All the way there, Jason Zhao kept trying to chat with Lynn Chen, but Lynn seemed distracted and absent-minded.
This made Jason Zhao frown slightly, but he didn’t take it to heart.
Once they arrived at White Dragon Mountain, there’d be plenty of chances to get close. Besides, Jason was confident in his own background, looks, and everything else.
Plus, with Liam Li helping out on the side, he didn’t believe Lynn Chen could slip out of his grasp.
The high-speed train slowly came to a stop, and the group got off.
Liam Li’s group had about six people; with Evan Lin, Lynn Chen, and Yolanda Fang, that made nine altogether.
Just as they stepped out of the train station, a middle-aged man in a suit came up to greet them, a faint smile on his lips. "Mr. Li, this way, please."
"Hello? And you are?"
"Manager Zhang sent me here to pick you up," the middle-aged man replied, his face full of flattery. "The vehicle is ready. Since you have a large group, we arranged for a sightseeing bus."
"Looks like that kid Henry Zhang really put in some effort," Liam Li couldn’t help but lift his chin. Simon Li and several of the girls looked at Liam with admiration in their eyes.
Getting this kind of treatment showed that Liam Li’s friend must have serious status at the White Dragon Mountain Hotel.
Everyone followed the middle-aged man onto a sightseeing bus—the open-sided type with railings but no glass windows. It could seat up to twelve.
Yolanda, let’s sit together.
As they boarded, Simon Li rushed over to Yolanda Fang, volunteering himself.
Besides Liam Li, Simon Li, and Jason Zhao, there were three other girls. At school they were considered above average, but compared to campus beauties Yolanda Fang, Lynn Chen, and Sisi Shao, they faded into the background.
“Hey, Simon Li, are you trying to steal Ethan Yi’s girl? Looks like you’re not giving up easily.” joked Lillian Wang, hugging the other two girls and grinning at Simon.
“No wonder our basketball star Simon Li has turned down so many girls—it’s all for Yolanda Fang,” Maggie Ma chimed in.
“Yeah, who wouldn’t fall for Yolanda Fang—she’s gorgeous and has a killer figure,” Cathy Li pouted.
On the train, Cathy Li had sat with Simon Li, trying every trick to get his attention, but Simon ignored her, his eyes always drifting to Yolanda Fang, which made Cathy secretly annoyed.
She liked Simon Li, but he liked Yolanda Fang—who, annoyingly, had just been sitting with that new guy whose name nobody knew.
The new guy’s clothes looked totally dorky, and his sneakers were so beat-up it was obvious he was some poor hillbilly.
Simon Li looked awkward at their teasing—he was popular at school, but when it came to Yolanda Fang, he just couldn’t show off.
Simon glanced nervously at Yolanda Fang, worried she’d turn him down.
Unexpectedly, after glancing at Evan Lin’s indifferent face, Yolanda nodded. “Sure, let’s sit together.”
Simon’s face lit up, and he smugly lifted his chin at Evan Lin before happily sitting down with Yolanda Fang.
Evan Lin smiled slightly—he knew Yolanda was annoyed because he’d refused to sit with her earlier.
“Lynn, hop on,”
Jason Zhao sat with Lynn Chen, Liam Li with Sisi Shao, Simon Li with Yolanda Fang, Lillian Wang with Maggie Ma, and finally only Evan Lin and Cathy Li were left.
Evan Lin took a seat in the back row. Cathy Li, wearing shorts, looked him up and down with open disgust, then ran to the front and took a whole row for herself.
“Cathy, why didn’t you sit with him?” Lillian Wang turned around, smiling at Cathy Li.
Tch, like I’d ever want to sit with someone like that. If you want to, go ahead.' Cathy Li said, annoyed.
Our Cathy would never go for someone like that—he’s short, not much to look at, and probably from some backwater.' Maggie Ma joked, glancing at Evan Lin.
Liam Li turned around and laughed loudly, “He’s not just some country bumpkin. He may not look like much, but he’s deadly in a fight.”
He’s a beast in a fight—honestly, you wouldn’t believe it, but he could take on fifteen or twenty people by himself.
After Liam said that, Sisi Shao rolled her eyes—she knew he was teasing Evan Lin about what happened at Imperial Grand and felt annoyed.
What kind of future does a guy who only knows how to fight have? But if we keep talking, will he come beat us up? He’s scary—maybe he’s violent?' Cathy Li pretended to be scared.
Jason Zhao smiled, “Nah, he wouldn’t hit girls—especially pretty ones.”
Lynn Chen wanted to defend Evan Lin, but remembering his attitude toward her, she stayed quiet. Yolanda Fang just put in her earbuds and ignored everyone.
Evan Lin just relaxed in his seat, stretching lazily.
The bus rolled on toward White Dragon Mountain. The temperature here wasn’t high, and the breeze felt cool and refreshing.
White Dragon Mountain Hotel belongs to the Summer Family of River City—you know them, right? They own half the hotels in River City and are worth billions.' Liam Li explained as the mood quieted.
Sisi Shao nodded eagerly beside Liam Li, “Yeah, I know the Summer Family! I saw on TV they’re planning to go nationwide, but right now they’re just expanding in the province.”
Someone like her loves money, but even more she loves Liam Li’s aristocratic air and the way he talks with such confidence.
“Exactly. The Summer Family is riding high in River City right now. And get this—Jason Zhao’s dad is close with them, a manager at one of their companies.”
At that, Lillian Wang, Maggie Ma, Cathy Li, and Sisi Shao all looked at Jason Zhao with new admiration.
They’d always thought of Jason Zhao as Liam Li’s good friend, and while they guessed he might have a fancy background, they’d never really pictured it.
Now, thanks to Liam Li’s words, they realized Jason Zhao was a real second-generation rich kid.
“Oh, my dad only handles their construction projects. It’s just a few billion here and there—nothing major,” Jason Zhao said modestly, sneaking a glance at Lynn Chen.
But Lynn Chen seemed distracted, looking around as if she hadn’t heard him.
“Billions?” Cathy Li gasped, her eyes catching Evan Lin in the back row—and immediately feeling a surge of disdain.
How could someone like him be allowed to join us? It’s such a disgrace!
