Serena Feng, How Many Faces Do You Have
Tranquil Autumn Garden was locked down—three layers of soldiers inside and out. Serena Feng could only shake her head at the sight.
The City Lord of Night City had brought nearly a thousand elite troops to her West District clinic, and there were two or three thousand more here. Was the Emperor out of his mind, letting Night City’s lord march so many soldiers into the capital?
So many troops packed into the imperial city—one slip and it could all blow up. The City Lord relied on his army, treating everyone else like air; if trouble started, he’d just bolt back to Night City, and no one could touch him.
Serena Feng and Dominic Zhai traded wry smiles. As expected, Dominic’s eyes flashed with anger and frustration.
These Night City troops were a ticking time bomb for the capital. If anything went wrong, Dominic Zhai would be the first to take the fall—not the Emperor who’d let Night City’s lord bring his army in.
The Emperor was never to blame—only his ministers paid the price. If Serena guessed right, after the Empress’s family scandal, he trusted no one. This move was both a gesture to Night City and a trap for Dominic Zhai, a way to seize his military power.
Luckily, Ninth Royal Uncle had already swept up the elite troops at her West District clinic. With that warning fresh, the City Lord would think twice, and the Emperor couldn’t pin anything on Dominic Zhai.
With the City Lord leading, Serena and her group quickly entered. Reid Yale lay motionless on the bed, face greenish and lifeless—the snake venom was flaring up.
"Move." Serena set her medicine chest on the table, pulled out a doctor’s gown, tossed one to Simon Sun, and put on her own.
Even now, she fussed over her gown. The City Lord was seething—if he didn’t need Serena to save his son, and if Victor Yun weren’t here, he’d have had her killed already.
Tranquil Autumn Garden was packed with his men. At a single command, Serena Feng wouldn’t have a chance to escape—even Ninth Royal Uncle couldn’t get here in time.
Serena’s full attention was on Reid Yale. She didn’t notice the murderous intent in the City Lord of Night City’s eyes. Once she’d finished dressing, she gestured to Simon Sun to prepare the instruments and medicines, signaling him to assist her soon.
Simon Sun hadn’t had much hands-on experience, but he was an excellent assistant—he was born with a gift for medicine.
"Everyone, move back—stand at least ten steps away." Serena spun around to the bedside, waved the City Lord away, while Dominic Zhai and Victor Yun had already seated themselves far off, careful not to interfere with Serena and Simon Sun.
When Serena lifted the blanket off Reid Yale, just as she’d expected, his entire left arm was rotten and stank of decay. The spot where the snake had bitten him was black and purple.
"If not for the Hundred-Poison Antidote Pill from the Master of the Mystic Healer Valley protecting his heart meridian and suppressing the spread of venom, even a divine doctor couldn’t have saved him." Reid’s injuries were horrifying—Serena wasn’t exaggerating at all.
If he weren’t on the brink of death, the City Lord of Night City would never have lowered himself to beg for help.
"The Hundred-Poison Antidote Pill from the Master of the Mystic Healer Valley? The Young City Lord took one before?" Victor Yun picked up immediately, pressing for details as soon as Serena spoke.
"Without the antidote pill, the Young City Lord wouldn’t have survived until now." Victor Yun really was sharp—thank goodness he was here. He saved Serena a lot of trouble. If she’d had to rely on Dominic Zhai, she’d be exhausted.
"Where’d you get the antidote for the Young City Lord? If you can produce the Hundred-Poison Antidote Pill from the Master of the Mystic Healer Valley, how could you possibly fail to cure Reid Yale?" Victor Yun pressed, clearly confused.
"I gave it to him. When the Young City Lord was bitten by the snake, I fed him the antidote pill. I was about to perform the final debridement when he woke up, refused further treatment, and accused me of wanting revenge." Victor Yun and Serena worked in perfect tandem—not only highlighting Serena’s integrity, but also exposing the Night City father and son’s petty ingratitude.
Serena Feng was Night City’s savior—she’d saved Reid Yale twice. Yet instead of gratitude, Night City wanted her dead. Clearly, the Night City father and son were utterly despicable.
The City Lord’s face burned with shame. Faced with Serena’s rebuke, he couldn’t say a word—he wanted nothing more than to devour her alive.
If Victor Yun knew about this, then Holden Cui would too—and Night City’s reputation…
Her goal achieved, Serena said no more. She nodded to Victor Yun in thanks, then focused entirely on saving her patient.
"Simon, do a skin test and administer local anesthesia for the Young City Lord." Serena put on medical gloves and pressed on Reid Yale’s arm, pus oozing from the skin. Reid let out a weak cry of pain, and the black blood made it clear to everyone how serious his injury was.
"Yes, Master."
Crack—the glass vial shattered. Simon Sun deftly drew medicine into a syringe, expelled the air, then gave Reid Yale an intravenous injection.
