Evans Family First Lady
Lila Green immediately headed to Evans Manor.
"Wow, this house is really well built!" It was Lila Green's first time seeing Evans Manor, and she hadn't expected such a fine home in a small rural village. Her eyes lit up instantly.
She glanced not far from Evans Manor, where a large construction site was underway. It looked like another mansion—bigger than Evans Manor itself. Lila guessed this must be the property the villagers talked about, belonging to the mysterious and wealthy Mr. Warren.
When Lila arrived, Mrs. Iron was sweeping at the manor gate. Spotting a striking woman approaching, Mrs. Iron politely stepped in front of Lila and asked, "Madam, whom are you looking for?"
Lila's eyes darted over Mrs. Iron, noting that even a sturdy servant dressed neatly and respectably. Clearly, Evans Manor was quite well-off!
"Who are you, with eyes but no sense? You don't even recognize me?" Lila Green shrilled at Mrs. Iron. "You’re just a servant—a dog raised by the Evans Family—how dare you block my way? Get out of my sight!"
Mrs. Iron was usually mild-mannered, but Lila’s imposing manner stunned her. She stammered, "Forgive me, madam... I didn’t recognize you..."
"Out of my way!" Lila snapped impatiently, shoving Mrs. Iron aside and barging in herself.
Mrs. Iron was left flustered and helpless; all the household’s decision-makers were out, leaving only three maids, Bai Lu, and the two children, Goldie and Silver.
Lila Green burst into the courtyard and took in the spacious, elegant front yard, filled with flowers and plants. Not only was the exterior beautiful, but the interior was tastefully decorated as well. Lila's heart leapt with joy—this was a fat sheep ripe for the shearing!
Lila strode straight into the hall and sat herself down in the main seat. Mrs. Iron stood awkwardly to the side and said, "Madam, my masters aren't home. Perhaps you could come back another day?"
"You wretched thing, are you blind? Do you know who I am? I am the First Young Madam of the Su family, and I'm carrying the Su family's precious great-grandson! This is our Su family estate—why should I come back another day? You dog servant, kneel before me!" Lila slammed the table, glaring at Mrs. Iron with the full authority of a mistress.
Mrs. Iron's legs buckled and she nearly collapsed to her knees in fright.
"Where's Su Li? Hurry and call her out to greet her sister-in-law! Don't you know the eldest sister-in-law is like a mother?" Lila knocked impatiently on the table.
Hearing this, Mrs. Iron realized the woman was Lily’s elder sister-in-law and replied even more timidly, "Madam, my lady and her family have all gone out."
Lila was surprised. Lily, a married woman, wasn’t at home—where could she have gone?
But with Lily and her family out, Lila was even more pleased. She immediately began snooping around. Mrs. Iron tried to stop her, but Lila snapped, "You dog of a servant! Even Lily has to show respect and call me Sister-in-law. Who are you to block my way?"
Mrs. Iron was completely intimidated by Lila and could only follow behind her anxiously.
Lila marched straight into Margaret Evans’s bedroom and immediately spotted the jewelry box on the dressing table. She rushed over, opened it, and—oh my!—it was filled with treasures!
Lila’s eyes gleamed. She picked up a jade bracelet and examined it, then grabbed a pearl necklace and tried it on, admiring herself in the mirror.
Mrs. Iron was so anxious she was about to cry. "Madam, these things belong to the matriarch. Please don’t touch them!"
"Shut up!" Lila snapped. "I’m the Evans Family First Lady. Everything in Evans Manor belongs to me. Who are you to tell me what to do?"
Mrs. Iron was so upset she nearly fainted, but she didn’t dare say another word.
Lila Green continued to rummage through the jewelry box, greedily pocketing several pieces, her eyes shining with excitement.
