Chapter 745: Get Out of the Way, Fast!
Leon’s expression was grim as he opened the Death Tome. A surge of mana flooded into the Elemental Chapter, and shards of frost appeared out of thin air in midair. The ice and snow spun rapidly, instantly forming a swirling vortex over ten meters wide. From within the vortex, a colossal Frost Elemental Dragon burst forth.
The Frost Elemental Dragon let out a thunderous roar, soared into the sky, and unleashed a blast of icy breath toward the distant Doom Guard. The blue-white breath swept across hundreds of meters, enveloping the area where the Doom Guard stood.
The magma on the ground began to solidify, the air temperature dropped sharply, and the meteor shower raining down from the sky abruptly ceased.
The Doom Guard roared in fury, clearly repulsed by the surrounding chill. Raising its twin-headed spear, a dark green vortex rapidly formed at the tip. In an instant, all the dark green energy condensed into a single sphere.
The sphere, over a meter in diameter, radiated a terrifying power. Leon’s expression shifted, and he immediately commanded the Frost Elemental Dragon to evade.
But in the next moment, the dark green sphere fused with the twin-headed spear as it thrust forward. A beam of dark green energy, over two meters thick, shot out at an unimaginable speed and struck the Frost Elemental Dragon instantly.
In the blink of an eye, the beam pierced straight through the Frost Elemental Dragon’s body, continuing skyward until it vanished from sight.
Immediately, the Frost Elemental Dragon let out a pained scream. Its abdomen had been blasted open, leaving a gaping wound over two meters wide. The flesh in that area was gone, and the wound was coated in a layer of oily, dark green residue. Bubbles continuously formed and burst across the dragon’s injury.
Its body was being relentlessly corroded, with countless streams of frost unable to halt the decay. In just a few seconds, another half-meter of the dragon’s body had been eaten away. At this rate, it would be split in two within a minute…
Countless frost energies condensed in midair, forming vast shards of ice and snow, swirling into a massive Frost Vortex. The Frost Elemental Dragon’s body plummeted from the sky, vanishing into the vortex…
Everyone was stunned by the sight, cold sweat dripping from their foreheads.
One strike!
Just one strike nearly killed a level thirty-eight Frost Elemental Dragon!
It actually forced the Frost Elemental Dragon summoned by the Death Tome to flee back to the Plane of Frost…
Leon’s face paled; no one understood the implications better than him. After the Elemental Chapter fully merged into the Death Tome, any summoned Elemental Dragon was bound by a direct contract with the Death Tome!
This means that before the battle ends, the summoned creature absolutely cannot leave—even if it dies in combat, it will use the power of the Elemental Chapter to be reborn in the Elemental Plane, regaining its full strength in a short time.
And a summoned Elemental Dragon is an elemental being. With the Elemental Chapter as support, there’s no fear of true death. The cost of fleeing mid-battle is extremely severe.
After the Frost Elemental Dragon fled back to the Plane of Frost, its level would permanently drop by ten!
This is the punishment for breaking the contract!
It’s important to know that the Elemental Plane is anything but gentle. Most elemental beings there have the instinct to devour others to evolve. A level-dropped Elemental Dragon would definitely attract many predators…
There’s a high chance it would be devoured by other elementals. Yet, even with such a dire consequence, the Frost Elemental Dragon still chose to escape…
What does that mean?
There’s only one possibility—the Doom Guard’s last strike could have wiped out the Frost Elemental Dragon’s consciousness, soul, and body all at once!
That’s true annihilation—the most dreadful way to die, feared by any sentient being.
Even the power of the Elemental Chapter couldn’t restore its consciousness in the Elemental Plane!
So, the Frost Elemental Dragon actually ran away…
It was scared off…
Leon’s face turned pale. He glanced at the others, who were also pale, and growled, “Everyone, be careful. This thing might be extremely tough—maybe even have some rare abilities that only royal Doom Guards possess…”
The Doom Guard, having struck once, strode toward the group. The ground trembled under its steps as countless dark vapors surged from its body, twisting into grotesque ghostly faces that circled around it.
Leon gripped the Death Tome in his left hand and raised the Doombringer Staff in his right, rapidly chanting a string of incantations.
