Contrast

Miles Gu felt his patience slowly wearing thin.

“You just got here today, and you're already thinking of leaving? If you don’t want to stay, then go back to the hotel in the city.” Miles Gu said.

He had already decided—he was going to keep living here.

There were still so many mysteries he hadn’t figured out yet.

“Uh, forget I said anything.” Elisa Field had no intention of going back to the hotel!

“Elisa.” Miles Gu hesitated, then decided to speak: “I spoil you because you’re my fiancée. But no one else is obligated to indulge you or give way to you. You’re a guest in someone else’s home, so at the very least, you need to show basic manners. I’m the future head of the Field Family, and you’re the future lady of the house. If you can’t even manage basic etiquette, are you sure you can handle being my wife in public?”

Elisa’s face froze. “I, I…”

“I don’t expect you to be like Mrs. Yin, building your own business empire. I just want you to show basic respect when dealing with people. That’s not too much to ask, is it?” Miles Gu looked at Elisa’s confused face and started to doubt his own judgment.

Sure, Elisa was pretty, but how could he have ever been so shallow?

Nothing stings quite like a comparison.

Compared to Yina Yin, Elisa Field was utterly overshadowed.

“I’ll try my best.” Elisa could tell Miles Gu wasn’t just making casual remarks today.

He might really mean it this time.

She definitely didn’t want Miles Gu to abandon her.

“Alright, Elisa, I’m a bit tired. I’d like to rest for a while.” Seeing Elisa finally calm down, Miles Gu softened his expression.

“I’ll go then.” Elisa mumbled as she left.

Watching Elisa’s retreating figure, Miles Gu thought for a moment, then left the room to find Earl Field.

At that moment, Earl Field was still playing golf with Ethan Yin and Cherry Miller.

Miles Gu arrived just as Cherry Miller was swinging her club.

Smack!

The ball dropped perfectly into the hole.

Earl Field applauded Cherry Miller enthusiastically. “Cherry, your skills have improved!”

“Thank you for the compliment, Earl.” Cherry Miller replied with a bright smile, “Last time I was lucky enough to play with you was three years ago when I accompanied Mrs. Yin to visit the Duke. We wanted to work with him to acquire a British estate for growing lavender for essential oils. I remember you helped us source the lavender seeds. Three years have passed, and now the estate is covered in lavender. Earl, you’re still as charming and energetic as ever.”

“No, I’m getting old. Can’t pretend otherwise.” Earl Field laughed heartily, thinking the Yin Family was truly blessed to have trained such a capable daughter-in-law early on.

Cherry Miller might be young, but her skills were anything but immature.

He’d heard Cherry Miller had personally taken out her own father to protect her mother.

A woman fit to be the wife of a noble family could never be soft-hearted, not foolish like Elisa Field.

“Earl, you say you’re old, but maybe we’re just too young. I hope when I reach your age, I’ll have your achievements! Oh, it’s your turn.” Cherry Miller smiled, “By the way, Earl, our lady’s Danni Cosmetics opened a new production line this year. We might need to use your channels again. I hope you’ll lend us a hand. We’re old friends, so shall we keep the same split as before?”

“Another new product? No problem! Even if Miles Gu and Yina Yin’s engagement is off, our families are still close. Of course I’ll help.” Earl Field replied with a smile, swinging his club as he spoke.

Ethan Yin smiled, watching Cherry Miller skillfully play golf while still finding time to help Cecilia Gu’s business.

His beloved was just that amazing!

No wonder Mom and Dad liked Cherry so much—she was just too adorable!

Miles Gu arrived just in time to overhear Earl Field and Cherry Miller’s conversation.

Hearing this, Miles Gu paused mid-step.

Yes, a woman like Cherry Miller was truly fit for a top-tier elite family.

She could handle the drawing room, the kitchen, the battlefield, and the home. She could close a deal with just a few words.

And Elisa Field?

Aside from whining and shopping, what else could she do?

Send her to negotiate a business deal?

She probably didn’t even know what business was.

“Young Master.” Earl Field’s staff straightened up and greeted Miles Gu as soon as he approached.