The treatment method was unlike anything Dominic Zhai and Victor Yun had ever seen. Both stared without blinking at Simon Sun. The City Lord of Night City, on the other hand, jumped up in alarm: "Serena Feng, what are you doing?"
The sudden shout startled Simon Sun. His hand shook and he almost missed the injection site. Nervous, he pressed the plunger too quickly, so Serena hurried over, took the syringe from him, and slowed the injection.
Once the injection was finished, Serena handed the syringe back to Simon Sun and looked up—meeting the City Lord of Night City’s accusatory stare head-on. Serena arched an eyebrow and pointed toward the door: "Shut up. If you don’t understand, stop interfering. If you can’t keep quiet, get out."
"I just want to know what you’re doing. Your treatment methods are unheard of—I’m worried about my son." The City Lord of Night City hoped Serena would explain and put his mind at ease.
"You’re not a doctor. You have no right to interfere with how I work. City Lord, this is your first and best warning—if you interrupt me again, I won’t be polite." Serena’s eyes narrowed, glinting dangerously.
In this moment, Serena was the true ruler here. Her words were law—whether the City Lord liked it or not, he had to obey. He wanted to protest, but facing Serena’s icy gaze, he backed down without a word.
With the room finally quiet, Serena wasted no more words. She ordered Simon Sun, "Clean the wound and scrape off all the necrotic flesh."
Reid Yale’s life could be saved, but his left arm was doomed. It wasn’t that Serena was cruel or vengeful—the City Lord had simply waited too long. If he’d come a day earlier, Reid’s arm might have been spared.
"Master, the anesthesia hasn’t taken effect yet." Simon Sun hesitated, knife in hand.
"Doesn’t matter—go ahead. If he can’t take this pain, he had no business playing the hero to save a beauty." Serena’s voice was cold. The real agony would come when the anesthesia kicked in; this was just a warm-up.
Because of the City Lord’s outburst, Dominic Zhai and Victor Yun shifted their focus from Simon Sun to Serena. Right now, Serena was as cold and mechanical as a machine, almost emotionless. Every move was precise and demanding, like a veteran scholar—she refused to allow even the smallest mistake.
Rigorous, confident, calm, rational—the professional qualities of a doctor all showed in Serena Feng. Dressed in a simple white coat with no extra decorations, she still managed to dazzle, as if glowing. She drew the attention of everyone present, making it impossible for anyone to focus on anything else.
When the Crown Prince, Prince Rowan, Prince Qing, and Prince Jason entered, Victor Yun and the others didn’t even notice. Their attention was completely fixed on Serena Feng as she treated Reid Yale.
The operating table was Serena’s stage, and she was undoubtedly the star performer. Every movement drew everyone deeper into her world.
When Victor Yun and Dominic Zhai finally noticed the Crown Prince’s arrival and started to rise in greeting, the Crown Prince stopped them with a look, signaling everyone not to disturb Serena. Focused on her patient, Serena didn’t even notice the room now held five or six more people.
With Ninth Royal Uncle’s backing, Serena confidently laid out all her modern medical supplies—bottles and jars, neatly arranged. She didn’t even need to look to find exactly the medicine she wanted.
She injected serum, waited for the skin test to show Reid Yale wasn’t allergic to penicillin, then gave him a penicillin shot. Serena’s movements—drawing medicine, injecting—were quick, precise, and ruthless. The princes found it both novel and dazzling.
Prince Rowan had been mesmerized for some time. He remembered, when he was gravely injured before, he’d glimpsed Serena like this—almost like a fairy. Now, he saw her clearly at last: this was the same expression she’d worn when she saved him.
Serena was beautiful in her single-minded dedication to saving lives. Her focused gaze stirred hearts—one almost wished to become the medicine in her hands, the sole object of her attention.
In this moment, Serena was simple and direct. Her world held nothing but medicine and healing—pure as a snow lotus on Mount Tian.
The Serena Feng they knew was clever, calm, forceful, bold, cunning as a fox, and meticulous. Her eyes were clear and bright, but couldn’t hide her intricate mind. Dealing with Serena always required extra caution. But right now...
Serena shed all her masks, revealing her simple, stubborn side without reservation. For her, nothing existed except saving lives—not even past grudges.
Living at the top, they faced schemes and intrigue every day—each wore a hundred masks. To people like them, someone clean and pure was fatally attractive. Ninth Royal Uncle was utterly captivated by this side of Serena Feng...
But Serena Feng didn’t know. The charm she revealed unconsciously drew in not just Ninth Royal Uncle, but others she shouldn’t have enticed. Even if she knew, she wouldn’t care—she had no reason to change herself for anyone else.
After a series of emergency treatments, Reid Yale’s condition improved slightly—but it wasn’t enough. Serena knew some things couldn’t be rushed, but with Reid in such critical shape, he wouldn’t survive the next stage of treatment unless she did more.
No matter what, today she had to save Reid Yale’s life...
