Chapter 708: Absolute Zero

All Abyssal creatures were the same—once those shards of black ice fell upon them, their bodies instantly turned pitch black, the aura of frost thickening to an almost suffocating degree. Their powers surged, and every frost spell they cast became black, deadlier than ever.

When those black ice fragments blanketed every corner of the space and landed on Leon Merlin's Frostfire Shield, the once blazing flames grew wild and unruly, surging upward. But at the very top of the shield, a ripple of black began to spread slowly.

In just three seconds, the icy aura carried by that black ripple snuffed out the flame shield...

The ice-blue Frost Shield couldn't even resist—it was instantly corrupted, turned black. That wicked black frost aura even tried to infect Leon's magic through his control.

Any magic Leon Merlin released was instantly contaminated, freezing at a terrifying speed.

Everyone's protective spells, touched by those black ice shards, were frozen solid. It seemed even a single shard could infect the magic within, turning all mana into sinister black ice power.

A Dark Elf's fire shield was extinguished, and a shard of black ice landed on his left hand. In an instant, his hand froze into black ice, which began to spread madly up his arm.

Elsa reacted instantly, casting Wind Blade to sever the Dark Elf's infected left hand. The moment it was cut off, the hand froze into black ice and crashed to the ground, shattering into a pile of black shards.

"Frost Plague! Block it quickly—don't let it touch you..."

Elsa's terrified scream rang out as she frantically cast fire protection spells, conjuring shield after shield to counter the black ice shards...

Everyone was thrown into chaos, faces pale with fear. The Frost Plague could strengthen frost creatures—especially those of the Abyss—making them even more powerful when infected, rather than harming them.

But for other beings, even a touch would spread the evil frost like a plague, corrupting all their magic and turning any non-frost power into wicked, tainted ice energy.

Now, black ice shards fell everywhere, blanketing every corner. The depths of Nightfall Gorge had become a world of frost, each inch coated in black ice.

Hubert's teeth chattered as he trembled uncontrollably, frantically rushing past Leon Merlin to the front.

Just a touch would freeze you solid—Hubert's scalp tingled with dread.

Leon Merlin said nothing. He raised the Doombringer Staff, chanted an incantation, and cast a Ring of Flames.

But this Ring of Flames was different—like a fiery red dome, it emerged from Leon and rapidly expanded, blasting away all black ice shards within ten meters.

Yet in an instant, the fiery shield turned to black ice, and the dome exploded. Leon immediately cast a modified Ring of Flames again, blasting the black ice shards away.

The exploding black ice shards whirled upward in a cyclone, sweeping countless shards into the sky and carrying them far away.

Sweat beaded on Leon's forehead. The Frost Plague was insidious—those black ice shards drifted down like innocent snowflakes, but even wind spells couldn't blow them away.

Each shard carried a potent plague, infecting almost any spell. Anything imbued with magic could be claimed by the Frost Plague, making its power even stronger.

They'd barely held off the Frost Plague, but the real danger was still ahead.

Countless Abyssal creatures, corrupted by the Frost Plague, unleashed spells of terrifying power. Every frost spell now carried Curio's evil energy—blocks of black ice, like congealed black blood, radiated a chilling menace.

Abyssal Water Elementals turned pitch black, rolling slowly like blobs of dark water. Their attacks were the most fearsome, hurling masses of black water.

Each head-sized orb of black water looked harmless, but when it exploded, its force rivaled an Empowered Blastfire Orb.

The black water blasts shattered the black ice on the ground, leaving it riddled with cracks. There were hundreds of Abyssal Water Elementals!

Countless head-sized orbs of black water fell like a rain of darkness. Everyone dodged desperately, the newly regrouped party forced to scatter once again.

Then the Frost Demons swooped down, shrieking, spewing foul black water. The bubbling liquid filled the air with a nauseating stench.

Wherever the black water landed, the ground—almost impervious before—was instantly pitted with holes, as if corroded by acid.

The party's flame shields hissed and sizzled on contact with the black water, eroding away within seconds.

Everyone retreated, but there was nowhere left to run. The rear was packed with Abyssal creatures—especially near the Teleportation Array, where Abyssal Water Elementals and Frost Demons blocked any escape.

The Teleportation Array was mostly repaired, but Leon had no time or chance to finish the job. They'd have to suppress the Abyssal creatures first.

They kept falling back, spells killing dozens of Abyssal creatures every second, but it was a drop in the bucket.

Right at the critical moment, Curio's second claw squeezed through the Abyssal Gate. Both massive ice claws together, Curio began chanting in guttural demon-speech.

Black Abyssal Runes spewed from Curio's mouth, swirling in midair and forming a spinning black ice sphere. Layer upon layer of runes stuck to it, making the sphere grow larger and larger.

In just two or three seconds, the spinning black sphere swelled to over ten meters across.

A terrifying aura spread from the black sphere, freezing chunks of ice out of the air—hail poured down in sheets.

Then Curio raised the sphere overhead and hurled it forward with all his might.

The massive ice sphere, packed with immense pressure, was thrown like an ordinary stone—so fast it shot dozens of meters in a second. Then its outer layer began to explode...

Layer upon layer of black runes shot out like icy spikes, spinning from the sphere in every direction. Anything struck instantly froze into an ice statue.

A second later, the sphere flew another dozen meters and exploded again, releasing another barrage of black runes.

A dozen slow-moving Abyssal Water Elementals couldn't dodge in time. Struck by the icy runes, they froze solid, then shattered into black ice fragments as the sphere kept exploding.

"Absolute Zero! Damn it, get out of the way..."

Anderson was the first to shout, his three faces twisted with fear. Absolute Zero—a frost spell said to freeze anything, even flames, in an instant. Any Abyssal creature unlucky enough to be hit, even Abyssal Water Elementals, were frozen solid.

After several explosions, the black sphere had frozen everything within a hundred or two hundred meters of Nightfall Gorge. Any Abyssal creature in its path was turned to ice, then shattered to pieces.

A torrent of fire spells erupted. Nearly everyone—except Reina—cast fire magic. So many spells packed into a small space collided and merged, forming a monstrous firestorm.

But even the firestorm was suppressed by Absolute Zero. The fiercest flames at the front were frozen in ice, and seconds later, the ice shattered, snuffing the fire out.

Leon cast spell after spell, his expression cold and grim, searching for a solution. He'd already used the Violet Dragon Avatar—now unusable for the moment. Only the Elemental Chapter remained, but its mana drain was immense, especially for high-level spells.

Facing Curio, an Abyssal minor lord adept at frost magic, the Elemental Chapter's boost alone was no longer enough.

Leon wielded the Doombringer Staff in one hand and the Death Tome in the other. Gold-red Spears of Vulcan appeared in midair, skewering and slaying Abyssal creatures.

He also cast Sea of Flame, transforming into a Fire Elemental Avatar, blinking through the inferno to dodge most frost spells.

The others adopted similar tactics—retreating, dodging, and slaying as many Abyssal creatures as possible.

After more than ten minutes, Curio's deafening roar echoed out, his power surging even higher.
