Both Are a Little Awkward

1/4/2026

Wendy, flustered and clumsy, naturally didn’t pay much attention, so she ended up taking advantage of Alex quite a bit without realizing it.

If it had been any other woman, Alex would’ve lost his temper ages ago.

Is the chief assistant to the CEO of Yin Enterprises someone you can just mess with?

Absolutely not!

But if the person taking advantage is Wendy, Alex figures he can tolerate it.

So Alex let Wendy get away with all her clumsy fumbling, grabbing and touching him countless times, before finally letting her roll off to the side.

Alex sighed, then got up and went to the door to turn on the light.

The light inside wasn’t very bright, but it was enough to illuminate the whole room.

Only then did Wendy realize she was actually sitting on Alex’s blanket.

Ahhh, she really didn’t mean to do that!

Wendy jumped up like her seat was on fire. "S-sorry! I got your blanket dirty. Here, you can have mine—it's brand new, I haven't even used it yet!"

"It’s fine," Alex calmed himself and said, "I don’t mind."

Wendy was stunned for a moment, then felt incredibly grateful. "Assistant Alex, you’re such a good person!"

Alex glanced at Wendy, speechless. He noticed that aside from guilt and unease, there wasn’t a hint of embarrassment on her face, which left him feeling oddly disappointed.

Is she even a girl?

She’s in a guy’s room, almost ended up in bed with him, and only feels guilty and uneasy? Not even a little embarrassed?

Alex was seriously discouraged.

He might not be as handsome or rich as the CEO, but he’s still a pretty good catch, right?

His yearly salary plus bonuses is close to eight figures, okay?

And Wendy is totally indifferent to him?

Suddenly, Alex understood how the CEO must’ve felt back then.

Wendy still hadn’t caught on to what Alex was thinking. She stood there awkwardly and said, "Go ahead, I’m listening."

Alex nearly choked on his own spit. He sighed, pointed to the chair, and said, "Sit. The environment isn’t great, but it’ll have to do."

Wendy obediently sat down, ready to listen to Alex.

"Ahem, you don’t have to be so nervous." Alex saw how serious Wendy looked and couldn’t help but pat his own forehead.

Fine, he picked this assistant himself—he’d have to see it through, no matter what.

"Back then, the CEO and Mrs. Yin’s marriage was full of drama." Alex briefly recounted the past between Charles Yin and Cecilia Gu, then said to Wendy, "Now do you understand why the company chose you all to be Mrs. Yin’s assistants?"

This time, Wendy finally got it. "I understand. So, from now on, we can’t get in the way of Miss Yun and the CEO anymore."

"Not ‘you all’, just you." Alex emphasized, "Mia Dou and Coco Shen have never done anything that dumb."

Wendy hung her head in shame.

Actually, she kind of understood deep down, but her instincts just wanted to protect Cecilia Gu, so she’d forgotten all about it.

"I get it now, Assistant Alex." Wendy promised, "I won’t make another mistake!"

"Good," Alex said. "Alright, it’s getting late. I’ll walk you back. Don’t disturb the CEO and Mrs. Yin, got it?"

"Got it!" Wendy nodded vigorously.

The two of them walked out of the room together, and ran into Ben and Chris. Their eyes immediately landed on the corner of Alex’s mouth, and they exchanged meaningful smiles.

Wendy didn’t get it at first, but when she looked up, she saw her own lipstick mark on the corner of Alex’s mouth.

She suddenly remembered what had just happened in Alex’s room.

Because the room was so dim, she hadn’t even noticed!

Now it’s over, it’s all over—there’s no way to explain this!

Wendy’s face flushed bright red with embarrassment. She lowered her head and rushed back to her room.

Alex hadn’t caught on yet. He asked Ben and Chris, "What are you guys laughing at?"

Ben gave Alex a knowing look. "So, when did you two get together?"

Alex immediately retorted, "What are you talking about? There’s nothing going on between me and Wendy!"

"Bro, we’ve worked together for years. Who doesn’t know who?" Chris grinned and pointed to the lipstick mark at the corner of Alex’s mouth. "You guys are this close and you’re telling me nothing’s going on? Don’t treat us like we’re blind! Relax, Wendy’s yours—no one’s going to steal her from you!"

Alex froze for a second, then spun around and checked himself in the mirror.

His heart started pounding.

Weirdly enough, he didn’t hate that lipstick mark.

He must be losing his mind!

Suddenly Alex realized why Wendy’s face had turned so red and why she’d hurried off just now.

For some reason, he felt a little happy about it.

After getting teased by his buddies for ages, Alex told them to take the night shift, then hurriedly washed his face and refused to leave his room for the rest of the night.

He slept soundly all night.

But when everyone woke up the next morning, things felt a little awkward.

Wendy and Alex kept dodging each other’s eyes, too embarrassed to look at one another.

Clearly, they both remembered that lipstick mark from last night.