Suddenly, countless massive icicles, each over a meter long, plummeted from the sky with a shrieking roar, spinning wildly as they hurtled toward the Doom Guard.
Seeing Leon standing tall and taking the initiative, the others gritted their teeth and began casting spells as well.
A barrage of spells slammed into the Doom Guard. Frost gathered in midair, conjuring a massive blizzard—snowflakes and hail poured down like a broken sky.
But the Doom Guard’s eyes, burning with dark green fire, remained icy and indifferent. It strode forward unfazed, the ground beneath its feet melting and quickly turning red-hot. Cracks appeared, and crimson magma erupted from the fissures.
In an instant, the magma formed a dome, trapping the Doom Guard in its center. Frost spells struck the erupting lava, but melted instantly, sending up clouds of steam that surged skyward in a white plume over a hundred meters tall.
Amid the thick steam, the Doom Guard roared, swinging its twin-headed spear. Countless black smoke coalesced into twisted skulls, which hurtled madly toward the group.
Get out of the way!
Leon’s face changed dramatically as he shouted.
Everyone quickly scrambled away. Reina transformed into a Frost Dragon and soared into the sky, while Leon became a Frost Elemental Avatar, casting two Frost Blinks in the frost-saturated air.
The Alchemical Golem unleashed two instant-cast sixth-level spells at the ground, blasting itself backward.
Even Xuban leapt several meters, landing over ten meters away in a second. Only Anderson, gritting his teeth as he manipulated the Wheel of All Magic, reacted the slowest.
He’d barely flown ten meters before the swirling mass of black smoke shaped like twisted skulls grazed him.
In an instant, the black smoke transformed into dozens of twisted skull phantoms, viciously biting at Anderson’s body.
Anderson’s three smoke-formed faces now seemed almost solid—each bite from the skull phantoms took a chunk out, and his connection to the Wheel of All Magic was forcibly severed.
“Damn it, demonic possession! Merlin, if you don’t save me now, I’m dead for sure…”
Anderson screamed in agony as the Wheel of All Magic tumbled to the ground, dozens of tiny demonic skull phantoms gnawing at it. Leon’s face shifted, the Doombringer Staff flashed, and a streak of lightning snaked down from the sky, striking the Wheel of All Magic.
Blinding lightning crackled, and in an instant, the demonic phantoms on the Wheel of All Magic were forcibly scattered, dissipating into black smoke.
Only then was Anderson’s connection to the Wheel of All Magic restored. Anderson wasted no time, instantly transforming into smoke and diving into the Wheel, while the demonic skull phantoms clung to its surface.
Another flash of lightning, and the demonic phantoms finally dispersed.
After four or five seconds, Anderson slowly emerged from the Wheel of All Magic, all three faces looking as if he’d just survived a serious illness.
Damn it, this bastard! I’m taking him down today, no matter what!
Anderson winced—his artifact avatar’s power was already hard to replenish, and in just a few seconds, he’d lost a significant amount. Who knew how long it’d take to recover? Without help, those demonic phantoms might have torn him apart completely…
Leon’s face was grim as he warned, “Everyone be careful! That’s demonic possession—power from the Doom Guard’s bloodline. It can summon demonic energy to surround you, sever your connection to external magic, and prevent spellcasting. If your strength runs out, even your soul could be torn apart…”
Everyone scrambled to dodge, using fire spells to finally burn away the demonic skull phantoms.
At that moment, the Doom Guard, its body flowing with magma, charged to within fifty meters of the group.
The Doom Guard swung its twin-headed spear again, and dark green light flared on the weapon—a thick beam of green energy shot straight toward them.
Everyone was forced to stop casting spells, dodging frantically before the beam could hit.
The beam struck instantly, carving a terrifying thirty-meter gash across the ground, as if explosives were buried beneath the earth.
Countless shards flew out like arrows, striking Leon’s Rune Shield and sending ripples across its surface. The Rune Shield’s defense depends on the number of runes inscribed.
The more runes, the stronger the Rune Shield. Leon’s collection far exceeds most titled archmages, yet even these stones could ripple its surface.
