Ugly Duckling and the Yin-Yang Face
May Parker wanted to barge in directly, but Evans Manor now had four sturdy servants guarding the gate. The four men stood firm at the entrance, intimidating May Parker so much that she only dared to shout and curse, not actually force her way inside.
Lily Evans normally couldn't be bothered with May Parker, but today May Parker seemed especially furious for some reason. She cursed for a long while, making Lily's ears ring.
"I'll go take a look," Lily Evans said, getting up to put on her shoes.
"Wife, I'll go out with you," Lucky hurried after her.
As soon as Lily Evans and Lucky appeared at the courtyard gate, May Parker jumped up and pointed at her, shouting, "You big-mouthed gossip, why doesn't the heavens strike you down!"
"May Parker, what nonsense are you stirring up again!?" Lily Evans looked at her, feeling a headache coming on.
"Lily Evans, you promised me you wouldn't tattle to my husband! I just left and you ran right over to snitch, then started gossiping all over the village—you're ruining me! I'm not done with you!" May Parker fumed, stomping her feet.
"Why would I waste my time tattling? May Parker, listen up—your petty drama is so dirty, I wouldn't even bother talking about it! Stop dumping your mess on my head!" Lily Evans was at her wit's end.
"Only you know people at the Vegetarian Bistro! If it wasn't you who snitched, who else could it be? Lily Evans, you had the guts to rat me out but not the guts to admit it!" May Parker thought of her ruined wedding—she should've had a grand procession and a lavish banquet at the Liu family, but thanks to Lily Evans's meddling, it was reduced to a village affair. She wanted to tear Lily Evans apart to vent her anger.
"If I didn't say it, why should I admit it!" Lily Evans snapped, pointing at May Parker's nose. "It's always your family making trouble for me—when have I ever gone after you first? Just because your face is covered in crap doesn't mean the whole world stinks! Not everyone is as scheming as your lot! I'm telling you loud and clear, this has nothing to do with me, so stop dragging me into it!"
May Parker screamed in rage, "So you admit it, Lily Evans! You did it just to get back at me because my family offended you, right? How petty can you be—to take revenge on my wedding! If you won't let me live in peace, I won't let you either!"
Lily Evans was speechless at May Parker's twisted logic. She'd already said it wasn't her, so how could May Parker twist things around and still blame her for everything?
Lucky saw Lily Evans getting angry and took her hand, saying, "Wife, let's ignore her. She's ugly and unreasonable."
May Parker stiffened her neck and glared at Lucky. She'd always prided herself on her beauty, but now Lucky had called her ugly right to her face, making her so mad her nose nearly twisted out of shape. "Who are you calling ugly!"
"I'm calling you ugly, so what? You really are ugly! Freak! Honestly, just looking at you hurts my eyes!" Lucky shot her a glare, then took Lily Evans by the hand and started walking home.
May Parker was so furious she nearly exploded. She snatched up a stone from the ground and hurled it at the back of Lily Evans's head, shouting, "I'll kill you, you wretch!"
But before the stone could hit Lily Evans, Lucky reacted swiftly—he kicked the stone back, and it landed with a thud right on May Parker's eye socket.
"Ah!" May Parker clutched her eye, so shocked she nearly fainted.
Helen Parker anxiously pried May Parker's hand away to check. The skin wasn't broken, but half her eye was bruised black and blue—a huge panda eye!
"Freak! Yin-yang face!" Lucky snorted proudly.
"My face, what happened to my face!" May Parker felt a sharp pain in her eye socket. She frantically pulled out a small mirror, and when she saw her reflection, she burst into tears. Her wedding was in seven days, and this panda eye wouldn't heal in time—the bruise was huge and dark, and no amount of powder could cover it. She'd have to get married with this yin-yang face!
