Thirty Seconds

Evan Lin spoke with icy indifference. At his words, Shawn Young's face twisted, shifting unpredictably.

"You kidding me?" Shawn Young still couldn't believe it—this punk, even knowing he was facing the Shaw family, dared to throw hands.

The Shaw family's turf might not be Nanyang District, where Imperial Grand KTV sits, but no high school kid could ever shake them.

Plus, Barry Shaw, the Shaw family boss, built his legend with his fists—his stories still echo around Brightsea City.

"My word is law. That's how I roll." Evan Lin stared down Shawn Young, repeating himself without flinching.

"What do you even want?" Shawn Young finally realized just how screwed he was—panic creeping into his eyes.

The three goons sprawled nearby looked even worse.

Harry Wong's leg was still nailed to the floor. He yanked at the knife with both hands, but it wouldn't budge—the blade was buried deep.

One guy took an Evan Lin punch—his right shoulder totally wrecked, writhing on the ground, pain written all over him.

The last one, tossed onto the sofa by Evan Lin, hadn't moved at all—out cold from start to finish.

"I said it already—you get to choose. Left leg or right leg. Pick one." Evan Lin's voice was ice-cold, like he was talking about something trivial.

"You brat! If you wanna die, don't drag me and Lily Zhong down with you!" Lily Zhong's dad snapped, face darkening at Evan's words.

He was scared stiff of the Shaw family—more than Evan Lin's fists, Lily Zhong's dad feared getting caught up in Evan's mess.

"Dad! How can you say that? He's saving us!" Lily Zhong couldn't hold back anymore, jumping in to defend Evan.

"You're my daughter—since when do daughters boss their dads around? Listen, Lily, we can't afford to mess with the Shaw family. Tell your student to scram! If he bails, we're the ones left holding the bag!" Lily Zhong's dad's face kept twitching.

Seeing Lily Zhong stay quiet, her dad glared at Evan Lin: "This is all your fault. You pissed off the Shaw family—don't drag us in!"

"We didn't ask you to save us! Get it straight—you troublemaker, always fighting! Just wait till I tell your folks!"

Evan Lin shot the old man a frown, clearly fed up.

"If it weren't for Lily Zhong, you'd already be a dead man." Evan Lin turned, voice cold as ice.

Just one look from Evan Lin made the old man shiver, but he quickly got mad: "How dare you talk to me like that! My daughter's your teacher! Think you're hot stuff, huh? You wanna hit your teacher's dad now?"

You've got some nerve!

The old man, leaning on his status as Lily Zhong's dad, figured Evan Lin wouldn't dare hit him. He got even cockier, grabbed Evan's arm, and barked, "Apologize to Brother Shawn! Get down and beg! If Shawn Young gets mad and drags me and my daughter into this, you're finished!"

Let go.

Evan Lin shot a cold look at the hand gripping his arm and spat out two words.

"What if I don't? You really think you dare hit me?" The old man flinched at Evan Lin's stare, then bared his teeth and shouted, voice sharp and mean.

Where was that pathetic look from when those four thugs had him cornered?

"Dad, let go! Let go!" Lily Zhong was so mad she was almost frantic, trying to pry his hand off Evan Lin.

But the old man wouldn't budge: "Lily, tell your student to kneel and beg Brother Shawn for forgiveness. Otherwise, you're getting dragged in for sure."

I'm doing this for your own good!

"What are you saying? If not for Evan Lin, you'd already be missing a hand!" Lily Zhong was so upset she was nearly in tears.

"Evan Lin, I'm sorry—let's just go, let's get out of here." Lily Zhong apologized, trying to pry her dad's hand off, but the old man gripped tight, refusing to let go.

Evan Lin felt a headache coming on.

Shawn Young watched, secretly delighted, hoping to slip away.

Evan Lin seemed to read Shawn Young's mind. He shot him a look: "Go ahead, try running. If you get away, you win. If not, you get to pick between your left and right hand next."

"Now, you've got one minute and thirty seconds left to decide."

Evan Lin's icy words echoed in Shawn Young's ears. Hearing this, Lily Zhong's dad panicked even more, terrified Evan would really act and leave him to take the blame. He rushed forward, and when Evan ignored him, he suddenly swung at Evan's face for a slap.

BANG!

Before the slap could land, Evan Lin narrowed his eyes, flicked his arm, and sent the old man flying onto the sofa.

"Ow! Lily! You've lost your mind! Your student actually dares to hit your dad!" The old man lay on the sofa, shouting hoarsely.

Lily Zhong's face kept shifting, biting her lip, not knowing what to say.

"Keep yelling, and maybe you'll get your own 'choice question.'" Evan Lin's icy gaze bored into him, voice cold as hell itself.

If not for Lily Zhong, every bone in his body would've been shattered just now.

This time, Evan Lin held back, so the old man wasn't really hurt.

After Evan Lin's glare, and seeing Lily Zhong still not speaking up for him, the old man's arrogance instantly deflated. He trembled and didn't dare make a sound.

"Hey, man, how about this—I'll give you money." Shawn Young's face was ugly, but he forced a normal tone.

"Money?" Evan Lin frowned.

"Yeah, I'll give you a hundred thousand!" Shawn Young saw Evan Lin frown, looked at his clothes, and figured he must be broke.

"A hundred thousand, huh? Sounds like a lot." Evan Lin sniffed.

Shawn Young's face lit up. "As long as you let me go, I'll transfer the money to your account right now!"

"But..."

Hearing Evan Lin say "but," Shawn Young's heart skipped a beat. "But what? If that's not enough, I can add more—two hundred thousand, deal?"

"Nice offer, but..."

"You've got thirty seconds left."
