Xiao Ji, sharp-eyed, spotted the strawberries in Ming Xin’s hand and snatched them away. He glanced at them and exclaimed, “Whoa! This brand of fruit is super expensive! I’ve seen it in high-end malls—one box costs three hundred yuan! She gave it to you?”
Ming Xin nodded.
Xiao Ji’s eyes lit up instantly. “She just gave away such expensive fruit?”
Ming Xin replied speechlessly, “She lent out a house worth tens of millions without a second thought!”
“True!” Xiao Ji’s eyes were practically green with envy. He couldn’t wait to open the box and taste one. The sweetness made him squint with delight. “No wonder it’s high-end fruit—it’s delicious!”
There were only about ten strawberries in the whole box, each costing dozens of yuan.
Honestly, ordinary folks couldn’t bear to eat something so pricey.
That very day, Xiao Ji moved in, unceremoniously picking a room and settling down.
After moving, the first thing Xiao Ji did was greet the neighbor. “Hey, beautiful, I’ve moved in. We’re neighbors now, so let’s get along!”
Mi Xiaoying nodded politely but distantly. “Hello. It’s good Ming Xin has someone to look after him.”
Like a magician, Xiao Ji whipped out a bouquet of flowers from behind his back and handed them to Mi Xiaoying. “First time formally saying hi. I’m Xiao Ji, a songwriter and composer. Want to come play in my recording studio sometime?”
Mi Xiaoying glanced at the flowers, smiled politely, but didn’t take them. She just nodded and smiled. “Sure, if there’s a chance.”
Seeing Mi Xiaoying didn’t take the flowers, a trace of disappointment flashed in Xiao Ji’s eyes.
He’d never failed with this trick when greeting girls before.
Those girls always accepted them happily.
Whether things worked out or not, basically no one would refuse such beautiful flowers.
But Mi Xiaoying was nothing like those ordinary girls outside, was she?
Mi Xiaoying said coolly, “Goodbye.”
With that, Mi Xiaoying went inside, clearly not planning to invite Xiao Ji in.
Xiao Ji was left out in the cold and slunk back home, dejected.
This scene happened to be witnessed by Yin Yinuo.
With her short hair and striking looks, Yin Yinuo was often mistaken for a man.
So when Yin Yinuo pushed open the door and came home, Xiao Ji saw her and didn’t look too happy.
“Hey, another admirer?” Yin Yinuo teased Mi Xiaoying with a grin. “The handsome guy next door isn’t bad.”
Mi Xiaoying looked at her speechlessly. “Don’t you start messing around too!”
Then Mi Xiaoying turned to Yuan Shisan, who was behind Yin Yinuo, and spoke gently. “Shisan, did you pick your room? Madam told me you’d be coming back. Originally, we were going to arrange a room for you at Luoxia Villa, but it’s not livable for now. So you’ll have to stay here with us for a few days until things are sorted.”
Yuan Shisan nodded. “Anything’s fine with me.”
“Alright, let me know if you need anything,” Mi Xiaoying said with a smile. “Don’t be shy.”
Yuan Shisan nodded again, but didn’t say anything else.
Yin Yinuo flopped onto the sofa, too tired to move. “I’m exhausted! Xiaoying, starting tomorrow, you handle signing documents at the company! That work is inhuman! My brother set me up with a mountain of tasks!”
Mi Xiaoying replied, “You’re a major shareholder—you should do some proper work at the company. Now that Shisan is here to keep you safe, I can finally rest. Don’t even think about taking that away from me!”
“You heartless thing!” Yin Yinuo wailed.
“Alright! I’ll come to the company to see you every day, okay?” Mi Xiaoying tried not to laugh, then went over to massage Yin Yinuo’s forehead to help her relax. “I’ll bring you soup, and make sure it’s different every day for a month—just to nourish you. When Young Master Gu Miao comes back, I’ll return him a lively young lady!”
“You just know how to sweet-talk me.” Yin Yinuo complained, but was already giving in. “Just remember to come early.”
“Got it,” Mi Xiaoying replied with a smile.
Even though Yin Yinuo complained, she still dutifully reported to the company the next morning.
With Gu Xixi, Yin Sicheng, Yin Yuhan, and Gu Miao all gone, as the eldest daughter of the Yin family, Yin Yinuo had to step up.
No matter how much she didn’t want to work, Yin Yinuo had no choice but to drag herself to the office.
In the morning, Mi Xiaoying first directed Lan Bao to clean the house, wash what needed washing, and replace whatever needed replacing.
She put fresh-cut flowers on the table, everything was neat and tidy, and only then did she head to the kitchen to make soup.
Lan Bao was a highly competent housekeeper robot and Mi Xiaoying’s most reliable little helper. Waving its mechanical arms, it prepared all the ingredients for Mi Xiaoying to make soup.
“Lan Bao, you’re amazing,” Mi Xiaoying praised, making Lan Bao’s proud little face blush.
Everything was running smoothly for Mi Xiaoying, but next door, Xiao Ji was getting anxious.
It had been all morning, and no one next door had come out. Were they just not going out today or what?