Everyone else was all smiles, looking like they wanted to gossip but held back, which made Charles Yin and Cecilia Gu glance at them a few extra times.

Seeing how awkward they looked, Cecilia couldn’t help herself and went to ask Mia Dou.

Mia Dou, always straightforward, didn’t hold back—she quietly spilled the beans to Cecilia, telling her that Wendy and Alex had spent some time together in Alex’s room last night, and came back with their faces burning red.

Cecilia couldn’t help but laugh when she heard that.

If Wendy and Alex really liked each other, she’d be happy to see it happen.

Still, when Cecilia thought about what Charles Yin had whispered to her last night, her own ears started to burn a little. She decided to get to work right away—she couldn’t let this man mess with her head.

It rained a little last night, not much, and it stopped by morning.

So the air was really moist and comfortable.

After breakfast, everyone packed up the convoy and headed toward Riverside County.

Riverside County is pretty well-developed. There aren’t any skyscrapers with dozens of floors, but there are plenty of five- or six-story buildings.

You can tell the local economy here is actually pretty good.

Cecilia Gu and Rona Muir were meeting with a local elder who held a secret beauty formula passed down from the imperial palace.

She always made her own beauty products and never sold them—just used them herself.

Anyone who’d tried her homemade products had amazing skin.

Rona Muir had heard the news and came here specifically to try to buy the formula, and while she was at it, purchase a ready-made production line.

This was also to benefit the elder's relatives and friends—a sort of added condition for purchasing the formula.

When Wendy arrived at the county, it was as if she suddenly snapped out of it, stunned for a moment.

She hadn’t expected that the small county Cecilia wanted to visit was actually quite close to her own home.

Wendy’s home was in the neighboring county, right next to L City.

She rarely came here, so at first she didn’t make the connection.

It wasn’t until she saw the familiar street scenes that she realized—she was actually going home this time.

Cecilia noticed Wendy spacing out and immediately asked, "Is your home nearby?"

Wendy nodded instinctively.

"I don’t need that many people looking after me," Cecilia smiled. "You’ve been away for so long—are you homesick? Go home and visit! If you’re not busy, stay the night."

Wendy snapped back to reality, quickly waving her hand. "No, it’s fine. I’m here to work, not for fun."

Cecilia replied, "Don’t worry, there will be plenty of time to work later. A day or two won’t make a difference."

Mia Dou chimed in, "Yeah, Wendy, what a coincidence! Go home and visit. Coco Shen and I can handle things here."

Coco Shen nodded too. "Aren’t you always worried about your brother? Go check in on him. If anything comes up, I’ll call you. It’s so close, you can come back anytime."

Rona Muir turned and smiled, asking, "Wendy, are you from around here?"

"Yeah," Wendy replied quickly. "The neighboring county."

Cecilia glanced up and saw Alex Carter sneaking peeks at Wendy. She suddenly remembered Mia Dou gossiping earlier and said, "Alex, I’ve got a task for you today—escort Wendy home. Is that okay?"

Alex hadn’t expected Cecilia to assign him such a task. He was surprised for a moment, but quickly smiled and replied, "Of course, no problem."

Wendy wanted to protest, but Mia Dou and Coco Shen kept encouraging her. So Wendy stopped being stubborn, thanked Cecilia, and left with Alex in a separate car, splitting from the convoy and heading in another direction.

"Assistant Alex, I’m really sorry to trouble you with this," Wendy said, genuinely embarrassed. She’d already forgotten about what happened last night, thinking it was all a misunderstanding, so there was no need to dwell on it.

Alex’s eyes flickered, his tone calm. "It’s nothing. Mrs. Yin gave the order, so of course I’ll do my best."

"Oh," Wendy replied quietly, feeling strangely unhappy for reasons she couldn’t explain.

She couldn’t figure out why she was feeling this way.

It’s not like there was anything between her and Alex, right?

He wasn’t her boyfriend or anything.

Wait, why was she even thinking that?

Why would she ever think Alex could be her boyfriend?

Ha, she must be getting carried away—daydreaming in broad daylight!

"The GPS says there’s a supermarket by the road," Alex said, reminding Wendy, "You haven’t been home in a long time—do you want to buy something for your family?"

"Yes, yes, definitely!" Wendy snapped out of it and quickly nodded. She absolutely had to get something.

Alex found a mall, parked the car, and went in with Wendy to help her pick out gifts.

For example, a razor for Dad, a gold bracelet for Mom, and a new phone for her younger brother.

Then they bought a pile of snacks and drinks—so many things that the trunk was packed full.

Only then did Wendy, full of excitement, head home with Alex.

Her thoughts were so simple, she even forgot this was her first time bringing a man home.

Well, even if he was just following Mrs. Yin’s orders to escort her, it was still her first time.

So when Wendy’s neighbors saw her bringing a man home, they were all stunned!
