Almost Losing Evan Lan 9
Lily Bai helped Aunt Cui prepare a table full of delicious home-style dishes, waiting for General Lan to arrive.
What she didn’t expect was that His Majesty the Supreme Emperor and Jenny came along too.
Lily grabbed Eric Lan and dragged him outside, demanding, “Why did you invite them?”
“It wasn’t me!” Eric Lan protested. “I don’t have that kind of pull!”
“Grandpa is something else... He didn’t even give us a heads-up. We weren’t prepared at all...”
“It’s fine, it’s fine! Home cooking is perfect!” Eric Lan blinked at her. “Besides, he’s not really here for the food.”
“Then why is he here?”
“Probably... just to catch up and chat.”
“Oh, I get it,” Lily said.
“Get what?”
“The two old guys haven’t seen each other in ages. They just want a quiet place to shoot the breeze!”
Eric Lan gave her a mysterious smile. “Come on, let’s go back inside!”
Lily went in and saw her grandpa holding Moonlight, with the Supreme Emperor leaning in beside him. The two elders were teasing the baby together.
Moonlight giggled happily, absolutely delighted.
“Moonlight, say ‘Grandpa!’” the Supreme Emperor coaxed with a smile.
“He’s only two or three months old. How could he possibly say ‘Grandpa’?” General Lan scoffed.
“When Little Evan was three or four months old, he could already say a few simple words,” Xavier Xiao blurted out. “Moonlight’s such a clever little thing—he’s even smarter than his dad, isn’t he, Moonlight?”
“Ooo ah ah!”
“Say ‘Grandpa.’”
“Ah ah!”
Xavier Xiao: “Grand~pa!”
Baby: “Gra~pa~”
“Hey! Did you hear that? He’s learned it!” Xavier Xiao said excitedly.
“He hasn’t learned it, it’s just a coincidence.”
“Come on, Moonlight, say ‘Grandpa’ one more time.”
“Grandpa!” This time, the word was perfectly clear.
“Did you hear that? Did you hear that?” Xavier Xiao burst out laughing.
General Lan, itching for attention, said, “Moonlight, call me Old Grandpa.”
Moonlight: “Shh-shh!”
“Not ‘shh-shh,’ it’s Old Grandpa.”
Moonlight: “Shh-shh, shh-shh!”
Lily hurried over and said, “Grandpa, he—”
“Hey! Don’t interrupt!” General Lan cut her off. “Come on, Moonlight, if you call me Old Grandpa, I’ll...”
He started to say something, then stopped.
Suddenly, he felt warmth on his leg.
Looking down, he saw the little guy peeing happily.
After finishing, Moonlight even shivered a little.
“Pfft!” Lily saw her grandpa’s expression and burst out laughing.
General Lan glared at her, face darkening.
“Grandpa, I was just about to tell you—whenever he says ‘shh-shh,’ it means he needs to pee.” Lily tried not to laugh as she explained.
“Why didn’t you say so earlier!” General Lan thrust the baby at Lily.
“I was just about to! You wouldn’t let me!”
“You...” General Lan pointed at her. “You did it on purpose!”
“I did not!” Lily protested.
General Lan: “...Go get me some pants!”
Lily called Ernie to fetch a pair for him so General Lan could change.
As he walked out, Eric Lan suddenly burst out laughing.
Then he gave Lily a big thumbs-up and said, “Lily, do you know what I admire most about you?”
“Huh?” Lily blinked.
“In this whole family, you’re the only one who dares mess with my grandpa like that!” Eric Lan said. “Seriously—my dad, my mom, my big brother, my sister-in-law! No one else would dare! Right, Your Majesty?”
The Supreme Emperor laughed beside them. “Your grandpa’s got a temper, but he’s actually pretty reasonable. He’s not as scary as you make him sound.”
