Entering Alone

Following the map's markings, Evan Yang arrived at Battlefield No. 3. Here, the blockade line was formed by a chain of planets; beyond the line, everything was territory occupied by creatures, with spatial rifts everywhere. This side was still intact, but the area was heavily guarded, with many stationed defenders ready to repel any creature attack at a moment's notice.

“Why isn’t there any fighting with the creatures?” Evan Yang looked around, didn’t spot any creatures, and muttered to himself.

At that moment, several people gathered around. They looked similar to the Armored Corps Evan had seen on Storm God Star. One of them pointed at Evan and asked, “Who are you?”

“I’m here to hunt creatures,” Evan Yang replied.

“Hunt creatures? Are you a Hunter?” someone asked.

“That’s right, I’m a Hunter.” Evan Yang thought about it—made sense—he was indeed a Hunter.

“Even so, you can’t just fly around in the void. Land immediately and stay on the planet,” the man said.

Evan Yang asked curiously, “Why can’t I be in the void?”

“Those creatures can tear through the void. It’s dangerous out here—get down now. Only the planet surface is relatively safe. If you want to hunt, wait until the creatures attack. Then you’ll see them for yourself,” the man explained.

Hearing this, Evan Yang analyzed the situation and figured the creatures must be hiding for now. He chose a planet to descend to and found it full of armored people using all sorts of defensive measures, as if they were afraid of creatures invading their bodies.

A young boy saw Evan Yang land and ran over. “Hey, you must be new here, right?”

Evan Yang looked at the boy curiously.

“I’m Max Meng, the flagship member of the Top-Tier Mercenary Regiment,” the boy said with a grin.

Flagship member of the Top-Tier Mercenary Regiment? Evan Yang was puzzled—what was that supposed to mean? Just then, a man walked over, grabbed the boy, and with a swoosh tossed him aside. Max Meng crashed into a nearby wooden stake, wincing in pain and jumping around.

“Flagship member? More like flagship item carrier,” the man sneered.

“Drake, what’s your problem?” The boy rubbed his head angrily.

“Am I wrong? And what’s up with your group anyway—sending a kid to recruit people?” Drake clicked his tongue.

“That’s because our captain and the others are in seclusion, busy cultivating,” Max Meng said angrily.

“Cultivating? My informants say your regiment ran into a powerful creature and got wiped out. Now you’re still trying to recruit? Don’t think we’re all idiots.” Drake snorted. As a member of another group, he’d always been jealous of how strong Max Meng’s regiment was—every good thing went to them. Now that their group was ruined, his own luck had finally come.

“Ridiculous! Don’t think you can surpass us just because of this!” Max Meng fumed.

From their conversation, Evan Yang could already guess the situation: one regiment was jealous of the other, and the other had apparently run into a creature and been wiped out—or something along those lines.

“Not worth arguing with you,” Drake laughed, then turned to Evan Yang. “Brother, you’re here for missions, right? Join us! Absolutely the safest choice—whatever kind of creature you want, we can get you.”

“Oh? Really? What’s the strongest creature you’ve ever taken down?” Evan Yang asked.

“Plenty! We’ve hunted more Emperor-level creatures than I can count, and even a few above that—Immortal Sovereign level, virtual stage and all,” the man boasted.

“Liar! You guys have never killed anything at Immortal Sovereign level,” Max Meng retorted.

“You little brat, you don’t know anything—stop running your mouth and get lost!” Drake snapped, grabbing Max Meng to throw him again. But Evan Yang stopped him. “That’s enough, he’s just a kid.”

Drake let go of the boy and grinned. “Yeah, just a kid. So, are you willing to join us?”

“Not interested. You can go now,” Evan Yang said.

Hearing this, Drake said, “Lame,” and turned to leave.

“Big brother, what brings you here?” Max Meng asked, looking at Evan Yang.
