Harvey Xie was sent flying like a sandbag by the lead black-suited bodyguard.
The sound of the kick was dull and heavy.
In everyone’s eyes, Harvey tumbled several times across the ground before coming to a stop, clutching his stomach.
Elder Leonard Huo’s face, which had been full of disdain, froze for a moment. He looked at Harvey lying there, frowned, and said in a low voice, “Harvey, take care of them. Don’t waste any more time!”
Elder Huo knew Harvey’s strength. Normally, even if those guys managed to get close to him—which was unlikely—even if Harvey took that kick head-on, there’s no way he’d be sent flying like this!
This just made no sense!
Elder Huo thought Harvey was just hiding his strength, but in reality, Harvey was suffering in silence.
“Holy crap, did that kick just put him in the hospital?” Yolanda Fang’s eyes widened as she looked over at Harvey lying on the ground, full of amazement.
“Who knows? He’s the one who kept talking big. If you can’t back it up and still insist on showing off, you deserve to get wrecked.” Lynn Chen finished, then shot a look at Evan Lin. “And you too. Stop bragging all the time. Try being a little more down-to-earth.”
“Solved a fraud case? If you could really do that, why do we even need the police? Are you saying you’re better than all the cops?”
Seeing Evan Lin stay silent, Lynn Chen kept pressing, relentless as ever.
She was seriously annoyed at Evan. "Don’t you get it yet? Harvey Xie talks big, and now he’s lying over there. If you keep this up, you’ll end up just like him!"
Evan was utterly helpless. Lynn’s twisted logic was just too much to handle, so he simply ignored her, in one ear and out the other.
Lynn was so mad she ground her teeth, and when Evan didn’t respond, she turned away, not even bothering to look at him anymore.
“Kid, weren’t you just acting all tough? Come on, let’s see if your bones are harder, or my fists!”
The bodyguard who’d just kicked Harvey paused, then burst out laughing and strode right up to him.
More than a dozen bodyguards nearby also rushed forward.
“You trash! Go die, all of you!” Harvey raged, scrambling up and swinging a punch at the guy—but no matter how he tried to summon his Inner Strength, nothing happened.
Not only that, but his body, which used to be tough as iron, suddenly felt fragile. If he’d only lost his Inner Strength, Harvey’s physique alone should’ve been enough to keep these guys from hurting him.
But just now, that kick had him grimacing in pain.
Bang!
Harvey swung his fist, but the lead bodyguard caught it with one hand, steady as a rock.
“Why is this happening?” Harvey gritted his teeth, staring at his fist trapped in the bodyguard’s grip, full of unwillingness.
“Why? You got no strength, no skills, and you still wanna act tough? You tried to show off and now you’re just embarrassing yourself. And you’re asking me why?” The bodyguard sneered, then smacked Harvey on the head with his free hand.
“Why, why, why—you still wanna ask me why? I’ll show you why.”
With every word, the bodyguard slapped Harvey on the head again. Harvey’s head would swing to the side, then snap back, only to be slapped away once more.
“And you dyed your hair blond? You think having yellow hair makes you a Super Saiyan or something? Weren’t you all cocky just now?” Another bodyguard came over, ruffling Harvey’s hair and running his fingers through it, spraying spit everywhere as he mocked him.
“You guys are asking for it!” Harvey roared, furious.
The moment he said that, he got slapped across the face.
He was knocked to the ground by the slap, and then a dozen black-suited bodyguards swarmed in, surrounding Harvey and kicking him without mercy.
Dust flew everywhere, and Harvey’s screams rang out from the middle of the brawl.
Elder Leonard Huo’s expression kept shifting as he watched Harvey get stomped by the crowd, completely baffled.
He didn’t rush in to save Harvey—mostly to keep up his Medicine King Valley elder airs. Still, Elder Huo just couldn’t accept that his disciple was actually losing to a bunch of ordinary bodyguards!
“Hey, old man, if you don’t step in, your disciple’s gonna get beaten to death.” Yolanda Fang glanced sideways at Elder Huo, staring at his head as she spoke, but Elder Huo just ignored her.
“Stubborn old geezer, probably scared he’ll get smacked too.” Yolanda muttered under her breath.
Lynn Chen watched, a little worried Harvey might actually get seriously hurt. “Should we call the police? What if something really happens?”
“Relax, didn’t you hear him screaming? He’s got plenty of energy left—he’ll be fine for a while.” Yolanda grinned, watching Harvey get pummeled, secretly enjoying the show.
“Uncle Li, didn’t you say that guy was supposed to be strong?” On the other side, Melissa Mu watched Harvey getting thrashed, totally confused how he’d acted so cocky just now.
“I... I don’t get it either. Just now he looked like an Inner Strength expert, but now he can’t even lift a chicken.” Uncle Li was just as baffled.
He glanced at Elder Huo, and the wariness in his eyes faded. “If that arrogant kid’s just bluffing, then that old man’s probably nothing but a flashy fraud, pretending to be some master.”
Uncle Li frowned, feeling like something was off.
“Typical country bumpkins, always thinking they’re somebody. Now look at him, getting beaten up like that—serves him right.” Melissa Mu snorted.
She didn’t bother telling her people to stop. Even if something happened, worst case, she’d just pay up.
“Screw your whole family!” Harvey howled, still struggling, but was immediately greeted with another round of punches.
“Serves you right for showing off! You wanna act tough? Come on!”
A whole crowd surrounded him, beating him senseless.
Elder Leonard Huo stood off to the side, staring hard at the scene.
After one last vicious kick, a bodyguard looked up and caught sight of Elder Huo, then cursed, “Old man, what are you staring at? Keep staring and I’ll beat you up too!”