Ming Xin asked in confusion, “Xiao Ji, why aren’t you going to work today?”
Ming Xin didn’t dare go out, but Xiao Ji had no such worries.
“Ah, no rush, no rush.” Xiao Ji dodged the question, glancing around and listening for sounds from next door. “Ming Xin, why hasn’t Miss Mi come out yet? Which family is she from, anyway?”
Ming Xin didn’t really want to answer. Xiao Ji was acting suspicious, and Ming Xin didn’t want to cause trouble for the Yin family, so he brushed it off. “How should I know? I’m not a census taker! But if you don’t go out soon, your boss will probably chew you out!”
Xiao Ji waved impatiently. “I know what I’m doing.”
Just then, the door next door moved.
Xiao Ji immediately darted outside and saw Mi Xiaoying carrying a thermal container. He hurried to greet her, “Hey, what a coincidence! Heading out?”
“Hello.” Mi Xiaoying nodded politely, then turned and headed for the elevator.

Xiao Ji followed her. “If you’re heading out, could you give me a lift? I’ve got something urgent, and I’ve been waiting for a ride forever—still no luck. My boss needs this right away…”
Mi Xiaoying glanced at Xiao Ji. “Where are you headed?”
“Uh… over there.” Xiao Ji pointed vaguely in a direction.
Coincidentally, it really was in the same direction as Mi Xiaoying.
Mi Xiaoying wasn’t the type to look down on people. If she could help, she wouldn’t refuse—as long as the person meant no harm.
So Mi Xiaoying said, “I’m headed to the Third District up ahead. If it’s on the way, I can drop you off there.”
“Perfect, perfect, I’m going to the Third District too!” Xiao Ji said quickly. “Thanks a ton!”
“You’re welcome.” Mi Xiaoying headed down to the underground garage, walked to her parking spot, and pressed her car key. Instantly, a white Porsche flashed its lights.
Xiao Ji’s eyes lit up instantly!
A Porsche!
She really was a rich family’s heiress!
This was an opportunity he absolutely couldn’t miss!
Mi Xiaoying put the thermal container in the car, got in, buckled her seatbelt, and said, “Is it okay if I drop you off at the roadside in the Third District?”
“No problem, no problem.” Xiao Ji grinned from ear to ear, feeling lucky for his cleverness.
Mi Xiaoying didn’t ask any more questions and drove off right away.
When they reached the Third District, Mi Xiaoying dropped Xiao Ji off and drove away before he could even ask when she’d be back.
Xiao Ji watched the Porsche’s silhouette disappear, feeling a wave of regret.
She really was an attractive woman, but way too hard to approach!
He’d been so proactive, but she was totally unmoved.
Impossible!
She must just be too shy, too reserved!
So he was determined to try even harder!
Meanwhile, Mi Xiaoying, who was being thought about, had no idea what Xiao Ji was imagining. She simply carried her soup off to the company.
“Assistant Mi, you’re here!” The receptionist greeted Mi Xiaoying with a big smile. “The young lady has been talking about you all morning.”
“Got it, thanks for your hard work.” Mi Xiaoying smiled at the receptionist and headed to the elevator with her thermal container.
After Mi Xiaoying left, the receptionist girls started chatting in low voices. “You know, even after Assistant Mi lost her position, she never ended up on the sidelines.”
“What do you know? Assistant Mi is practically untouchable in the Yin family. Madam raised her like her own daughter! Even if she’s temporarily lost her assistant position, no matter what, Madam would never mistreat her! You’re all new here, so let me warn you—don’t offend Assistant Mi! If you do, you can forget about making it in the Yin Corporation!”
“Is it really that serious?”
“Of course! Think about it—who else in the whole company can just walk in and out of several bosses’ offices? She’s one of them!”
“Oh, thanks for the heads-up!”
Mi Xiaoying carried her thermal container and knocked before entering the office. She saw Yin Yinuo hard at work, looking miserable, and smiled, “Take a break for a bit. I made black-bone chicken soup for you today.”
“Ah! Xiaoying, you’re finally here! Help me out!” Yin Yinuo grabbed onto Mi Xiaoying like a lifeline. “I know you’re capable—help me sort out which documents can be signed and which can’t.”
Mi Xiaoying smiled and replied, “Alright, alright, you drink your soup, I’ll take care of it.”
“You’re the best!” Yin Yinuo finally relaxed and happily went to drink her soup.
Mi Xiaoying sat down at the desk and quickly sorted through the documents, grouping those approved for signing and those not approved separately.
She put the most important ones on top, the less important ones behind, and the least important at the bottom. Anything that didn’t need Yin Yinuo’s signature, she sent right back.
Mi Xiaoying would never let anyone bully Yin Yinuo!
Mi Xiaoying was super efficient. By the time Yin Yinuo finished her soup, everything was done.
Mi Xiaoying called the secretary over and pointed to the documents on the desk. “These need to go to the president for review—send them over, no need for the young lady’s approval. This pile is all signed and approved; this pile is rejected. Also, these documents aren’t in the young lady’s job scope, so send them to the right department.”
