some medicine on you."

Grace obediently followed him.

"Hmph!" Kevin Zhuo snorted smugly behind them. "Grace, just you wait! Sooner or later..."

He didn't finish his sentence.

But Grace knew exactly what he meant.

He probably wanted to say that sooner or later, she'd die by his hand...

...

Jason Zhuo took Grace to his place and applied medicine to her wounds.

He applied the medicine with gentle movements, as if afraid of hurting her.

Warmth flooded Grace's heart. She blinked her big eyes, and two lines of tears rolled down her cheeks.

"Does it hurt a lot?" Jason Zhuo asked awkwardly.

Grace shook her head, grabbed his hand, and said, "Big Brother, Mother's health has always been poor, and I don't have a Spirit Root. The only person Mother and I can rely on is you!"

Jason Zhuo's eyes narrowed as he looked at her, but he said nothing.

"Big Brother, is that okay? Can you protect us?" At this moment, she really looked like a wounded, pitiful little deer.

Jason Zhuo's heart ached, and he nodded, saying, "Don't worry, I'll protect you and Mother."

"Really?" Grace asked, her face full of hope.

Jason Zhuo nodded solemnly.

Grace's face suddenly dimmed. "But right now, you don't even have an official position! I really wish you were an officer like Kevin Zhuo!"

Jason Zhuo frowned and said nothing.

"Big Brother, if you get a chance to join the army, will you go? Get a rank higher than Kevin Zhuo, and let's see if he dares to be so arrogant with you!" Grace said, sounding childish.

Jason Zhuo smiled and said, "I need to help Father with his work."

Grace didn't say more, touching her face. "This medicine works so well, my face feels much better! It doesn't hurt at all. Thank you!"

Jason Zhuo nodded, his brows still tightly knit.

...

Her Big Brother always felt inferior.

The reason Grace let Kevin Zhuo slap her was just to stir up his protective instincts.

She felt that maybe this approach suited him more.

She hoped her Big Brother could be more assertive.

Even if he couldn't inherit the Zhu Family, at least he could change that tragic fate and have a place in the Zhu Family...

After leaving Jason Zhuo, she didn't return to the Serenity Pavilion, but went to see her mother Lena.

She asked her mother, "Mother, Second Brother already has children, but Big Brother is getting older and still hasn't married. Do you have any thoughts?"

Lena replied, "Well... I don't socialize much, so I'm not familiar with girls from other families. Let Aunt Wan arrange it; she won't wrong your Big Brother."

Grace fell silent, then said, "Mother, a few days ago at Grandmother's, I heard Aunt Wan say she wanted to marry her niece to Big Brother."

Lena frowned, "Her niece? Is that Bella Wan?"

Grace nodded, "Mother, even though Big Brother isn't Father's biological son, he is your legitimate son. How can he marry someone from such a low background?"

"Her family background is indeed low," Lena said. "If he marries her, Jason Zhuo will be looked down upon."
