As soon as Elisa Field finished speaking, everyone's eyes turned to her.
Facing the crowd's inexplicably accusatory stares, Elisa grew even more flustered. She strode over to Miles Gu, grabbed his arm regardless of the occasion, and said, "Miles, didn't you say you were here to break off the engagement with her? Why are you still sitting so close to her?"
Earl Field felt utterly humiliated.
The radicals in the family—even if they insisted on marrying within the clan—should at least pick someone reliable. How did they end up with an airheaded beauty like Elisa?
Could it be that they chose Elisa because she's clueless and easy to control?
Honestly, Earl Field had figured it out.
That’s exactly what those people were thinking.
Only a pretty face would get brainwashed so easily and be simple to control.
It hadn’t been easy to hypnotize and wake up Miles Gu, so naturally they didn’t want his wife to be an unpredictable factor.
So, they’d rather this woman be a bit dumb and naïve than risk any unexpected trouble.
Cecilia Gu looked at Elisa, her brows slightly furrowed.
Miles Gu was willing to break off his engagement with Yina Yin for a woman like this. If word got out, it wouldn’t just embarrass the Field Family—it would shame the Yin and Yun families too.
Cherry was right.
Yun Family women are proud; they won’t stand for having their dignity trampled like this.
Charles Yin made his displeasure plain on his face.
After so many years as CEO and chairman, he wasn’t about to show a shred of courtesy to anyone irrelevant.
So Charles Yin spoke up directly: "Miss Elisa, are you that eager to pick up our leftovers?"
With one sentence, he insulted both Elisa and Miles Gu.
Elisa understood, her face flushing red with anger, but she didn’t dare argue back.
Miles Gu stayed silent. Charles Yin had every right to rebuke him.
"Alright, let’s sit down and eat," Cecilia Gu finally said, giving Elisa a little dignity. "If we wait any longer, the food’ll go cold."
Someone pulled out a chair nearby. Seeing that Miles Gu had no intention of speaking up for her, Elisa reluctantly sat down at the farthest spot, at least three or four seats away from Miles.
That’s how the Yin Family operates—straightforward, with their dislike written on their faces. They have no time for fake politeness.
Cherry Miller brought over the last bowl of soup. Cecilia Gu pointed to the seat next to Ethan Yin and smiled, "Hurry up and sit down. We’re just waiting for you to start the meal."
"Thank you, madam." Cherry Miller smiled and sat beside Ethan Yin, poised and confident, not shy at all.
"Wait a minute, she’s just a housekeeper. Does she really deserve to sit and eat with us?" Elisa vented her earlier frustration on Cherry Miller. "Is the Yin Family really this undisciplined?"
"Elisa!" Miles Gu interrupted her loudly.
Miles Gu’s brow was tightly furrowed.
He was starting to lose patience with Elisa.
As his woman, you could be clueless, awkward, or uneducated—but you had to know when to keep your mouth shut.
"Did I say anything wrong?" Elisa protested even more, "She’s just a housekeeper!"
Cecilia Gu spoke gently: "Miss Elisa, you might not know—Cherry is only temporarily acting as housekeeper. She’s been my future daughter-in-law since over a decade ago. So, my daughter-in-law helps me manage the household. Do you have a problem with that, Miss Elisa?"
With Cecilia Gu defending her, Cherry Miller smiled warmly, then turned to Elisa: "Miss Elisa, do you dislike my job? In that case, what position do you hold in the Field Family right now?"
After speaking, Cherry Miller turned to Earl Field: "Your Lordship, are there no women in the Field Family who hold positions?"
Earl Field smiled gracefully at Cherry Miller and replied, "Of course. Not only do we have women in important roles, but there are quite a few of them. The Duke has four chief aides—the highest-ranking of whom is an elegant lady. Our Field Family actually encourages women to take on key positions."
The three of them countered, making Elisa’s face instantly flush red. She couldn’t say a word.
"Let’s eat," Miles Gu said to wrap things up, his warning look making Elisa shiver.
Elisa didn’t dare say another word.
She was terrified Miles Gu might really cast her aside.