“Mm, I’m here to see my father.” Miles Gu nodded, his red eyes showing no emotion.

“Alright, I’ll go announce you.”

“No need. Ethan... isn’t an outsider.” Miles Gu said this so naturally, it just slipped out.

After he said it, Miles Gu was stunned for a moment.

He must be pretty close to Ethan Yin, right?

Earl Field’s staff accepted Miles Gu’s words, paused, and said, “Please, go ahead.”

Miles Gu walked over, smiling. “Father, looks like you’re having a good game today.”

“Not bad.” Earl Field glanced at his son. “What brings you here?”

“It’s been a while since I’ve played golf with you, so I thought I’d come over.” Miles Gu replied.

Ethan Yin said, “Perfect timing. My aunt’s cousins should be arriving soon, so I was just about to take my leave. Miles Gu can take over for us.”

Cherry Miller added, “It’s been ages since I played golf. Now that I’ve moved around a bit, I’m really feeling sore.”

After she finished, Cherry Miller nodded at Miles Gu. “You two keep playing, we’ll head back now.”

“Alright.” Earl Field gave Miles Gu a meaningful look, then said to Ethan Yin and Cherry Miller, “We’ll talk about the new production line later.”

Ethan Yin and Cherry Miller left without protest.

Miles Gu watched Ethan Yin and Cherry Miller walk away, and a sudden pain welled up inside him.

When did he and Ethan Yin become so distant?

Was it all because he was breaking off his engagement with Yina Yin? Did that mean their friendship was over too?

“I’m already here, and you’re still so eager to call off the engagement?” Earl Field looked at Miles Gu and said.

Miles Gu was silent for a moment before he finally spoke. “Father, a lot of my memories are blurry, and many things don’t make sense. So I want to ask—did something happen to me?”

After Yun Shuang arrived, Luoxia Villa became even livelier.

But Yun Shuang didn’t chat much with everyone; instead, she took Yina Yin up to the second-floor balcony to enjoy the breeze.

“Cousin,” Yun Shuang said, “you’ve lost so much weight.”

Yina Yin gave a bitter smile.

“Everything will get better,” Yun Shuang comforted her.

Yina Yin shook her head. “Whether it gets better or worse, I can accept it.”

Yina Yin gazed into the distance, where Earl Field and Miles Gu were playing golf. Seeing Miles Gu’s familiar yet unfamiliar figure, her feelings were complicated.

She’d already moved past the shock, disbelief, sadness, pain, and struggle of the past few days. She wasn’t as depressed as she had been then.

She had to admit, Cherry Miller’s advice had helped.

“It would be a lie to say I’m not sad. But some things can’t be solved just by being sad. We’re adults now, and adults have their own rules to play by. If it can’t be forced, then we have to accept it.” Yina Yin spoke calmly. “You don’t need to worry about me, I’m not as fragile as you think.”

Yun Shuang’s dark eyes blinked as she followed Yina Yin’s gaze. “The Field family’s bloodline inheritance really does have a big impact. But Miles Gu isn’t a pure Field—half his blood is just ordinary. I remember Mom saying that when Miles was little, he got sick because of his bloodline.”

“Yes, there are issues with the Field family’s bloodline,” Yina Yin nodded.

“So, don’t worry. If we solved problems before, we can solve them now.” Yun Shuang took Yina Yin’s arm. “And you have me. The Yun family’s astrology isn’t just for show. If we find the person who hypnotized Miles Gu, I can reverse it and bring back his primary personality.”

“Really?” Yina Yin’s eyes lit up.

Even if she and Miles Gu were destined to part, she still hoped the old Miles could come back to them.

“Trust me. Trust Aunt and Uncle, too!” Yun Shuang squeezed Yina Yin’s hand.

“Alright, I trust you.” Yina Yin smiled.

At dinner, Cherry Miller said, “I heard there’s a cultural food festival in a town not far from Luoxia Villa. Anyone interested in going?”

“A cultural food festival?” Ethan Yin was the first to perk up. “Does that mean lots of snacks?”
