Chapter 746: The Battle Ends

It’s common knowledge that the Rune Shield is every mage’s last-resort defense—the fastest spell to cast. But once the Rune Shield is broken, there’s no way to conjure it again for a while.

Without the Rune Shield, it’s like giving up your strongest defense. You’re basically exposing yourself to the deadliest dangers.

After another surge attack, the Doom Guard began summoning a meteor shower again. Countless meteors rained down, forcing everyone to scramble and dodge in chaos.

Reina gritted her teeth, chanting in dragon tongue, preparing a powerful spell to interrupt the Doom Guard’s casting. But unexpectedly, the Doom Guard interrupted his own channeling. A rune lit up on his twin-headed greatspear, and in an instant, countless runes appeared above Reina’s head.

All the runes then merged into a new rune, ignoring Reina’s defensive spells and instantly imprinting itself on her forehead.

Immediately, Reina screamed and fell from the sky. Leon quickly cast Featherfall on her, but the elemental energy scattered as soon as it touched her body.

Anderson also tried several spells to slow Reina’s fall, but the result was the same—any magic that touched her instantly collapsed.

“Anti-Magic Rune! Damn it, how could the Doom Guard have something like this?”

Anderson shouted in terror.

The Anti-Magic Rune severs all connection between its target and external magical energy! Any mage struck by it instantly becomes a cripple, unable to sense the flow of magic at all!

Even the mana within their body can't extend past their skin—this is an utterly terrifying rune, known as the Mage's Nightmare.

Even though the Anti-Magic Rune’s effect varies depending on the caster and the target’s strength, it’s enough to make any mage shudder in fear.

If a Title Archmage wields this rune against a mage apprentice, the apprentice could be cut off from magic for three whole years!

Even against an equal opponent, a hit from the Anti-Magic Rune means at least several seconds—maybe more than ten—of total magical silence.

A few seconds, maybe more than ten, unable to cast spells or even sense mana—for a mage, what does that mean?

Death.

Honestly, that’s enough time for a mage to die a dozen times over!

Leon’s face turned pale. He hadn’t expected the Doom Guard to possess such a terrifying rune. Not even the strongest royal Doom Guard should have access to something like this!