Now she had nothing—only Miles Gu left in her life.
If Miles Gu really abandoned her, those people would definitely toss her aside too.
She couldn’t let herself be abandoned!
Elisa didn’t dare make any more trouble and obediently sat down to eat.
It took a while to finish the meal, and afterward, everyone got up to do their own thing.
Just as Yina Yin was about to leave, Miles Gu suddenly spoke: "Yina, can we talk?"
"I’m going to the greenhouse to graft flowers. Are you coming?" Yina Yin didn’t say yes or no to the talk.
Attitude matters, after all.
"Sure, I’ll go." Miles Gu immediately stood up and followed Yina Yin outside.
Elisa tried to follow, but Jenny Kerr stopped her.
Jenny Kerr bluntly asked, "Miss Elisa, do you know anything about gardening? The flowers inside are extremely valuable, cultivated by renowned Jiang Family experts. Even a single pot is worth millions. If you accidentally damage one, it can’t be replaced."
"You..." Elisa was left speechless again by the retort.
Lucas Mu couldn’t stop grinning. He patted Jenny Kerr’s shoulder and said, "Let’s go to the greenhouse too. Those are our precious babies!"
Jenny Kerr shot Elisa a glance, then followed Lucas Mu.
"Bro?" Ryan King looked at Ethan Yin with longing for the greenhouse in his eyes.
"Sean, stick to farming." But Ethan Yin mercilessly crushed his hopes.
Growing flowers wouldn’t help his future one bit.
So it was better for him to just learn farming!
Leo and Theo Mo stepped forward to comfort Ryan King. "Don’t worry, we’ll stay with you."
Ryan King was moved to tears. "You two are the best. Justin, what about you?"
Justin Yin quickly said, "Bro, I don’t have to farm anymore, right?"
"Typical!" Ethan Yin tapped Justin Yin on the forehead. "Go wait down the hill—Ken Yun and Sharon Yun are coming."
"Huh? They’re back from Province Y? Okay, I’ll go pick them up. Wait—this isn’t their first time here, why do I have to greet them?" Justin Yin’s playful attitude made Ethan Yin laugh.
"They brought lots of good stuff—all this year’s Yun Family harvest. Don’t you want first dibs?" Ethan Yin asked with a smile.
"Really?" Justin Yin’s eyes lit up. "Made by Grandpa and Grandma?"
"Yep." Ethan Yin nodded with a smile.
"Alright, I’m going!" Justin Yin dashed off, full of excitement.
Ethan Yin turned to Cherry Miller. "Let’s go watch Earl Field and my parents play golf."
"Okay." Cherry Miller nodded with a smile.
An hour later, Justin Yin was waiting down the hill when Ken Yun and Sharon Yun arrived.
Sure enough, they brought a massive motorcade with them.
The cars were piled high with gifts from the Yun Family.
There was food, drinks, supplies, toys, ingredients, medicines, fabrics, seeds, fruit, and dried goods.
It took four whole cars to carry it all.
"Ken, Sharon!" Justin Yin bounced over. "You finally made it! These days, our brother keeps dragging us up the mountain to farm—it's exhausting. We're holding up okay, but Ryan King is about to cry. He's still learning how to farm!"
Ken Yun smiled and said, "We heard about it. We’re here to witness his misery firsthand."
"Hahaha!" Justin Yin laughed happily. "It’s really pretty miserable!"
"Justin, what’s going on with Miles Gu?" Sharon Yun interrupted Justin’s antics and asked directly, "What did Aunt and Uncle say?"
Justin Yin dropped his smile and put on a bitter face. "Sigh, it’s hard to explain. Let’s talk as we walk."
"Now Miles Gu is a completely different person—nothing like before. Plus, he brought a so-called true love fiancée, that silly woman Elisa, insisting on breaking off the engagement. So, Aunt and Uncle agreed to call it off. Earl Field even rushed over from England; they're just waiting for the right day to announce the end of the engagement. Sharon, you’re an astrologer—what do you think?"
Sharon Yun’s deep, abyss-like eyes flashed. "Oh? I’ll have to meet her first."
