Not Worth a Thing
Inside the room, the laughter of Lily Evans and Wu Caiwei rang out like silver bells, each peal striking Sophie White’s face like a slap, making her cheeks burn.
Sophie White never expected Lily to be so blunt—even before they met, Lily was already humiliating her!
Anger flared up inside Sophie, but she remembered this was the Prince of Qin’s Manor. If she made a scene and Alexander Hayes returned, it would be hard to explain. Everyone here would side with Lily—no one would speak for her.
Suppressing her temper, Sophie said sarcastically, “My name is Sophie White. I’ve been with Alex in the army since I was ten, personally taught by him. Our relationship isn’t something some random nobody can compare to. Didn’t Alex ever mention me to you? Oh, he treats me like family—he tells me everything. You’re his wife, but you two still seem so distant. I can’t believe Alex kept my existence from you.”
After speaking, Sophie felt smug. Now Lily knew Alex had kept a woman hidden in the army—surely she’d explode!
Inside, Wu Caiwei rolled her eyes, thinking, Peony was right—Sophie really is shameless!
But Lily wasn’t angry at all. While soothing Charles in her arms, she replied breezily, “Oh, so you’re from Alex’s border army. That makes sense. Miss White, you must know Alex’s Hayes Army numbers in the tens of thousands, all trained by him. There are so many people under his command—unless someone’s truly important, he wouldn’t bother mentioning them to me. No wonder I’ve never heard of you.”
Lily’s words equated Sophie with the unremarkable soldiers, leaving Sophie speechless. She fell right into Lily’s trap and quickly protested, “What do you know? My relationship with Alex is nothing like that of ordinary soldiers!”
Lily chuckled, “I’ve been married to Alex for years and never heard him mention you, nor seen anything special about your relationship. Didn’t you claim to be his sister? If you two were that close, Alex would have told us long ago. Where’s Xiao Yun?”
As soon as Lily finished, Xiao Yun appeared like a shadow, standing beside Luoluo and blocking Sophie’s way. “Princess Consort, Xiao Yun reporting!”
Lily asked, “Xiao Yun has been with Alex for years. Xiao Yun, have you ever heard of Alex having a sister named Sophie White?”
Xiao Yun shook his head like a rattle drum. “No, I’ve always followed Alex and never heard him mention any sister called Sophie White. Not once. I know Alex’s temperament well—if it’s someone insignificant, he wouldn’t bother mentioning them.”
Lily grinned, “Hear that, Miss White? No one close to Alex has ever heard of you. Are you sure you’re not mistaken, calling him your brother out of nowhere?”
Xiao Yun nodded vigorously. “Exactly! There are plenty of women in the world who want to get close to our Prince, but he doesn’t care about any of them. Those women are just delusional, thinking they’re special to him, but in reality—they’re nothing!”
