Almost Losing Evan Lan 8

1/4/2026

Right now, Moonlight is just over two months old, and Little Fish... she's strong, but on her own, she can't stand against the Godslayer Syndicate.

I'm afraid I can't just stand by any longer!

The stabbing pain in his hand intensified, and blood began to flow.

Ms. Crowe's expression changed; she reached out to take it.

But the President didn’t let go. He continued, “I’ll bring her back into the Xiao family. I’ll help you protect them.”

The stabbing pain continued.

Blood from the President’s hand stained the flowerpot red.

But eventually, the pain started to fade.

Finally, it was gone.

"So you agree, right?" Xavier Xiao said. "I don’t care if you’re too tired to stab me or if you actually agree—either way, it’s settled!"

The potted plant didn’t react anymore.

Xavier Xiao took out his handkerchief, wiped the blood off the flowerpot, and handed it back to Ms. Crowe.

Then he bowed deeply to her. "Thank you! Please take good care of him."

Ms. Crowe hugged Evan Lan and turned back toward the courtyard.

When she heard the car outside drive away, she sighed. "Gatekeeper! Next time, don’t prick him! When you hurt him, you end up feeling bad too!"

Evan Lan drooped a little.

......

Every night, Lily Bai insists on bringing Evan Lan’s plant into her bedroom before she sleeps.

Otherwise, he’ll prick her.

This night was no exception. After talking things over with everyone, she carried Evan Lan inside.

Then she noticed his leaves were drooping, nowhere near as lively as usual.

"Oh no! Why are you so wilted?" Lily Bai cried out in alarm, then shouted, "Ms. Crowe! Ms. Crowe!"

Ms. Crowe rushed over and asked, "What’s wrong?"

"Look, Evan Lan’s leaves are all droopy! Is he..."

"Not at all!" Ms. Crowe said. "He may look delicate, but his life force is incredibly strong!"

"Then what’s wrong with him?"

"He’s just in a bad mood," Ms. Crowe replied. "He’ll be fine tomorrow, don’t worry."

"Really?"

Ms. Crowe nodded and left.

Lily Bai stroked Evan Lan’s flowerpot apologetically. "I’m so sorry, Xixi. It’s all my fault—I didn’t protect you! You almost got stolen."

Evan Lan was still listless.

"Let me water you!" Lily Bai went out, fetched a cup of Moon-Spring water from the mountaintop, and poured it into the flowerpot.

"Don’t worry, Xixi. From now on, I’ll have Sandy guard you every second—no one will ever get another chance!"

He still didn’t react.

So Lily Bai brought over the baby. "Look at our little one—isn’t he getting bigger? He really changes every single day!"

"He suddenly cried his heart out today—he must’ve sensed you were being stolen! Too bad he can’t talk yet, poor thing. Isn’t that right, baby?"

The baby looked at her and nodded.

Lily Bai broke into a smile. "See? He nodded! Our baby is so smart! Xixi, whenever you’re free, teach him—teach him to talk, teach him how to use spiritual power to protect us, okay?"

"If you agree, prick me once—go ahead!" Lily Bai held out her hand.

Finally, Evan Lan lightly pricked her.

Lily Bai laughed and kissed him. "Good boy! Okay, the baby’s sleepy—I’ll tuck him in now. You get some rest too!"

She tucked the baby in and, the next morning, found that Evan Lan had perked right up—he was lively again.

That day, Eric Lan called Lily Bai to say the surgeon was scheduled and her teacher’s wife would have surgery tomorrow.

He also said that tonight he’d accompany his grandfather to visit Moonlight.
